There’s a new Gran Turismo 7 Online Time Trial available from today, offering the chance to scoop up a decent bump to your in-game wallet for only a few minutes’ effort.
Once again each part of the combo is familiar, despite the recent update, but the event does offer something of a different challenge than the usual time trials as you’ll be driving a relatively loose car on tires all-but made of plastic and on a circuit where there’s little chance to stretch your legs.
The car in question is the S13-generation Nissan Silvia Q’s — shorthand for “Queen”, as the various trims of the Silvia were named for playing cards — which became beloved of tuners and drifters thanks to its relatively humble but highly robust underpinnings. You’ll be driving it in stock form though (and definitely no engine swaps), which means a little over 130hp, even if you can go one tire grade stickier with Comfort Soft rubber.
Willow Springs hosts the hot-lap event, and specifically the Streets of Willow Springs that’s also a venue for the Silvia Sisters race event. By comparison to “The Fastest Road in the West” of the sibling Big Willow track, Streets is more of a handling course — as you’ll see from the cones, blocks, and the skidpan that makes up the final corner.
At present the record for this combination is knocking on the door of a 1:26 flat, setting gold at a mid-1:28. However we’re expecting times to both tumble and perhaps be reset at some point, as there’s an underhand method of gaining significant additional speed before you start your lap. If this method is prevented on PD’s end, we’d estimate a flat-1:28 will be enough to get gold by the end of the event.

The event from last week remains in place for another seven days, and the targets are pretty much in line with expectations.
A handful of drivers have now dropped into the high 1:59s, and with the record being a 1:59.829 you’ll need to register a 2:03.423 to get into the gold bracket. It’s a dynamic target though, and we can see there being a late flurry that could drop that quite a bit; a flat 2:03 will almost certainly be good enough to secure it and the 2m credit reward.
In order to access the Online Time Trials, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. As it’s just you against the clock and not a direct, head-to-head multiplayer event, PlayStation Plus is not required.
You’ll usually need to be within 3% of the fastest time globally once the event finishes in order to secure “gold” status and a 2m credit bonus prize. There’s smaller prizes of one million for being within 5%, and 250,000cr for bronze at 10% off.
The events update every Thursday, with each individual challenge usually remaining available for two weeks and the oldest of the two events being replaced each week. You can look forward to the next new Time Trial arriving at 0700 UTC on Thursday August 14.
