24 Hours of Le Mans 2012 Features Two GT Academy Winners, Live Streams & Coverage

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is finally here! This year’s race features not one but two drivers competing thanks to the Gran Turismo video game series.

Lucas Ordonez, winner of the first GT Academy in 2008, is racing in his second 24 Hours of Le Mans with the Greaves Motorsport team alongside Martin Brundle (who won Le Mans in 1990 in the “Silk Cut” Jaguar XJR-12) and his son, Alex. The team qualified 11th in their LMP2 class.

“I feel more confident and generally more ready for this than last year,” said Lucas. “It was stressful last time but I have a great feeling about this race. We have a car that is easy to drive in race trim and we are all ready for what lies ahead of us. We are a good team and I think we did the sensible thing today and got ourselves prepared for the race, rather than going for pole. We may not be on pole position but we are in a great position for the Le Mans 24 Hours.”

Jordan Tresson, winner of GT Academy in 2010, is making his Le Mans debut with Signatech Racing, who qualifying qualified 13th in LMP2. “We had a few issues that delayed our program but we have finished the day with a good race car and we are happy with our strategy. I’m not feeling nervous about the race as I don’t put pressure on myself like that. I’m excited to be taking part in my first Le Mans 24 Hours and maybe 13 will be our lucky number!”

Here’s all the links you need to follow along with this weekend’s race. On behalf of the GTPlanet community, good luck Lucas and Jordan!

I sure hope the Toyota, Audi, and Nissan cars all make it into the GT series someday! A few extra GT Class cars would be a nice addition as well ;).

That way we can put the Audi up against the Peugot and Toyota at the same time. The race that never happened!

  2. Foxiol

I am watching the race in EuroSport (spanish version) and they are talking with Lucas Ordoñez and he is saying that the car was difficult to drive because they have a problem with the gas almost for the entire race. He said that the gas was stuck at 30% all the time. (without putting the foot on it…like the car was all the time accelerated). I don´t know how is it called in English, but the problem was caused because of the gearbox (something like a timer or something like that), every time they changed gears down the revs were too high. (bad explanation but at least i tried, lol)

They fixed the problem in the morning but the problem is back now close to the end but it is not as important as it was.

He is talking right now and saying that he was comfortable with the car overall and he enjoyed a lot the last steam. The night was the worst part because of the gas/acceleration problem.

He was asked if he want to race with a LMP1 car sometime soon and he said that hopefully for 2014 if Nissan put a car for the race he will love to race for the team because is the place where he started. But there are no news from Nissan not even rumours about that. He is thinking in keep racing with LMP1 cars because he is learning a lot and the competition is tough.

Also he tried the Nissan Delta Wing and he said that the car was very unstable while breaking but the car was still good and fast. (they did a very good time with it)

    Well that´s it for now.

    12.44pm

Both guys doing well in 14th and 15th place…..

Used to argue with my dad saying game drivers can become real race drivers, heres the proof

    Well done guys

  4. Dragfan

also mazda should make the mazda furai into a gt car, although i think they would have to do that thing where mazda has to sell at least 100 of the furai’s to get into the gt class. still it would be cool to see a rotary again. wait, wasnt the rotary banned or something from the lm series or was that something else?

    1. larsh

Well, not banned, they changed the regulations :)

But anyway, right now any rotary does not fit the rules.

  5. Dragfan

I wish PD could make a lmp dlc with some of these new lmps racing and maybe some classic lm cars like the homwet tx turbine car. lol, imagine seeing a turbine car in gt5

    1. Progress823

+1…. Not too many people know about the Howmet. Just as important as the 2J; the TX was the first time a gas turbine powered car was used in racing.

    2. Dragfan

also , here are some ideas for a f1 dlc, 1967 STP paxton turbocar which was a turbine f1 car, cosworth garish awd f1 contender, the six wheeled tyrell p34 f1 (imagine a six wheeled f1 lol), and the 1952 cummins diesel special f1. those are the f1’s i want

  6. grasso89

Kristiansen might make it 8 wins. The #1 Audi looked so strong all race. It just shows how demanding this 24hr race is.

  7. Quakebass

    Man, the #3 Audi just took 4th – It’ll likely be a 1-2-3-4 finish for Audi… Again!
The Nissan teams aren’t doing so bad, either…

  8. HuskyGT

How that DeltaWing sticks to the ground in turns, still goes beyond me. My logic tells me that the bigger the tires and the axel width, the more surface area the car is making contact with. Reason why cars turn much better than bikes.

    1. HuskyGT

With such narrow front tires and axel width, the car shouldn’t turn at all.

So what an incredible machine it is. We should get it as DLC.

    2. Quakebass

It’s too bad that the Toyota took it out… I would’ve liked to see how well it stacked up, despite it being a “show” car.

  9. Youngun

i hate seeing forza plastered over the track, for 24 hrs, how depressing. PD should sponsor it, foot in the door to get the cars then too

    1. OmarBaez53

Well, if you look at every cars front window you see ”www.gran-turismo.com” in most of the cars, i think thats enough.

  10. Quakebass

Man, that Toyota had a pretty big wreck with the 458; amazing that the drivers were hardly injured…

    Poor DeltaWing…

    1. Youngun

it put up a good show and for a proto type, did well. will evolve and return strength by strength

    1. Quakebass

You only care about the HP…? So the weight and fuel economy have no meaning to you…? The power-to-weight ratio is supposed to be about the same as a typical LMP car, and about the same lap times, but it’s supposed to use half the amount of fuel doing so.

    2. HuskyGT

Power to weight ratio, my friend. Is not only about power. The DeltaWing has an incredible wieght of nearly 450 kilograms (around 800 pounds).

    3. OmarBaez53

If power is the only thing you need to go fast, then why the veyron is too slow in race tracks that arent all-straight like the nurburgring, a 1001HP monster being almost defeated by a 4door 300HP+ car like a impreza is embarrassing

    4. Johnie12inch

Your a moron OP, it’s innovative design, experimental design. It was rammed of the track unforgettably by a foolish failed racing driver, but it’s test was to prove it can be efficient and race, do you understand anything about this car? Heard of a thing called Google? It works a treat.

  11. DCP

Why the eff dont we see 3-4 cars slipstreaming from 1.5 seconds behind the leader and passing him before the 1st chicane on the main straight????
PD need to yet again sort this out. Setting to WEAK does nothing. Slipstream on GT5 is arcadish, and Le Mans is a true reflection of how it must be. This is a simulator, right??

    Anycase, rant over.
    Go Toyota

    1. Youngun

not just that but a multiclass race like le man or nurburg 24hr too. Pit lanes might be hard to replicate like puncher, broken wing, diffuser, jammed wheel nut, driver change (visually proper) etc

    2. Bushby_23

Don’t forget to mention the rev range of the Diesel engines. Audis are upshifting at around 4500, no idea how close that is to their cut out though.

  12. TokoTurismo

Best of luck to both Lucas and Jordan. :) I’ll so love to see the Delta Wing in GT5, along with those GT Academy cars in the photos. ;)

  13. Youngun

Seems good so far, Go Brundle Bunch! #42 ;)
There going easy on the delta wing but on a positive note, at least it will win the class lol. Put in a good best lap but 1 in 3 fast ones only. Batmans a good driver.

  14. 19988pasha

Speed is doing a good coverage on the tele and I think theyll have a good live coverage when Nascar starts.

The Audi is pretty damn fast but its limited to 75mph so Toyota has a chance

  15. ROYALEFATALE

the Audi stream seems to be the only live video at the moment :( FIAWEC stream is offline but their audio is on Audi’s cam…

  16. Flagmo-T

It’s going to be interesting to see, If The Nissan Delta_Wing Test Car (LMP), will be featured in GT5 in the nearest future :o)

    1. Pit Crew

Agreed but only with NISSANS blessings. Would like to see Lucas Grieves sport car and Jordans Signatech. Hopefully there will be some slack cut far as licensing, as they are associated (GTAcademy) with PD, Kaz & NISSAN. Getting the sponsored themed skin may be a whole other fight.

  17. Flagmo-T

Ohh man This is Great, that these guys are competing against the Hardcore Leman drivers such as Tom Christensen, Which I of course would like to see win again ( I’m Danish) But To see Lucas and Jordan showing of some Real Racing SKills, is a great experience to watch.. Best of Luck to these two Guys :o)

  18. omgitsbees

Awww yeah! The 24 Hours of Le Mans is a big deal for me. I’ve been watching it since I was very year. Usually the entire 24 hours too.

  19. adam46

I thought Brundle was in a Nissan when he won?

Anyway, I will be posting a report on the race on the Tuesday of next week!

    1. Pit Crew

Did NISSAN/Datsun have a car entered in Lemans in 1990s. Thought the present GTR was their best world class racing engineering effort beyond the JGTC. Could be wrong or Offbase, so please dont take wrong way.

    2. Bom15

      There’s been a few Nissan’s at Le Mans before. Nissan R85, R86, R87, R88, R89 from the 80’s. Best finishing position in the 80’s was the R88 from 1988. It finished 14th. In the 90’s there was the R90, Skyline R33 GT-R, R390 GT1 and R391. Best finish in the 90’s was the R390 GT1 in 1998 where it finished 3rd.

  20. Maddens Raiders

What an absolutely unbelievable story. From playing GT to racing in the most legendary race in the world. Bravo gentlemen, bravo.

    1. evertV12

I will crap my pants when first GT Academy winner join a F1 team. Would like to see it happen though.

  21. Trux

Last years race was excellent. Hopefully Toyota can push the Audi’s this year and the LM GTE Pro class is always excellent.

  22. Snaeper

I know it probably won’t ever happen, but I’d love to see those two cars (and the DeltaWing) in GT. Not to mention some of the other GTAcademy cars.

  23. Gejabo

    Looking forward to it.

luckily it is broadcasted on Dutch television this year, so I can keep an eye on GTP as well. :D
