ahh so its like "pixles"

Well, about HDTV if i want GT4 with 1080i what do i need, cus right now i have a old TV 28* and i guess i cant get/have 1080i with that, what kind of tv do i need. show pics also plz.

Thanks.

No, that part with gt4 must suck was just a joke. You know something, I just realized the ps2 can do bump mapping if the developer uses software mode. I know for a fact the ps2's hardware doesnt support b-mapping but it's possible, look at jak3 for example. It has b-mapping due to the developer using software mode. Is it possible that pd used software mode to get 1080i in?

It's not true 1080i though is it, I don't know the technical stuff about how it's done on PS2 but in GT4 it's just upscaling.

,

it looks noticeably smoother... this is good enough for me, whatever ricks they used to get there

This converter only works with a v9 PS2 and above, so make sure yours is a v9 or newer. And I'm not sure if 1080i would work with it, and if it worked what it would look like.

I just wondered what would happen if I set the game to 1080i. I have a normal tv with my PS2 connected by RGB. Would it look the same as before, would it look different but crappy, or would the picture even collapse?

true.. ok i have a 50000 version i think so i guess it should work..

and about the 1080i function..

"Automatic format selection for 480p, 720p, 1080i/540p"

it should work.. atleast they say so.. ok not sure if it looks good :(
but i think if i use a beamer it's always better then normal composite :D

Granted, I have a sony plasma that's GREAT for the PS2, I just get sick of the constant bickering. It's like my 9 year old nephew fighting with his brother.....ENDLESS!!

Of course playing the game will be the only thing of importance. But this thread is about the 1080i mode, so I thought it might be okay if we discussed this a little. No offense meant! ;)

The main reason it doesn't support progressive scan is because of how the game is coded. They did as much as they could with an interlaced signal to make the game look as good as possible, so with what's going on, to de-interlace the image would actually lower the image quality. That's my take at least. Not to mention it's already pushing the PS2 pretty hard I would assume.

Hmmm. I had been thinking of getting a DVDO iScan line doubler to convert the 480i to 480p, thus filling in the gaps, on my Mits rear-projection HDTV. In your opinion, that would not occur in GT4.
I wish I knew definitively, if that would be the case. Quite a lot of differing opinions. :/

PowerK
S-video cannot carry 480p. 480i is the maximum it can carry. (Well, technically it can also carry 576i PAL).

Can a tv that uses scart connection use the 480p mode, as id really like too get the most out of gt4

Found some pics (there's a few threads so I don't know which to stick them in :p)

What would happen if you select 1080i in GT4 and you're using a 720p TV? Would it still look better than on a 480p tv, or wouldn't it even work?

720p TV is a HDTV. It should not have a problem displaying 1080i Hi-scan images.

I don't think so. That's only for DVD playback because the old models didn't offer progressive scan DVD playback.

All models offer progressive scan video game playback.

If so, that'd be really cool. Is there any way you can make this sure? (no offense!)

There is no need to make sure but for what it's worth I have one in transit from Lik-Sang. I'll let you know when it arrives - if not in the next 12 hours then in a few days after the public holidays.

However, I can confirm progressive scan compatibility in games on any PS2 as I have used it. I have a PS2 from launch day, one from a year later, a debug unit and a slimline PS2.

The adaptor doesn't just work on PS2, so there is nothing special about the PS2's signal. As long as your device is sending a progressive scan component signal through analogue component video then there is no reason I can think of for there to be a problem.

You have four PS2's? No wonder sales are so high.
