Another unconventional hot-lap event awaits in the latest Gran Turismo 7 Online Time Trial, beginning today and running over the next two weeks.
Following the oval shenanigans of last week’s event — still running for another seven days, of course — we’ve got another departure from the usual circuit-based norm as you’ll be heading to GT7’s only ice-bound course at Lake Louise. Unlike the last event here, it’s at the reverse version of the short track.
You’ll need some low traction skills for this event then, which features the Toyota GR Corolla hot hatch, sibling to the GR Yaris used at the last Lake Louise time trial, and requires Snow tires. If you borrow a car for the event it’ll have these studded options pre-fitted, but you’ll need to buy a set for your own vehicle.
Unlike last week’s challenge, where the ultimate pace was easy to spot to within a couple of hundredths of a second, knowing where the record will settle here is more of a guess. The early flurry of activity has seen the top time settle at a 1:01.097 after drifting downwards, but there’s not too much of a gap between all of the pacesetters. Only a second separates the top 50 right now.
We reckon that 1:00.x looks pretty tempting to dedicated time-triallers, so we’re expecting that to be broken sooner rather than later, and maybe a couple of tenths further by the close of play. That means the gold marker should drop from its current 1:02.929 to something more like a 1:02.570, but we’ll reassess next week.

Last week’s left-a-thon event is still in place, although for 99.98% of players it will have been a one-and-done gold event.
That said, times have fallen a lot further than we’d thought possible, although in the context of the 220mph lap of Daytona’s Tri-Oval that’s only a few thousandths of a second. The global record is now a 40.524, setting the gold marker — at +1% rather than the usual +3% — at 40.929.
We don’t see how that’s going to fall any further, as it’s 0.005 faster than second and nobody else is sub-40.53, but since you should be getting a 40.8 lap on your first flying run by simply hugging (but not crossing) the yellow line in the banking at full throttle it’s fairly immaterial.
In order to access the Online Time Trials, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. As it’s just you against the clock and not a direct, head-to-head multiplayer event, PlayStation Plus is not required.
You’ll usually need to be within 3% of the fastest time globally once the event finishes in order to secure “gold” status and a 2m credit bonus prize. There’s smaller prizes of one million for being within 5%, and 250,000cr for bronze at 10% off.
The events update every Thursday, with each individual challenge usually remaining available for two weeks and the oldest of the two events being replaced each week. You can look forward to the next new Time Trial arriving at 0700 UTC on Thursday April 17.
