GTPlanet Rig Builder Launches to Help You Plan Your Sim-Racing Setup

When people find out I own a site like GTPlanet, there is usually one question I get more than any other: “what sim-racing hardware should I buy”?

The real answer, of course, is “it depends”.

It depends on whether you race on PlayStation, Xbox, or PC. It depends on your budget. It depends on where the wheel is going to live. Clamped to a desk? On a stand in front of your couch? Bolted onto a full rig? How much room do you have? Do you want something you can pack away when you’re done? Answer those and I can point you somewhere useful; skip them and I’m basically guessing.

Of course, if you’ve been in this hobby for years, you’ve probably already worked through those questions the hard way. But for someone just getting started, it’s a wall of brands, quick-release systems, spec sheets that don’t line up, and when they ask for help, the best advice they usually get is usually pretty vague.

That’s what inspired me to create the GTPlanet Rig Builder. It’s a free tool for finding, comparing, and pricing sim-racing hardware, and putting it all together into a complete, custom setup that actually works.

The Hardware Database

Rig Builder’s Hardware Database

At the core is a database launching with more than 420 products from Fanatec, Logitech, Moza, Next Level Racing, Thrustmaster, and Trak Racer, covering wheel bases, steering wheels, pedals, shifters, cockpits, wheel stands, and the accessories that go with them.

Every product has a short description and a set of specifications normalized within its category, so you can line up a Moza base against a Fanatec base on the same terms instead of reading two different spec sheets. Wheel base and steering wheel listings can also be filtered by quick-release system, and a comparison tool lets you put up to three products side by side to see exactly how they differ.

Prices, Deals, and Stock Alerts

Daily Deals and Product Alerts

Prices and stock are checked every day in every region GTPlanet covers.

The price tracker shows every price and availability change in one place, and the deals page shows where the biggest savings can be found right now. Where a GTPlanet coupon code applies, the discounted price is calculated for you so there’s no guesswork about what you’ll actually pay.

If you’re waiting on one specific product, you can sign up for an email alert that fires the moment it drops in price or comes back in stock at your local store.

If you’d rather keep an eye on the whole market, there’s a new Daily Deals newsletter. Every day it sends a single email listing every product whose price has been reduced in the past 24 hours, so a quiet sale on a set of pedals or a cockpit won’t slip past you.

Build Your Rig

Build Map and Configurator

The builder itself is where it all comes together.

Start from any product and add the rest of your hardware around it. Whether you’re clamping a wheel to a desk, using a wheel stand in front of the couch, or bolting everything to a full cockpit, the builder knows what mounts to what.

It’s all built on a compatibility engine that checks every pairing as you go. It enforces ecosystem rules between bases and wheels, flags parts that don’t fit, and draws a visual map of your build so you can see how each piece connects to the next.

Pairings that technically work but aren’t officially supported by the manufacturer are marked as “unverified” rather than compatible, so you’ll know when you’re stepping into unknown territory.

Each build shows a running total, with discounts applied where available, and a direct purchase link for every item. Builds save automatically in your browser (no account or login required), and every one gets its own URL. Share it with a friend and they can copy it, swap parts, and make it their own.

If you’d rather start from something ready-made, the Featured Builds page has a hand-picked set of complete setups across a range of budgets.

The Wizard

Rig Builder Wizard

Not sure what you want? The Rig Builder Wizard asks a few questions about your budget, your platform, and how you plan to race, then generates several complete builds that fit the bill. Each one can be saved, shared, and edited like any other build.

Thank You!

The Rig Builder is the first major new addition to GTPlanet in several years, and I would like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who tried it during the beta and reported back. More brands and products are on the way, and the tool will keep growing with the market.

If you run into a dead link, a wrong price, or a build that doesn’t look right, please let me know. Otherwise, go build something!
