Team GT Academy Competing at the Nürburgring 24hr This Weekend with Kazunori Yamauchi

12 months after he scored a class victory for Schulze motorsport, Gran Turismo founder Kazunori Yamauchi returns to the Nürburgring 24hr race but this time he has another famous Gran Turismo name accompanying him.

Yamauchi has again teamed up with Opera Performance founder Yasukichi Yamamoto and Tobias Schulze – his teammates from last year – but there’s a seat for the first GT Academy winner Lucas Ordoñez in the SP8T class Team GT Academy Nissan GT-R #123.

The schedule for this year’s race is:

May 17th, 17:30-21:30 GMT – Qualifying 1
May 18th, 07:35-09:35 GMT – Qualifying 2
May 18th, 16:00-16:50 GMT – Top 40 Qualifying
May 19th, 14:00GMT – Race Start
May 20th, 14:00GMT – Race Finish

After the first two qualifying sessions, covering evening and morning driving conditions, the #123 car is first in class (making it two GT Academy pole positions at the Nürburgring this weekend) with a fastest lap of 8’59.695, but 47th overall so the team won’t be participating in the Top 40 shootout this afternoon. GTPlanet member Christhedude will also be driving in the race in his SP7 class #54 Porsche 911, currently 3rd in class and 36th overall with an 8’42.507 lap ahead of Qualifying 3.

Too bad no sports/racing channels pick this up. We need to have a racing channel that shows nothing but racing and unlike Speed channel seems to think everybody wants more and more NASCAR.

Just imagine a racing channel that would show all the endurance races throughout the world and live.

The GT-R looks way better than last year, I must admit.

I wonder if We’ll all see it be created for GT5, like the one used for last years race?

I want them. Car in game, and helmet IRL. Well, car IRL too, but yeah, where can I get the helmet? Ooh, this looks to be amusing.

    :D

Love the dark blue livery this year, and loving the fact Lucas is getting to drive alongside Mr. Yamauchi. That’s great. One question… how come Tobias Schulze is driving with Opera this year, have Schulze Motorsports collaborated with Opera this year, or did they just get Tobias as a driver?

There was a GTP member who was a racer? How come I didn’t get to say hello to him? :( Anyways. This is a great year for these guys. Well done, and good luck at the race. :D
