Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races: Alternative Medicine

A new set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races is now in place for the next seven days, bringing another race for tuners and a few of the alternative layout circuits in the game.

Race A is a “No DR/SR” event again, meaning there’s no gain or loss of Driver or Sportsmanship Rating points — regardless of how well or badly you (or others) drive. This effectively turns the race into a scheduled, but region-limited, public lobby race, more for fun than anything else.

This week the race visits the East Course at the Suzuka Circuit. That encompasses the main straight and the esses section, before switching back onto the main straight again for a very short lap indeed.

You’ll be testing out the deepest reaches of your garage and your tuning skills for the race, which has some interesting vehicle limitations. Cars must be road cars, and with no more than 246hp, weighing no less than 1,100kg. In addition, they must be front-engined and rear-wheel drive.

That will probably result in a lot of extreme tuning to bring overpowered cars down to meet the regulations, as their high-performance credentials — stiffer chassis, wider tires — means a huge PP advantage over vehicles tuned up to meet the limits; expect plenty of Vipers and Tuscans (perhaps even engine-swapped Tuscans).

You’ll also need to be aware of the grid start with false-start check, which will penalize you with a loss of engine power if you jump the final light.

Race B is much simpler. It’s an eight-lap race of the Short Course at Autopolis International, which chops out the final sector with a right-hand 180-degree corner in place of the uphill left-handed hairpin.

The race permits any Gr.4 car on Racing Hard tires, and that will almost certainly mean Alfa Romeo 155 or bust — as the only AWD car in the class with a low enough weight not to handle like a boat through the numerous off-camber corners you’ll find at Autopolis.

Finally Race C visits the Gardens circuit at Dragon Trail, one of the rare post-launch (of Gran Turismo Sport, in this case) alternate layouts to not use a single yard of the original circuit’s asphalt.

You’ll need a Gr.3 car of any kind for this 13-lap race, but there are some additional factors to consider that will require some planning and strategy.

Firstly, both Racing Hard and Racing Medium tires are available and mandatory. You must complete a lap on a single set of each during the race (pitting before you start lap one, or on the final lap before the checkered flag, does not count) or you’ll receive a one-minute time penalty after the race.

With a 10x tire wear rate, so each lap generates ten laps’ worth of wear, you’re going to need to pit at some point, but you’ll need a strategy that makes the most of the grippier Medium option.

Additionally the fuel consumption is set to a 5x multiplier this week, so your car will drain the tank five times faster than normal. That will affect your choice of car and will likely require some fuel management or a quick top-up in the pits depending on what you pick.

In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub.

With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday thus far, the next new set should arrive on Monday November 7.
