GTR Revival “Aiming to Be the Best in All Areas”, Planned for a Holiday 2024 Release

After a little quiet spell on the development front, Straight4 Studios chief Ian Bell has released some more information on the GTR Revival project, including a possible launch window for the title of “Holiday period” of 2024.

Bell’s taken to Twitter to show off some in-game screenshots of, and a new logo for, the title — which still isn’t officially named. Indeed the updated version of the game’s logo seems to refine the title from “GTR Revival” to “GTRevival“, with Bell making the curious note of “Legalities. :)”.

That’s likely something to do with the fact that Sector3 — which was formerly Simbin and co-developed GTR and GTR2 with Bell’s Blimey! Games — retains the GTR branding in the sim racing sector, as suggested by its own aborted attempts to produce GTR3 back in 2017.

The screenshots feature Interlagos and the Audi R8 GT3 Evo. That’s a car which is getting pretty familiar to gamers now as it features in several different titles — although that does allow for some comparison. Bell comments that this is simply a “more polished” car, rather than a GT3 focus, and the goal is to include many different classes of car including classic GT racers from previous GTR titles.

That’s part of some loftier aims stated by Bell, which include the target of being “the best in all areas … physics, input, looks, audio, ergonomics, models, etc”.

To that end, GTRevival will have a brand new physics engine and a newly developed tire model Bell is calling “Seta 2”; both the Madness Engine and Seta tire models of Project CARS are now under EA’s ownership.

Straight4 is working with Reiza Studios, which used and developed — only by “about six” lines of code out of the millions provided, according to Bell — the Slightly Mad team’s Madness Engine for its Automobilista 2, so the teams should be pretty familiar with each other’s work.

Whatever the final game is called, GTRevival will be published by Plaion and arrive on both PC and consoles (we presume ninth-gen only) with that late-2024 date lightly pencilled in.
