There’s another week without road cars in the Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races this week, with three new events for track machinery across the motorsport spectrum.
We’ve got the karts coming back in for Race A this week, as the fictional Kyoto Driving Park location hosts a bottom-rung event for these back-to-basics cars. Unsurprisingly, given the lengthy nature of most layouts here, it’s the oval-ish Miyabi course that stages the race.
The race is a pretty basic affair, comprising eight laps of Miyabi in the Gran Turismo Kart 125 Shifter, on the standard Sports Soft tires. However there is a False Start Check function in effect, so you’ll need to hold the kart on the brakes during the start sequence as any movement before the lights go out will earn you a brief power penalty and put you at high risk of being shunted from behind.
Once again, there’s no Driver Rating (DR) updates in this race. Sportsmanship Rating (SR) updates are turned on though, and given the housefly handling of these vehicles it can be pretty easy to contact other drivers or head in a direction other than the one you intend, so you’ll be in danger of losing a lot of it — and should it fall too far, it can also drag your DR down too despite the lack of DR updates.
Race B is more standard fare, as the Gr.3 cars take a visit to Autodrome Lago Maggiore. There’s a little twist here in that it’s the reverse layout version of the full course this week — making the slow first complex into the slow final complex — which should create some intrigue.
As usual you can select any Gr.3 vehicle you like, so long as it has Racing Medium tires fitted, and the leaderboard is still dominated by BMW M6s. With the lack of tire wear and fuel consumption multipliers, what’s good in qualifying practice is good for the four-lap race, so expect a lot of them in any given race.
That just leaves the Gr.4 cars for the final race, which is also a pretty straightforward affair. You can select any of the cars from this class, which recently had a big shake-up in the Balance of Performance but not enough to prevent one car from dominating as usual. 96% of the Top 100 is now in the Genesis G70.
There’s no tactical intrigue here either, with it being an all-out sprint event over 12 laps of the Red Bull Ring circuit on Racing Hard tires. You don’t need to stop for new tires or fuel as the multipliers for consumption are at the default level, and there’s no mandatory stop either. It’s just lights-to-flag to find out who’s got the quickest G70.
Daily Races are the main ranked multiplayer events in GT7. Your Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) are determined by your performances, updating after each race, and these are used to set your ranking and league for the game’s flagship esports series each season.
In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.
