Just posted a Tomica on my blog. I'll give you one hundred thousand guesses as to which casting it is, you'll never get it right. :lol: Don't click on it @Cano because you'll want to punch me & I can't have that. :D
customs thread.
What's that? :dopey:
All four corners are taped
That looks taped up by the seller to me? I had one purchase before which the blister was partially open? I negotiated the seller that it's not right I pay "sealed" price, and receive a card with blister peeled plenty enough to take the car out. Seller swore to me that it was sealed when he mailed it, and blamed the postal service.

Maybe such thing can happen where glue job fail & blister start to come off the card? I don't know.

P.S. I think all Retro Entertainment castings I have are based on, or same exact castings as the mainline, etc.

Hahaha! That totally should have been the header for your blog. :lol:👍!

I was not expecting that! :lol:

They can, especially if they are older.

They are. Main differences are more tampo detail, metal base, rubber tires.

I'm not an expert on re-sealed blisters by any means but I did have one instance where I bought a mainline at a swap meet and it was obviously repackaged as the blister came off too easy and clean for it not to have been tampered with. With these below when I opened each one the blisters ripped off the cards. But then again I could be wrong

Fangula would've been cool, too.

So where GT has Vision Gran Turismos that become models, Forza has models that become virtual.

So is tape cheaper than glue now? I'm confused as to why they are doing this.

A lot of folks on YouTube think it's because the blister came off the card (perhaps not enough glue applied) so to compensate the factory added tape. I guess it's possible because I felt the packaging was pretty crappy compared to other premium sets. For comparison the Motorhome below, which was made in a different factory in Thailand, has a very sturdy card and the blister was glued tightly so this huge piece wouldn't come off the packaging

I think you could be on to something. Maybe they apply the glue according to the weight of the car (glue costs money, why use more than what's needed?). Maybe there was an error regarding the metal base cars and their plastic base brethren.

Tape and glue are used.

Like I speculated before, it may be a means to authenticate whether a product has been opened via acetone, because I reckon the tape would tear the card just as a warranty sticker would not be resealable after removing.

Perhaps... But the other train of thought is (edit: as AOS just mentioned above) that Mattel is going to add tape to premium sets hoping to prevent people from opening the packages and reselling them as new. If that's the case they must use the round tape cuz the one I showed earlier wasn't very effective

I've never understood the point in doing that. Why do people do that? Open them, only to then repackage them, and sell them on as new. Pointless.

For me I get a kick out of cracking the packs open and enjoy them rather than look at them thru the blister. I guess these people feel the same but they want to make some money once they don't want them anymore or something... So far I have learned (the hard way) these re-sealed cars are found everywhere, even well trusted sellers have a few. Buyer be ware for sure in this hobby

It's especially tough on those of us that collect (or in my case used to collect) wheel variations because you can fake them quite easily. Same goes with errors, and also those thieves out there that will buy the $5 cars, take the rubber tires/wheels and replace them with plastic tires, then re-seal and return.

I still don't get it (well, the people that do it). I've yet to come across a resealed car. Probably never will.

(edit)

@R1600Turbo

I understand those that replace the cars then return, aspect. But really, what idiot would buy something (if they knew what they were looking for), and purchase something that is clearly not the product they thought it would be? It's not like the blisters are blacked out.

Don't get me started on the error stuff. I'm sure you know my opinion on that by now. :lol:

I suppose you haven't seen the pics some of us used to post where they have crappy maistos found inside premium HW cards?

The net gain is they acquired a $5 HW for the price of a $1 Maisto. Some people don't have anything better to do.

@AOS- explained it perfectly.

Yeah sure, I've seen stuff like that on the internet (though not in person). Again, I pity the idiot that buys it for falling for that trick. About the worse I've ever come across (in person), is the ripped open blisters with nothing in them (five finger discount).

Most of the time it's not even a collector that purchases it. When I see them I try to point them out to management, but they could care less and just put them right back out.

I've also seen multi-packs (5 or 9) that people simply slice open the side of the box carefully, replace the cars they want with cheap dollar store cars (or even used yard sale finds), then re-glue and return to the store. Some nasty people out there in this hobby, one reason I pretty much backed most of the way out of it.

But then it's mainly the fault of the employees working in customer service that take the return while being completely clueless.

I think it's probably more of a case of, they just don't care..

[EDIT]

TBH, I have more of a problem with those employees, who pilfer the stock looking for the good stuff, before the public even gets a chance to purchase, and greedy scalping collectors, than those who take the risk of returning opened goods.

Can't really blame the people working at the customer svc because they get hundreds of items being returned so I doubt they can tell the difference between a HW or a Maisto. As long as you don't stick a rock in there if they see 5 cars it's a complete set.

If anything Mattel needs to refuse to credit those returns but then they'll be pissing off Walmart and other retailers
