Forza Horizon 5 Cover Cars Revealed, More Game Details

The latest installment of the Forza Horizon 5 “Let’s Go!” series has given Forza fans a first look at the game’s cover art, along with some more information on cars and events in the game.

For the third game in a row, Playground Games has gone for a pairing of cars on the cover, featuring a high performance road car and an off-road machine — though this time the mudplugger is doubled-up.

First up is the expected “hero” car of FH5, the Mercedes-AMG ONE. Powered by a 1.6-liter turbo-hybrid V6 engine based on the unit used in the championship-winning W07 Hybrid F1 car, the ONE moves over 1,000hp to all four wheels — and with a press of the left stick can switch between “track” and “street” modes.

Following that is the 2021 Ford Bronco Badlands, or rather two of them. The all-new Bronco will be one of the three cars players get to choose from at the beginning of the game to start their Horizon adventure, and with 315hp going to all four wheels, it will be more than capable of exploring every square meter of drivable terrain.

Those three starter cars will also include the new Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray and the Toyota GR Supra, but Forza Horizon 5 shakes up the formula a bit. In the previous games, players were only able to select one car to begin their journey and acquire the others along the way by purchasing them.

This time around, no matter which of the three you select at the beginning, all three will immediately be added to the player’s garage. As Playground Games’ creative director Mike Brown points out, now you’ll only feel the consequences of your initial decision for as long as you remain in the car. It’s certainly fitting with the car collection ethos of the Forza Horizon series.

As well as the all-important hero and starter cars, the team at PG gave us a quick look at some other brand new cars coming to the game. That starts right at the first event, which introduces you to the Horizon Festival, where you’ll drive the three starter cars but also one of the two 1989 Porsche 911 Desert Flyer cars.

In addition to all of that, the stream also revealed six other brand-new cars, from two of the Horizon series’ most-populated brands.

First up is the Hoonigan Ford Escort RS, confirming the return of the Hoonigan brand after speculation it might be absent this time around. That’s the star car in the “On a Wing and a Prayer” Showcase, one of four showcases in the game, where the player races a cargo plane, dirt bikes, and one racer with a wingsuit.

The next car is decidedly appropriate for a game series moving from the United Kingdom to Mexico, in the shape of the Ford Escort 1850 GT Mk1. That’s the car which took part in a 16,000-mile long 1970 rally event from London to Mexico — and won. It also gave birth to the famous Escort Mexico model.

Third came another Bronco, but rather a special one: the Bronco R Baja 1000 Race Truck. Loosely based on the Ford Bronco, the truck took part in the 2019 Baja 1000 rally — albeit not entirely successfully. The Ford section of the new car list rounded out with the F-450 Super Duty, a 6.7-liter turbodiesel dually which should make light work of most of Mexico’s terrain.

Porsche also featured in the presentation, with a special Porsche Macan built by LP Racing to take on the Dakar Rally. Last but definitely not least was the 750hp Porsche Taycan Turbo S, an electric grand tourer with brutal acceleration.

One further car had a little bit of airtime on the stream too, though the official Forza social channels revealed the Sierra RX3 offroad buggy last week.

Finally, those looking for a little taste of FH5 today can do so by logging into Forza Horizon 4 where players will receive a special gift. As you can see above, that’s a Volkswagen Golf R clad in a special livery using some of the murals in the upcoming game. We can confirm that the Golf R is available to claim in the message center now.

Less than three months remain until Forza Horizon 5 is available on Xbox Series consoles and Windows 10 PCs this November, and we’re sure there’s more to follow as we count down the days. Stay tuned!

I’m not as excited about this game as I was when it was announced. It just looks like more of the same, which is not a bad thing since FH4 was a great game, but it isn’t as different as I hoped it to be.

I love this selection of cars.

I’m a big fan of 80’s and older cars so this Escort Rally Car is definitely gonna be something I’ll get when the game releases.

As for the Golf, I’ll see if I can’t repaint it into my home paint design, “Coco Fluffyblue”.
