A fresh set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races is available from today, covering the next week with three events that include a return of pre-tuned vehicles in a madcap sprint event.
Naturally that pops up in Race A, where we’ll be given the choice of ten different pre-made liveries on the Autobianchi A112 Abarth ’85 in a rather racy state of tune, in the same manner as an event that ran back in March. There’s still not a purple option though, so boo.
Just as they were back then, the little A112s — which were basically pared-down, three-door hatchback FIAT 128s — have had a lot of work done, with standard power boosted from 71hp to 194hp. There’s an extra 100kg or so of weight on board, but the power-to-weight ratio has still more than doubled.
To rein that in a bit, the cars have some sticky Racing Hard tires as well as some other tuning to allow them to stretch their new legs a little more. However that does mean you cannot use your own garage car for the race.
That’s a five-lap sprint around Deep Forest, and beware of the False Start Check on the grid start which will give you a torque-drop penalty for a brief period should you jump the lights. Also note that, as usual, there’s no Driver Rating (DR) updates in this race, but Sportsmanship Rating (SR) updates remain active.
Race B is occupied by the Gr.3 cars this week, for another five-lap affair but at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya course. For this week we’ve got the “No Chicane” variant of the GP circuit, which misses out the final RACC chicane before the last right-hander onto the straight.
It’s an all-comers event this week, so you can select any of the cars from the Gr.3 class that you like. You’ll need to ensure that your vehicle is on Racing Soft tires — it’s flat-out this week — but if you opt to rent a vehicle then these will be fitted automatically. There’s no clear favorite on the leaderboard this week, though a few are finding success with the Porsche 911 RSR.
This week’s Race C is also a sprint event, with no notable tire wear and no mandatory pit stop for the Gr.4 cars in this ten-lapper at the Watkins Glen Long Course.
Really the only variable here is your choice of car, and there currently seems to be no single vehicle emerging as the weapon of choice on the Racing Hard tires. All-wheel drive is looking popular, but mid-engined cars are doing fine leaderboard times too — and the Honda NSX which merges both characteristics is well represented.
Daily Races are the main ranked multiplayer events in GT7. Your Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) are determined by your performances, updating after each race, and these are used to set your ranking and league for the game’s flagship esports series each season.
In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.
With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, June 23.
