The 2016 season of the GTPlanet Sportscar Series is about to kick off, with the VW Fun Cup at the London 12 Hour!
With qualifying wrapping just hours ago, the 14 teams – with 54 drivers representing 14 countries, natch – will be running in identically-prepped ’66 Beetles. Despite the meagre double-digit horsepower, competition is already fierce, with the top 20 drivers all within a second of one another during qualifying. With driver times averaged for each team, 11 of the 14 are still that close, with the top two Pro teams separated by only 0.059 seconds.
The team starting out front is Top Notch Racing, the red #23 Bug sitting just ahead of Dragon Razor Racing’s #16. Row two has all-Brit Reaper Online Racing (#48) in third, while Turtle Racing League (#68) tops the Pro-Am class with their fourth-place starting position. Can-Am team Weil Racing Limited (#72) rounds out the top 5, giving them the inside line into Paddock Hill against the #66 car from DART.
GTPlanet’s Youtube channel will be broadcasting the entire race live, which you can catch up top. The playlist allows you to easily jump to the second portion of the race once the halfway mark is hit. In the commentary box, you’ll be hearing from these five community members:
