Gran Turismo 7 Weekly Challenges: Rush Hour

A new round of Gran Turismo 7 Weekly Challenges is making its way to consoles, as midnight arrives on Friday morning in your local time zone, bringing five new races — including one of the oddest we’ve ever seen as a one-off event.

Weekly Challenges consist of five events, switching out each Friday morning, for players to take on during a seven-day window. Four are picked from existing races in the World Circuits menu, while there’s a fifth “Special Event” that’s created just for that week. You’ll need to place third or better in each race to complete them, with bonus prizes of higher rewards the more you finish.

The lowest-reward event this week is the American FR Challenge 550 event, over two laps of Laguna Seca. Don’t sweat the “550” part — which refers to the Performance Point (PP) recommendation for a competitive race — as you only need an FR Road car from any American brand to take part, with a 10,000cr winner’s prize.

If you haven’t already unlocked the Silvia Sisters Bonus Menu you’ll need to do so to access the respective event at the Streets of Willow Springs course. This is a three-lap race for any Nissan Silvia (or 180SX or SilEighty) road cars in any state of tune at all — and there are some wild engine swaps available. Don’t go mad though as it’s not a hard race to win and the 35,000cr prize isn’t going to offset the expense of big-power tunes.

We’ve got an absolute odd-ball in the Special Event up next. On the face of it there’s nothing too odd about a Honda Civic One-Make race — for any Honda Civic road car in the game — at the fast Tokyo Expressway East Clockwise course, but six of the 20-car field is literally just traffic. You’ll encounter these slow-moving vehicles, comprising HiAce vans, a Mazda Atenza, and a Prius or two, midway through lap three of the four, which might make getting the clean race bonus tricky — as will the persisting rain. The 85,000cr reward for winning is decent enough though.

Another unlock-required event is the Hypercar Parade at Interlagos. This is a seven-lap affair for which any Road car is eligible, and there’s some pretty fast stuff out there like the Valkyrie. You can, of course, cheese it in a Tomahawk S, or Ferrari or Skoda VGTs, but however you do it there’s 95,000cr for winning.

Finally we have the regular World Touring Car event at the top of the pile, with the WTC700 race at Red Bull Ring. It’s a ten-lapper for any car of any kind so long as it’s within the 700PP limit while using Racing tires, and there’s 115,000cr on offer if you’re victorious.

The bonuses this week include credit tickets — which need to be redeemed from your Garage’s Gifts section to collect their value — of 100,000cr and 200,000cr for completing any one and any three races respectively. A Six-Star Roulette ticket awaits for completing five, with potential rewards including a half-million and a million credits, or any Brand Central car (including Invite-only cars) worth 500,000cr or more.

You’ll need to have completed GT Cafe Menu Book 39 and watched the ending movie in order to have access to the Weekly Challenges. The events update at midnight local time on Thursday evenings/Friday mornings, so we’d expect the next set on the morning of Friday May 16.
