Not at all surprising to see Michael up to old tricks, he only further ruins his image (which wasn't so great to me anyway) pulling stuff like this. There was a massive accident in Superleague formula which demonstrates exactly what could have happened with Rubens versus Michael:
Other than that, good race helped by the safety car. Some rather bizarre pit incidents and a rare mechanical failure for Hamilton.
Great drives from:
Webber, Petrov, Kobayashi, Hulkenburg, Barrichello and De La Rosa.
Also a congragulations to all 3 new teams for a 100% survival.
The Hungaroring once again throws up surprise results even if it doesn't give us great overtaking action.
I notice Renault (unsafe release of Kubica) and Mercedes (unsafe release of Rosberg) have been fined $50k each.
We thought we saw Rosberg's wheel roll down the pit lane, pop up into the air, over the Renault mechanics and the Renault lollipop man dived out of the way (coincidentally just as all the mechanics had finished), rather than him just letting Kubica go with Sutil alongside. So it's a bit of an odd situation as far as we're concerned.
Good to see that you can cause two crashes for every race you fix though... [/can'o'worms]
The Renault mechanic didn't "dive out of the way". He was probably distracted by the flying wheel though plus all the madness going on with both De La Rosa, Rosberg and then Sutil coming past as well as keeping an eye on his own team. The Kubica onboard video confirms the mechanic was acting normally.
On the BBC, Eric Boullier said the mechanic admitted that he just assumed Sutil was going past and not pitting. Its an easy mistake and was waiting to happen to be honest (plus the afforementioned madness going on).
I think a fine for both teams is fair, mistakes are made but even so, teams should be careful. On the other side though, the rules and technology involved needs looking at as was dicussed on the BBC Forum. Perhaps bringing in technology which stops the cars launching from the pits if a car is within a certain zone and when wheels arent properly attached.
