A new set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races is available from this morning, with three new events for players to enjoy over the coming week.
It’s something of a return to the regular format after a few experimental weeks, as we see a one-make (well, technically not) road car race and events for Gr.4 and Gr.3 cars in the three slots. However one recent change remains in place as Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) are affected in all three events for the third successive week.
Race A is just about as normal as they come in the Gran Turismo world, as you’ll be heading to the Tsukuba Circuit in the road car event. You’ve got a choice of two vehicles, or rather one with different branding and front/rear styling, as the 2015 models of the Subaru BRZ S and Toyota 86 GT are available for you.
Whichever you pick, they’ll need to be on standard, Sports Hard tires, and without permanent changes (engine swaps, widebody) or nitrous for the event. You can, of course, just borrow a car, although they’re hardly bank-breaking to buy a new one and at least you can use any Style you wish on your own vehicle.
Either way, it’s an eight-lap race, which is pretty lengthy for a Race A but still over and done with in ten minutes. Don’t forget that DR and SR changes are both turned on for this event too.
Your race car events this week are the “right” way round, with the slower Gr.4 cars in the shorter, Race B sprint, and the Gr.3 cars in the longer Race C with its tactical elements.
Dragon Trail Seaside hosts the Gr.4 cars for Race B — a race combination we’ve been seeing as far back as the GT Sport Beta — over a five-lap race. As ever, all of the Gr.4 cars are available to select (and you can borrow one if you don’t want to add miles to your own) for the event, but only a couple of them are competitive due to the weird mix of drivetrains and the category’s Balance of Performance.
This week, with the Racing Hard tires required, it looks like it’s mid-engined or all-wheel drive — or both — that heads up the qualifying leaderboard, and with no tactical elements what’s good for a hot lap will be good for the race too. There’s quite a few Citroen GT by Citroens on there, but the AWD Atenza and Genesis G70 are up at the sharp end too.
Race C heads to the Daytona Road Course this week for a ten-lap race in the Gr.3 cars with the mildest of tactical elements involved, courtesy of a mandatory pit stop.
You can select any of the Gr.3 cars that you want, but you can probably guess from previous trips to this circuit in this class that it’s the Viper or you’re not winning. Maybe the Ford GT GTE at a push, but a quick glance at the leaderboards right now shows the top 50 almost exclusively in the Viper.
Racing Medium tires are required for this race, but even with the steep 6x tire wear multiplier — wearing your tires at six times the usual rate — you won’t need to swap for a fresh set in the pits. They won’t be great at the end of ten laps, but you probably won’t gain enough for running two fresh sets to offset the time lost to make the swap.
Failing to take the stop, which you can do any time between the end of the first lap — so if you’re low down the field don’t be tempted to dive in before the start — and the start of the final one will land you with a one-minute post-race penalty. Watch out for the really badly marked pit lane entry too, as crossing the (invisible) lines gives you a three-second penalty to be served on-track.
Daily Races are the main ranked multiplayer events in Gran Turismo 7. Your Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) are determined by your performances, updating at the end of each race, and these are used to set your ranking and league for the game’s flagship esports series each season.
In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.
With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, November 3.
