It was a total let down. Halo killer? My ass.

The stereotypical Earth vs. Mars storyline plus a Nazi-like regime running the place. Lame. 👎

Although, I did like the menu screen, but I also liked the Driver 3 menu screen...

Earth VS Mars ? Huh? There are no aliens or lasers, I like the game. I dont know what all the fuss is about. Its clearly better than Red Faction2 and that wasnt a bad game. WE need more games like this as there arent very many games like this.

This game was a big let down? Halo 2 is the biggest joke ever. WTF was all the hype about? A couple new vehicles and dual weilding weapons? Woooooooow.....

Halo was always about the story (something Killzone lacks). The multiplayer was just an added bonus.

I'm not even playing attention to the story, I care more for the core game :). I dont care for hype, just the game. Just like Halo, i dunno what the heck is going on. Just getting through the levels.

So viper you've already beatin Killzone?

I guess I'm in luck. I think both games suck. Heh.

I just got the Killzone demo. Why anybody would like this garbage is beyond my coprehension. Trying to aim and shoot at targets is a nightmare. Talk about a stress maker, geez. By the time you get a proper bead on your target, you die. Nice game!

Wow, this is a coincidence. :D

I came into the ps forum earlier to find a thread on this game since I was about to buy it.
Checked and only saw this thread... Not a single response at that point.

Then I go out, buy the game, drink a few and head on back over to the board... What do you know, everyone has an opinion.

So, being that I just got the game I can't give a full review.
However, :mischievous:

I like the game so far.
The graphics are great. 👍
The controls fall into place well on default, but specific button assignments can be done.
Multiplayer is online capable, but single player battlefields mode is still a riot. :mischievous:
Single player campaign is also fun, but I need to play more than just the first level.

All in all I think the game is great (so far). It also looks like it will be good through and through.

All of the supporting elements seem really good too.
Large maps
Orchestra musical scores
Well rendered cuts
"Decent" AI (with an awesome single player battlefields mode 👍 )

Of course, combine those with great graphics, awesome combat & good controls.

It all comes out to be the best shooter on the playstation2.

Keep Halo in the xbox forum but remember that the PS2 people need a good shooter too... And KillZone is that game!

Just my opinion though.

One last thing I've gotta ask...
What FPS for the PS2 is better than this game? (I am open minded and interested :D).

I´m getting mine next week, but for what I´ve been reading about it I think I´ll like it. It´s not the game we were all expecting to be, but still, it seams to be the best shooter on PS2. I liked Red Faction 2 a lot, and everybody says that Killzone is better, so I should enjoy it.

They should have made the A.I. better. They are pretty dumb at the moment.Otherwise the game is pretty good for a PS2.I just have to say this:Halo 2 murders this game. That's just the simple truth.FPS games aren't really the strong point of the PS2.

8/10

I saw a commercial on Killzone last night. Looked a lot like Socom 2 but that was just at a quick glance. I will add this to my list of games to rent to see how I like it. 2 questions since it is a PS2 game:
1. How many online
2. How is the online play compared to Socom 2 or Medal Of Honor?

I just had to come back and put down thoughts. :D

The sprint function is awesome lol.
I haven't really seen it much in other games, but when you pick up your gun and sprint it really adds to the immersion factors of the game.

The audio is also pretty good. Thanks to the character models of the enemy soldiers, they all have face mask that seem to change their voices to a creepy, deep, computerized tone. (that's single player campaign, no clue about online)

I'm wondering though,
Does red faction 2 have a single player version of multiplayer combat?
Like "AI bots" from N64 shooters.
This game play mode was really, really lacking on socom (which is the only shooter I like for the playstation :( ).

Also, on that note of Socom comparisons:
This game has better graphics hands down.
It's a dedicated first person shooter, so the awesome third person renderings of socom aren't there. However, the first person shooting graphics of this game are great. The environments all look good and the frame rate is not an issue yet (still haven't had the chance to take on 16 AI bots :mischievous: ).

Now of course keep in mind that this is the ps2. We all know the Xbox is the standard at the moment in console gaming so let's not get into the that discussion .

Anyway, I'm gonna go play the game instead of rambling on about it here.
I just hope that my post helps anyone wondering about this game (even if it's just for the money to rent lol).

Until next time (which I am sure will come soon),

Online play is fun and sliky smooth. Timespliters is overrated. I have it for Xbox and I dont see the greatness but its still a fun game(just like Halo).

Soild Lifters, in the full game you can adjust the sensetivity. I dont have a problem aiming, its far better than Red Faction 2.

Progress update:

Single player campaign mode is coming along nicely (playing on easy for the first go round).

Im still impressed with the game. 👍

The controls are falling into place for me as I become acustomed to the control scheme (not used to FPS controls, that I am  ).

I also feel like I should mention something about the graphics.
While it is true that this is not an xbox, I still feel like the graphics of this game are superb.

This game is my top choice over any of the other FPS games I have played.
It totally outranks SOCOM in my book (thanks to the infinate replay value found in Battlefields mode), and it also manages to surpass other games thanks to its game play.

Overall, as a playstation game, I would have to give this game a 8.5 - 9.0 on a scale of 10.
To me there is only 1 thing that could be done to improve the game, and since I haven't beat it yet I still can't say that this feature is not there.

What feature you ask
Customizable weapon selections in battlefield mode.
I loved the custom weapon selections in mutiplayer found in Perfect Dark and think that if this one option was included I would have surely scored this game as a 10/10.

Of course, as I continue to play and beat the game I will continue coming back to this thread with updates for the curious and praises or frustrations to vent for my own good.

Till then,

I will say this about the game, it does look awesome. I just hate how "monkey" the controls are. It's good to hear there is some adjustments available in the full version. Also, I wonder about difficulty levels. How many are there? The demo is just a little too tough for me. Like I said, aiming was hard, and by the time I got on target, I was dead. Throwing greneades was also tough. Lob a grenade, and get killed right after. Every single time. Now, that doesn't sound like fun! Oh well, I'll keep trying.

There is a learning curve with the grenades, just dont move while pulling the pin. The demo was too eas. I've never been killed in the demo. there are 3 settings for difficulty and im playiing on normal. i dont have any trouble with the controls and i can toss grenades on the move with ease. I would say rent it since there are a few tings changed in the full game.

I got this game when it first came out. Great game so far.

I'm glad I did not play the demo before I bought this game otherwise I would not have got it. Played the demo in the issue of OPM that it was in (just to see what other's were talking about), and wow was it horrible.

Well, I guess you're one bad mo'fo. And I'm, just bad. lol

I get killed all the time. I run, see a target, stop and shoot. Is this wrong? Aiming is bad, like I said. I just wish the right stick wouldn't move your aim so quickly. Then, this game would be a lot better. I have to use the zoom function in order to aim slower. But, my field of vision is gets out of wack. But, I'm not giving up yet. This is the first tme I've played a FPS for more than five minutes.

Man, talk about a way to kill the hype lol.

This honestly makes me think about the importance of playstation underground and the demo disc concept.

I got my hands on a demo disc with crash bandicoot, einhander, & GT1. All of those three games went on to be interest of mine. :D
Purchased 2 of them as well.

Now, it might not seem like it, but I try not to fall victim to good marketing for bad products.
With that said, I am amazed that one demo disc could sway my purchasing in the way it did. It's not like I got to buy new games often, so what I did was always gold. :sly:

Any way, enough rambling about demo disc... But I promise, after playing some KZ I will be back with constructive thoughts regarding the game. ;)

Edit
Yo solid lifters! lol
Are you on the demo or the full game?
If full game, go to the options, then controls, then advanced, there will be controller sensitivity (I think).
Slow down the right joystick and you might do better than before... Good luck. :D
(not that you haven't thought of this already... Im not sure lol.)

WELL, ABOUT DAMN TIME!

After spending much of the afternoon on it, I finally finished the demo. Yep, it was just the demo I was playing. My problem was not selecting Luger from the start. He was the last character I tried, and sure enough, he was the best one to use. He moved slower and aimed a lot smoother than the other two retards. He also moved around in a stealth manner and that's what I enjoy more. Dumb and Dumber are more "shoot a lot of bullets at a lot of targets", and I'm not crazy for that type of game play. Sniping is were it's at for me. I wish you guys told me about him sooner.

Oh, that Rico guy is one whopping moron. He kept moving in my line a fire and I found myself moving around him constantly. Sometimes he made me so mad, I'd shoot him on purpose. Idiot.

I took my time playing the demo, and actually had fun. I like how the game is a little different when playing as Luger. I can finish the game in about 6 minutes with a 38% shooting accuracy with him. Not bad, I suppose.

I just might get the game now, but after it goes on sale. I have a feeling it's going to get harder as the game progresses. And I don't want to spend $50 on a game I can't finish.

So, what character is your guy's favaorite? Do characters get more cool weapons as the game progresses?

Luger is a chick :). I just got acess to her in the full game after like an hour or so playing maybe more.

If you run into the open with 2-3 bad guys chances are they will wasteyou quickly and they use the alternate fire on you when u get to close, thats the shot gun shell for their weapon.

I thought Luger was a chick, but I wasn't 100%. Everytime we clear a stage, Rico says, "Good job men." I should've known he would've got that wrong too. She's damn ugly for a chick, don't ya think?

What's fun about playing as her, you get to kill people with your knife. You walk up, and slit their throat, or throw it at them, then she runs up and rips it out. Nice. I also love the silencer she's got. You fire the R2 button for a silencer and the R1 for the machine gun. When using the silencer, the other guards don't hear you kill somebody, and they just walk around ready to be shot themselves.

I've played through the demo a few more times and I've been able to get a 100% hit ratio, with 17 shots and 23 kills and 9 headshots. And all in 6.5 minutes. I'm getting better.

That sucks you can't start off with her. I hate the other two guys with a passion. I hope there is some way to get her from the start. I can't see myself playing as somebody else.

Did anybody play the mode with 16 bots(whoever mentioned that)? I just want to know how it works since those modes were favs from Red Faction... I still play Red Faction with my cousin just to kill off bots... (We try not to cause friendly fire, but it happens all the time) 16 bots is a lot and that sounds promising...
