A refreshed set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races have arrived this Monday morning, bringing three new events for players to tackle over the next week and featuring the return of a fun event from earlier this year.
It’s Race A where we see this, with a one-make race for pre-tuned Plymouth Superbirds returning just over six months on from its first appearance. The race is, as far as we can spot, identical to that original one.
This means pre-tuned Superbirds, sporting NASCAR-inspired liveries (that #34 is going to be a common choice) over a seven-lap race of the Daytona Tri-Oval. Slipstream will be key here, as will not hitting the front too soon.
As with the last appearance, both Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) are turned off so this is effectively an unranked event. Penalties are still turned on though and severe, as we discovered from getting four seconds from someone else’s crash…
The Race B sprint this week features the Gr.3 cars, and the famous Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. As usual, you can pick any car from this generally well-balanced class — the leaderboard is relatively mixed beyond the 50% of the top 100 being GT-Rs — for a competitive race.
It’s a straightforward four-lap sprint on Racing Hard tires, and with no consideration of pitting or strategy you just need to bang out four qualifying laps while in traffic. While ultimately irrelevant in terms of layout, the race does use the 24hr course with the start line on the run down to Eau Rouge. It’ll mean lap one is the fastest lap of the race though.
That puts the Gr.4 cars into the longer slot in Race C, and it’s got a pretty high lap count this week — as well as the mildest possible strategy angle.
You’ll be racing 15 laps of the Short Course at Watkins Glen, which skips out the entire Boot section of the track as it cuts from the top of the Chute at the exit of turn five through to turn nine. Any Gr.4 car is eligible for the race, with standard Racing Hard tires the only option available, although the leaderboard is currently dominated by AWD cars, mid-engined cars, and the NSX which is both.
The strategy aspect comes from a mandatory pit stop. You can take this at any time between the end of lap one and the start of lap 15, and you’re not required to take fuel or new tires in the process; tire wear is not enough to be meaningful here either. Just come in from the live track, stop, and go back out racing.
Failing to take your stop will earn you a one-minute penalty added to your race time, while crossing the solid lines at pit lane entry and exit — which is really easy to do here — also gives you a three second penalty for each offense to be served on the circuit at the penalty zones.
Daily Races are the main ranked multiplayer events in Gran Turismo 7. Your Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) are determined by your performances, updating at the end of each race, and these are used to set your ranking and league for the game’s flagship esports series each season.
In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.
With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, October 13.
