The latest Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races are now available, with three new races to take on over the next seven days, and a second successive week focusing on racing cars.
You’ll start off in Daily Race A this week with a car unique to Gran Turismo, and derived from the vehicle created for GT5 by Formula 1 design legend Adrian Newey. That was, of course, the Red Bull X2010 — originally the X1 before that was apparently deemed to encroach on BMW’s territory — which has been updated in subsequent games.
However, you won’t be in the current iteration — the X2019 Competition, made for GT Sport and esports events — but the earlier X2014 from GT6 and indeed its “Junior” variant at that. This is probably our favorite of the X range, without the crazy power and aerodynamic attributes of its siblings and more manageable performance as a result.
Daytona hosts the X2014 Juniors for a four-lap race of the Road Course, with Racing Hard tires required for the event. It’s a pretty straightforward sprint race and, for the third week in a row, you’ll be able to earn Driver Rating (DR) for the race with both DR and SR (Sportsmanship Rating) updates turned on.
As is most commonly seen, it’s Gr.3 and Gr.4 races in the other two events, but this week it’s the Gr.3s up in the Race B sprint.
You can use any Gr.3 car for this race, which is another four-lap affair but at the fictional Autodrome Lago Maggiore Full circuit. While the class is generally pretty well-balanced, the top qualifiers seem to be split between the 2018 Nissan GT-R and the M6 Sprint Model, which you might want to bear in mind for your own selection.
Whichever car you pick will need to be equipped with Racing Medium tires for the race, but otherwise there’s no special considerations.
However there’s a couple in Race C which could put a bit of a dampener on things if you don’t pay close attention.
The race itself is quite straightforwards: it’s a ten-lap run around the Autopolis International Racing Course in a Gr.4 car, with Racing Hard tires required.
Given the nature of that class, you’ll be unsurprised to learn that the leaderboards are dominated by all-wheel drive cars, and with no enhanced tire wear multipliers they won’t be at a disadvantage in the race either.
That’s going to be helped along by the Grid Start with False Start Check. If you’re not in an AWD car, you’ll be going backwards right from the start. Beware moving to early too; you’ll have control of your car from the moment the final light goes on, and if you jump the start you’ll get a torque-cut penalty that lasts as long after the start as the amount by which you jumped it.
While tire wear isn’t an issue, you still need to make a pit stop during the race. All you need to do is head down the pit lane — any time from the end of lap one until the start of lap ten — to satisfy the requirement, with neither tire change nor additional fuel necessary. Not stopping adds a minute to your time after the race.
Take great care, particularly on entry to Autopolis’s nasty pit lane, not to cross the pit entry/exit lines on your way in and out as you’ll land a three-second, on-track penalty for each offence.
Daily Races are the main ranked multiplayer events in GT7. Your Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) are determined by your performances, updating after each race, and these are used to set your ranking and league for the game’s flagship esports series each season.
In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.
With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, July 21.
