It took a full 30 minutes before Hamilton got the drive through. Just enough time to build a lead big enough to be able to retain his second place...

I'd love to see Vettel somehow hand the win over to Hamilton, just to fuel Alonso's anger even more. Based on how he sounded over the radio, he would probably explode.

Don't you know? it's Alonso's throbbing blood pressure that powers his Ferrari. There's a reason he's so much faster than Massa.

Taking "express delivery" to a whole new level.

If you make me laugh one more time before this race is over, juice is going to come out of my nose.

I think Vettel's tires are leaving him now. I doubt he will pit again, but Hamilton will be right on his tail in the last few laps.
And Button will be right with them both. Button will just be cruising round behind Kobayashi, looking after his tyres, and Button is currently only 7 seconds behind Hamilton.

Still... can they actually make anything happen on this track? Maybe if they were bunched up behind the backmarkers, but will they come up to lap them again before the end of the race?

Well, now, everyone in the top 10 apart from Hamilton, Vettel and Alonso are under investigation for exceeding the D-time behind the safety car - with potential for post-race penalties (+20 to 30s, grid penalty for the next race).

Probably time for Hamilton to pull in the reins? Sure, he's forced Vettel to go back to full pace... but I doubt anything can be done in the next five laps.

^ I agree, Hamilton can't catch him now, realistically.

Is it against the rules to pit on the last lap, or is there some rule in place that means they have to use a compound for at least one full lap?

Because Kobayashi could save himself a bit of time by pitting on the final lap. He'll cross the finish line in the pits.

EDIT: I spoke too soon, he's just pit now. 9th place, not bad at all :) And now he's going after Alonso.

Maybe the BBC commentators will stop slating him now...

EDIT2: He just took Alonso

LMAO he took Buemi aswell. 7th place, and the cars infront are under investigation. Podium for a Sauber maybe?

Kobayashi will need an armed escort out of Valencia after that...

Oooh... took Buemi, too!

So, 1 & 2 are set. Just need to wait for the FIA to decide who they want in 3rd...

Scratch whatever I said before, because Kobayashi just got into 7th place and that's championship point position!! Was a race full of entertainment... Indeed Alonso is going to exceed the boiling point

Congrats Seb, Hammy and Jenson. Well deserved podium and victory. Dissapointed with Webber, everything happening in this race. Penalties coming up, cracker++ !!!

So, that's Germany 1 up over England, now switching over to the world cup thread for part 2...

OMG Kobayashi is the very definiton of badass! I hope they give him the 3rd because he deserves it. On the other my man Lewis drove an amazing race as well, to bad the Fia took the winning chance away from him just becouse the Safety car driver made a mistake... unfair IMHO!

Can a top team please sign up kobayashi already.

Perhaps a bit too early for that, but he did show his talent yet again with a car that finally decides to co-operate with him. My personal drive of the race, that's for sure 👍

World Cup? Wozzat? :dopey: Thought Germany were out, too...

Awesome passings by Kobayashi.

To be fair to the guys... Kobayashi did have fresh tires...

Lewis made the mistake. He boggled when the safety car came through the pits... couldn't decide whether to overtake where it was legal, and ended up passing the safety car anyway... after the safety car line. Not really Lewis's fault, but rules are rules.

Didn't really change his race much. He might have been able to push Vettel earlier... but the RBR held up to the end of the race, and given the track, there's no way he could have seriously overtaken him, anyway.

To be fair to him, he made the passes. Schumacher didn't get past Alonso at Imola. Mansell didn't get past Senna at Monaco. Yes, Kobayashi had the tyres but he still made the moves and made them stick.

Good win for Vettel. Car and driver fault free today.

Hamilton's penalty was silly. He didn't do anything wrong other than hesitate. Kobayashi rendered the punishment meaningless since it didn't cost him a position and it messed up what could have been a great fight between Vettel and Hamilton to the flag.

Outstanding work by Kobayashi with two late moves, he may end up on the podium because of that. Someone in a top team please sign him up.

Alonso is a big baby and clearly needs a new dummy.

Webber. You are one luck boy today.

Buemi had a worn car and brake problems. Myabe Kobayashi would have taken him otherwise... but it's not a sure thing.

Alonso, though... I'll give that to Kamui. He pressured him into a mistake and took the place fair and square.

Whichever way it goes, I'm a fan... Kobayashi did a terrific job today... after his amazing debut last season, it's been kinda quiet on the front, but it's nice to see his name up there.

Hmmm... 25 second penalties... Kobayashi for podium after the stewards talk it out? :D

Well he's been lucky for 2 times already. If you remember 1999, 11 years ago where he had the exact same crash in the Mercedes CLK GTR in Le Mans. Thank God there was a tyre wall instead of a concrete wall. Thank you to the circuit, and the safety of the car nowadays...

Yes, I remember that one. I especially like how cool he was about it afterwards.

Jezus! Why the hell was Kovalainen defending like that against a car 3 seconds a lap quicker? That certainly was not necessary. 👎
I’m very glad Webber is ok.

Fox, you and I aren't friends right now! A delayed broadcast for a race as good as this? Good thing Webber is ok, but he is going to have to do some serious damage control and be perfect these next few races. Hopefully I'll get to see those live! Although, Fox does have two more races to air, so maybe not!:grumpy:

It's called racing. If you're racing for position, why would you GIVE away a place? Kovi didn't know Webber would nerf his rear-end so had every right to defend!
