As the much-anticipated Gran Turismo 7 Spec III update comes ever closer, this week’s Daily Races serve as a reminder of some of the lesser-used content that’s already in the game.
The continued ebb and flow of the regulations means that it’s a fully ranked week this time round, with Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) updates switched on for all three races. That means plenty of chances to bump up your stats ahead of the promised, but still unknown, improvements to Sport Mode that Spec III will bring.
It is a more regular line-up of combinations though, beginning with a one-make race for road cars in Race A. And what a road car it is, with the Lexus LFA taking the starring role.
This rare machine took people by surprise when it surfaced in the late 00s, with Lexus more known for its executive sedans at the time. A 550hp, V10 supercar-killer honed on the Nurburgring was not exactly in its repetoire, and a $375k Japanese car of any kind wasn’t what the market was expecting. Even at just 500 planned units it wasn’t a big seller, and there’s still the occasional story of an example that was never registered being sold as new.
That’s not a consideration for us though, as there’s as many LFAs as you could ever want available to you, and in every original color too (yay, there’s a purple). If you want to borrow one for this seven-lap race of Watkins Glen’s Short Course, you can pick any of them. All you need is slightly stickier Sports Soft tires for your car (fitted to rental cars automatically) and you’re free to hit up this sprint event.
All things considered, this week’s Race B is something of a monster. It’s still the regular sprint-type event, using the slower, GT4-like Gr.4 cars, but it takes place over a more significant distance than usual. That’s because it’s a five-lap race of the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps which will be a solid 15 minutes of anyone’s time in these cars.
Generally, you’ll find that Gr.4 sees one particular car, or at least a common layout, rising to the top pretty quickly and it looks like the Citroen GT by Citroen is once again that vehicle. You do have free choice though, and whatever you pick it’ll need Racing Medium tires fitted for the event.
There’s a very uncommon track up in Race C this week, so you might want to do a little bit of offline (or practice) refamiliarization before going live with the real thing. That’s the B course at Circuit de Sainte-Croix.
This fictional circuit is set around the very real Lac de Sainte-Croix, a reservoir in the south-east of France, with roads around (and across) the Lake intended to mimic classic European road racing of the kind seen in the 1920s and 1930s around Le Mans, Reims, the original Spa, and the like.
You’ll need a Gr.3 car for this event, and there’s a few competitive options here but don’t be surprised to see a lot of BMW M6 GT3s in any given race. Whatever you pick, the car will need to be fitted with Racing Soft tires only.
That’s an unusual tire choice, and given that it’s a nine-lap race around this 4.4-mile circuit you’re going to face some pretty tired tires. And we haven’t even mentioned the 3x tire wear multiplier, so they’re going to scrub three times faster than normal.
There is a mandatory pit stop in the race, so you’ll need to head into the pits at least once between the end of lap one and the start of lap nine or you’ll end the race with a one-minute penalty added to your time. You don’t need to change tires or take on fuel, but we’re going to suggest you do the former.
While neither the pit entry nor exit are that awkward, make sure you don’t cross the solid lines or you’ll land a three-second penalty to be served on-track at the yellow-marked penalty zone.
Daily Races are the main ranked multiplayer events in Gran Turismo 7. Your Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) are determined by your performances, updating at the end of each race, and these are used to set your ranking and league for the game’s flagship esports series each season.
In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.
With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, December 1.
