Whats this?

KIA Rio5 I think...

Also, is it just me or is Forzacentral down?

Looks more like a Fester, to me:

But if the question is "what is this post? / What does it mean?", then I don't know either...

Wasnt sure which thread to post this in so I decided to put it in 2 threads.

This just in from twitter a little while ago.

"Due to technical issues with the Web site, today's Week in Review will be delayed. Stand by for more when we know more."

Also if you put your curser over FM4 in the home page you will see there is a drop down with 2 options. Tracks and cars. Its not working yet though. Update: It seems to have disappeared. Im assuming it will be back at some point.

I would guess thats Forza 3 vs Forza 4 comparative screenshot?

Here's a smart guy. Pretty obvious imo.👍

Repost: We can clearly see the insides of the car being fully lit now. Also the reflection and fallof of the paint is looking much better. than it was.

Even if it's an AI car, if you're selecting it as the car the camera should follow during replay, it's at the same LoD as the player's car, if I'm not mistaken.

I for one definitely couldn't tell the difference between this one and a car driven by a player:

The exterior matches the players car, the interior is only detailed for your car.

Seems to show exactly the same details regarding the interior. And this time, it's the player's car.

You don't get it.
All I'm saying is that the AI cars always have badly detailed interiors, the exteriors LoD is the same as the players cars LoD.

Exactly, I don't get it. Two videos, one of the AI, one of the player, both have equally badly detailed interiors, which can be seen in numerous close-ups in both videos.

Those were AI cars, you can switch players in replays.

I think you're confusing replay mode with photo mode. In replay mode, all the cars (including the player's) appear to be the same level of detail (LOD). In photo mode however, the player's car is more detailed than the AI cars.

Well it would be, you posted them! FM3 vs. FM4 did cross my mind, but I couldn't be bothered to go out on a limb with it. However, for clarification, which is which? It might well be pretty obvious, but not to everyone.
Funny though, when you originally posted the pics, they were practically ignored, but now you've told us what they are, a discussion has arisen. 👍 (just sayin')

Incidentally, it seems we could do with a bit of clarification regarding the "AI LoD" and what those videos actually show, too.

Valid argument Griffith i wonder why everyone was sleeping on it...lol. The first of each pair is FM4 a offscreen replay footage. The second is a FM3 offscreen replay image.

Okay, my bad

As most of you know, Forza works with a scalable LoD (level of detail) system, which reduces visual the quality of cars that are further away from the player's car. The argument above arose because, from what I understood, it was mentioned that a car that was driven by the AI during a race would have a lesser detailed interior.

The videos above show Ferrari FXXs, the first one driven by the AI, the second driven by a regular player. It basically shows that the level of detail does not depent on whether the car was driven by the AI or the player (which goes for both the interior and exterior). It all just depends on which car the replay camera is focused on.

And that was the whole point: Whether it was a comparison between FM3 and FM4, or between an AI car and the player's car (which I think wouldn't work that way, as the AI's car would be focused by the camera, and, thus, be at full LoD).

:odd: That's exactly what I said. You can select which car the camera should focus on, and it will be at full LoD, interior and exterior.
No, it will not.

LoD rules are simple in FM3.

In-game = replay = all cars at same LoD.

Photomode = all cars at "in-game LoD" except "your" car which is at full LoD. It doesn't matter if you switch focus, only "your" car will be at full LoD.

Note : Do not confuse real time replay and "rendered" replay (exported to FM.net). "Rendered" replay = photomode.

Note 2 : There is no difference between "interior LoD" and "exterior LoD". There are only two models, "in-game LoD", which feature "black" interior and low detail exterior, and "menu LoD", which feature full details, both inside and outside.

Source : Play the game and you'll see.

Edit : We're talking about "forced LoDs", of course. The game still uses lower LoD when cars have "small" angular footprints (in regard to FoV).

Ahh, sorry, I get it now

I thought it was about the distance LoD that's used while you're actually ingame or during replay, where the LoD lowers with increasing distance. What I meant to say was that the car the camera will be focused on will always at full distance LoD. The "upscaling" that happens for photo mode never een crossed my mind.

My bad

Of course, there is still "classical" LoD usage. See my edit ;)

The thing is that it's likely that "automatic LoDs" (depending on angular footprint) are generated by a simplification algorithm (and are precomputed of course), whereas "in-game LoD" and "menu LoD" are both generated "by hand". I didn't check, but it would be likely that both "in-game LoD" and "menu LoD" have their own set of "automatic LoDs".

Ah crap. We shouldn't call them LoDs in the first place. They're just two different models. The LoD term should be reserved for the automatically simplified models which are used in order to use less resources and reduce aliasing.

I'm convinced that there is no specific "replay model". Replays use the same models as the "in-game" ones. The switch from 60fps to 30fps comes through the use of 4xAA and motion blur ("in-game" uses 2xAA and has no motion blur). And 360 developers may want to confirm this, but I'm pretty sure the reason why they use low poly models is not so much a lack of processing power than a lack of memory, memory you still don't have in replay.

See today 35 days since this thread and Poll were started 100 have now voted in pre-ordering the LCE of FM4. Congratulations to you guys.It really does seem the LCE is appealing to more than just the hardcore FM fanbase.

The week of Gamescom is upon us, having now been 10 weeks since E3 (already gees) and only 8 more weeks to go for the release.
I hope we get an exciting week of news and new media to enjoy.

I'm just expecting the E3 demo to there TBH.

Although more physics info should leak out via players and such. That's what I'm eager to learn.

I'll try to get my hands on a wheel and report back to you guys. I'll only be going to Gamescom on Saturday, though, but I'll try my best nontheless.
