It should, given the wider tyres, adjustable between softer and stiffer MRC, and who knows what else. It's also lighter and has bigger brakes than a 599 dreams of. It should be one of the fastest cars around the Burger in history.
err, ZR1 is heavier than Z06 since it's more of a GT car like Ferrari 599/612..
-> How come there will be a RWD Impala? GM said themselves the there will be no RWD Impala?
Indy Camaro 2008General Motors, Chevrolet Division and the Central Indiana Camaro Club would like to announce an exciting new development in the Camaro world. We have now been authorized to release information that the new production Camaros will be in attendance and unveiled at the Indy 08, Back at the Brickyard Event in September. The car will be unveiled at the event and many different models/engine combos will be available for the general public to review. Expect to see many different color combinations as well.
The 'Back at the Brickyard' Event will be happening in Indianapolis Indiana from September 19-21, 2008 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Hundreds of Camaros, Firebirds, and Pace Car owners will be in attendance to celebrate the unveiling and enjoy this historic event. GM Dignitaries will be in attendance as well to discuss the design, engineering, marketing, and accessories for this new model of Camaro. Vendors will also be on hand displaying their products.
AutoblogWe've contacted GM to inquire about the validity of this story, and they tell us that the production Camaro will not debut at this event. It will actually debut BEFORE then at a place TBD. Hmmm... what event takes place before September that would be an appropriate place to debut an iconic muscle car? If you'd all like to meet us at the Coney Island restaurant on Woodward Ave. the Thursday before the Dream Cruise, we'll buy you a coney.
Holden, the company that last year sold more V8s than any other time in its 60-year history, will sell a petrol-electric Commodore "within two years" - but it wants the Federal Government to give hybrid cars a tax break.
In a surprise announcement today, General Motors's Asia-Pacific boss Nick Reilly, in Australia for an annual review, said the company would introduce hybrids in the next couple of years.
"Our strength in hybrids tends to be in the larger vehicles so that's where you'll see them first," he said.
" [A hybrid Commodore] could be one of the first hybrids that you will see. I would put
a time frame on that of probably a couple of years."
However, he said, not all car buyers were prepared to pay a premium to drive an eco-friendly car. Hybrid vehicles typically cost about 20 to 30 per cent more than a car with a regular petrol engine.
"Hybrids don't make sense unless you have incentives," he said. "Part of our submission to the Federal Government review into the automotive industry is that there should be some benefit to the consumer."
He said the government should consider tax reductions for so-called "green cars". For the past 30 years, the import tariff on four-wheel-drives - among the thirstiest vehicles on our roads - have attracted a lower tariff than more fuel-efficient passenger vehicles. Today, for example, most 4WDs attract a 5 per cent tariff and most cars attract a 10 per cent tariff.
Despite the push for a more economical Commodore, whose sales are at a 14-year low, Holden said it was also still committed to building V8 performance cars.
"We're going to stay very strong [in V8s]," Reilly said. "You don't wipe out a love and heritage that [Australians] have for those vehicles.
"Although large car [sales] have shrunk by 40 per cent we will still produce high performance cars because it's part of a our heritage and it's what we know. A lot of people in Australia still enjoy them, and we're not reducing our efforts in that area."
Hybrid Commodore Confirmed
I believe that same article discussed HSV going to diesel power, right? There is a lot of talk of them using it in North America too, especially with that new 4.5L unit coming soon.
Were evaluating our options [regarding greener cars], says HSV managing director Scott Grant of moves by HSV to reduce its environmental footprint. Weve got to consider changes in the market conditions and certainly diesel is becoming an important part of our future.
HSV still believes it is largely immune to a strong consumer backlash against larger, thirstier cars, but admits the company must evolve, especially for the all-important younger generation, which is generally more environmentally conscious than those over 30.
Using around 15 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres travelled 50 per cent more than an average family car the performance-oriented, Holden-based HSV V8 range includes some of the thirstier cars on the market.
Grant says HSV is conducting feasibility studies on a range of alternative engines.
Were still in the feasibility stage so were nowhere near confirming what direction well go [diesel, hybrid, etc], says Grant, while confirming that the added maturity of diesel engines may ultimately make them more appealing to HSV.
Diesel engines typically have much more torque (pulling power) than petrol engines.
Were looking at what diesel propositions might be available within the GM network and outside the GM network, says Grant. Were looking at cost and the business case that would need to go with it and also the right timing to introduce that change.
General Motors recently unveiled a turbo-diesel V8. As well as some 230kW of power (well shy of the 300-plus kilowatts from current HSVs) the diesel V8 musters 700Nm of torque, about one-third more than the current V8 petrol engines.
Grant also says HSV is evaluating hybrid engines, although he thinks the added maturity of diesel technology may ultimately make it a more logical choice.
The only problem is, at least here, diesel is super expensive compared to petrol. Last night Petrol was $1.40 a litre, and diesel was $1.79. By the time this comes out diesel wil be well over $2.00, and if it doesn't offer a SIGNIFICANTLY reduced fuel comsumption no one is going to want to pay $130+ for a tank of fuel.
Does/Can the diesel engine has cylinder deactivation?
Will they sell it as a Chevrolet too?
YSSMAN is getting one?
I occasionally forget that we're exporting these suckers all over the world. Its supposed to be GM's premium coupe everywhere it goes, which makes me wonder:
Will they sell it as a Chevrolet too?
Because I doubt they'd ditch the GIANT gold badge on the face of the car...
