Kazunori Yamuachi Checks Out Mercedes SLS AMG

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past year (or just not reading the car magazines/blogs…), you probably know about the new Mercedes SLS AMG – the company’s replacement for the SLR McLaren and the spiritual successor to the classic 300SL Gullwing. It was only recently announced by Mercedes, but that didn’t stop Kazunori Yamauchi from getting the chance to slip behind the wheel. As you can see in these two apparently leaked videos (see the other one here), Yamauchi-san saw the car both with and without camouflage, outside and in.

The obvious question: was he checking out the car while the Polyphony Digital team gathered the necessary data for Gran Turismo 5? We may never know for sure – even if it doesn’t make it on to the Blu-Ray disc, it’s still an obvious candidate for download in the future. Time will tell! Thanks to SleepyK for digging this up!

Cant wait to drive it. But why does Mercedes have to drop the SLR Mclaren, the car that set the bar for fastest car with an auto transmission. The SLS is great, but I want my SLR.

I dont really like Mercedes cars and it’s not different with this car. It’s not really my priority to have it included, but if PD wants to include it, I won’t complain.

I can’t have one of these in my garage, the doors would keep bashing and banging the rest of garage and equipment that I have dangling from the roof of it.

It’s ergonomically a very poor design in my eyes.

If its there in GT5, I’ll give it a go.

nah probably released with the game, theres still a few months left, and im sure they would be well under way the stages of modelling it

    @meatbag,

Actually, all of the cars you mentioned are not automatic transmission that is found on the Merc.
They have paddle shifts without manual clutch. Main difference would be that as you the driver change the speed of your car, the driver decides and selects the gear as where in Mercs the driver puts the gear in “D” and your transmission selects the right gear for you.
Do you see the difference smart man?
I am just expressing personal taste and opinion.

Thanks for the info on the Gran Turismo game coming out info bits “Mr I know the Obvious therefore I am smart”.

    @ infernoflame:

you’re right its not a pure bred race car, the original gullwing 300SL wasnt a race car either. its galled a Grand Touring Car or GT for short. strangely theres this game coming out soon called Gran Turismo, and its about cars, all kinds of cars, but the sweet spot in the game is these “GT” cars. by the way, i’m a big fan of the manual “row-your-own” transmission but even “Pure Race cars” are using autos these days. Ferrari, Porsche Mercedes, Lamborghini, all use DSG transmissions or variations thereof. modern F1 cars use them as well as many GT3, GT2, GT1, GTP2 and GTP1 cars in the Le Mans race series. but i guess they arent real sports cars either, hmm?

That car looks epic! Definitely an upgrade visually compared to the SLR. I’ve never been a fan of it. Apparently, i’ve been living under a rock :P

    Not pure race bred car…
It a super car for fat rich old people who don’t want to shift.
Automatic trany isn’t my idea of real sports car.

No doubt it’s going to be in the game if he made time to go check it out.

I’m just hoping for all AMG models to make an appearance

I began to figure this would be the car on the GT5 cover seeing as it is similar to the GT-R in the same respect in which they are or were both pre-production cars when they (and will) be entered in the game.
