Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races: Do I Amuse You?

A new selection of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races awaits this week, bringing some high-speed action across all three events — as we await the inevitable Kangoo week.

It’s the usual format of a one-make road car event in Race A, and racing categories in the other two slots, though there’s a small change in that regard too.

You’ll be taking charge of a Japanese tuner legend first, as Race A stars the Amuse S2000 GT1 Turbo. There’s an interesting background to this car, as Polyphony Digital collaborated with Hideki Tanabe of Power House Amuse to create the GT1 body kit — which then made its debut in Gran Turismo 4 before it was revealed in the physical world at the 2005 Tokyo Auto Salon.

As the name hints, this is the later, turbocharged version of the car which featured a bored-out, 2.3-liter version of the original F20C straight four, mated to a HKS GT3240 turbo, and producing over 600hp.

You’ll be racing this insanity with 11 other people kitted out in the same manner for seven laps of Tsukuba, with the standard Sports Medium tires required. As usual, Driver Rating (DR) updates are turned off for this event, though Sportsmanship Rating (SR) updates remain active.

It’s the Gr.3 cars up in Race B this week, which takes you to the Watkins Glen Long Course for a five-lap sprint event. You can select from any of the recently hobbled Gr.3 cars for this challenge — which is looking a little M6-heavy this week judging by the leaderboards — with Racing Medium tires the only requirement.

The pace ticks up in Race C, which visits Autodrome Lago Maggiore’s Full Course for a 12-lap tactical battle in the Gr.2 cars. It’s not quite that simple, however, as you can only pick from three specific models.

That said, it’s the only three cars most would pick anyway, as the selection comprises the 2016-model Super GT GT500 cars: the Honda NSX Concept-GT, Lexus RC F GT500, and Nissan GT-R Nismo GT500. While the leaderboards are relatively mixed, the NSX appears the dominant choice in the race itself — as usual in events with tire wear.

The tire wear multiplier itself isn’t that steep, at just 2x, but it does make it a challenge with the mandatory tires and the fact that one of the two required grades is the Racing Soft. You’re going to need to keep a close eye on lap times then, in order that you’re taking the most you can out of the Softs without running them so far that they’re slower than new Mediums.

With there being two required tire grades you will need to come in to switch — either Medium to Soft, or Soft to Medium — or you’ll end up with a one-minute penalty added to your race time. Do watch out for the pit lane entry and exit too, as you’ll pick up a three-second penalty if you cross the lines on your way in or out, which you’ll need to serve on-track in the penalty zone.

Daily Races are the main ranked multiplayer events in GT7. Your Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) are determined by your performances, updating after each race, and these are used to set your ranking and league for the game’s flagship esports series each season.

In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.

With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, April 14.
