New Gran Turismo Movie Promo Features Jann Mardenborough and Behind-the-Scenes Footage

As most regular GTPlanet readers know, the upcoming Gran Turismo feature film will tell the true story of 2011 GT Academy champion Jann Mardenborough. Now, Sony Pictures has released a new promotional video for the film featuring Jann himself talking with actor Archie Madekwe who will play him in the movie.

“To have a film made about [me], I never thought that was even possible,” Jann said. “Arriving on set, it was very surreal. The scale and the attention to detail in the cars. It blew my mind.”

Despite playing Jann on screen, however, it doesn’t sound like Archie will be switching careers any time soon…

“I have nothing but respect for Jann,” explained Archie. “Being in the car is the most difficult thing I have ever done. Jann has this burning passion and desire to achieve more than what his circumstances were allowing. That is unbelievably inspiring.” Archie also astutely pointed out that he “thinks this is the first time ever there is a film being made about someone’s life and they are stunt driving in the film.”

Sure enough, Jann joined the stunt driving team as production crews filmed the movie at various circuits around the world, including the Hungaroring and in Dubai. There were other notable stunt drivers on set, including champion drifter Dai Yoshihara who has long had close ties with Polyphony Digital. Real-racer/sim-racer David Perel was involved with the movie’s production as well.
