Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races: The Magic Number

The latest set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races is now available, bringing with it the chance to sample some of the new content added in the most recent v1.31 update.

That starts in Race A, which puts you into a one-make race for the new Mazda 3 hatchback. This all-wheel drive warm hatchback uses Mazda’s new SkyActiv-X engine which combines the spark and compression ignition technologies of gasoline and diesel engines into one to produce lower emissions, but it also has 177hp so it’s hardly sluggish.

You’ll be racing the car over six laps of the compact Tsukuba Circuit, with the standard Comfort Soft tires equipped, and once again the race is a “no DR/SR” event, so you’ll neither gain nor lose Driver or Sportsmanship Rating points during the race.

Races B and C are more standard fare, although Race B takes in one of the two new Nurburgring layouts added in v1.31.

That’s the short “Sprint” circuit, which is a variant of the GP course but with a cut-through between turns four and nine to skip out the hairpin and left-right combinations before and after.

It’s a six-lap sprint race for the Gr.4 cars — broadly equivalent to GT4, with pared-back, road car-based platforms — equipped with Racing Hard tires. At the moment it looks like all-wheel drive cars have an advantage, despite the recent Balance of Performance shift, but you have free choice of any Gr.4 category car.

This week’s Race C is a more simple affair than many recent events, with no particular regulations to be concerned about other than the car and tire selection.

Once again it’s a Gr.3 race, consisting of a 12-lap run around the longer version of the Watkins Glen circuit. You’ll need to fit Racing Hard tires to your choice of vehicle, but other than that it’s a pretty straightforward race.

The 6x tire wear multiplier — so your tires wear six times faster than the standard rate — won’t have a dramatic impact, and you should just be able to go all-out until the finish with no need to pit.

In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub.

With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday April 10.
