Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races: Green Arrow

The latest set of Gran Turismo 7’s Daily Races is now available, retaining a touch of the eclectic that we saw with last week’s World Finals-inspired selection.

While Race B and Race C return to something resembling their usual format, Race A this week is likely to raise a few eyebrows.

The race once again sees Driver Rating updates turned off, but Sportsmanship Rating updates will occur as normal — and you might want to keep an eye on that to make sure it doesn’t fall too far.

That’s because you’ll be heading to the Nurburgring Nordschleife for a one-lap battle, and while that’d ordinarily be enough to make your SR pucker slightly there’s a novel twist this week.

The event features a specific list of road cars, with specific tunes applied for the race. That means that you’ll only be able to borrow the cars for the race — in standard color schemes too — although that will keep the mileage off your own garage and save you some credits.

As with last week’s Race C, your vehicle selection is: BMW M3 ’07, Ferrari F40 ’92, Honda NSX Type R ’92, Jaguar XJ220 ’92, Lamborghini Diablo GT ’00, Lexus LFA ’10, Mazda RX-7 Spirit R ’02, Mercedes SLR McLaren ’09, Porsche 911 GT3 ’09, and Toyota Supra RZ ’97. This is, with the two American entries curiously absent, the same list as the first Nations Cup race at the World Finals.

There’s more of a flavor of the familiar in Race B, which sees you visiting the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit in your choice of Gr.4 car on Racing Hard tires.

You can select any vehicle from the category for this five-lap sprint, and note that you’ll be able to adjust Brake Balance — both before the race and on the fly — which may have an effect on the pecking order.

Race C too is another familiar one, consisting of a ten-lap race at the Sardegna Road Track location’s A layout. This is the long, squared-off version of the track that sees you go deep into the island’s countryside, with some awkward, sharp corners.

It’s a race for Gr.3 machinery, with a couple of twists. Firstly there’s mandatory tires again, with drivers being required to use both the Racing Medium and Racing Soft tires for at least one tour during the race. That means you can’t pit on lap ten or, if you’re far enough back, before starting lap one. Failing to use both grades will earn you a one-minute penalty applied to your race time.

Tire wear is also a factor this week, with a 6x multiplier resulting in six times faster wear than normal. You’ll need to run the quicker Soft tire for as long as possible then without going so far that it becomes slower than a new Medium.

Finally, you’ll have access to partial suspension tuning as well as Brake Balance settings. You can tweak the anti-roll bar, dampers (both compression and expansion sides), and spring natural frequency — and it may be worth trying settings to allow you to eke out another lap from the Softs rather than for a touch more pace.

In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub.

With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday December 18.
