2010 Singapore Grand Prix

Lewis was ahead, from the onboards. Just not ahead enough to warrant turning in that sharply on Webber.

I don't think it was the actual contact between Webber and Hamilton that put Hamilton out of the race. I think it was that second bump on the right curb that did it. Those curbs on this track are brutal.

Doubtful... but all the Dukes-style driving Hamilton did over the curbs all race couldn't have helped his suspension's durability come the contact.

Lewis was ahead

If he had the inside line then yes I would say he's ahead but because he was on the outside and only half a car length in front then there is no way he could be considered 'in front of Webber'

"The onus is on the driver performing the overtake to avoid contact", That is read out in every drivers briefing I've ever been to.

12:30am, time for bed.

Just watched a replay of the webber hamilton crash and I think it was webbers fault. He could see hamilton was ahead. However didn't yeild into the corner and made no attempt not to hit him and ran straight into him. Hamilton had overtaken at that point and it was webber overtaking hamilton into that corner and it is the person overtakings responsibility to not cause an accident.

I did the same as webber once in a kart race and didn't yeild and I got in trouble for it. Webber saw Hamilton was ahead but went in to hot on the brakes into a space that obviously wasn't going to exist to much longer expecting hamilton to yeild however hamilton had no reason to yeild because:
A. He had the racing line.
B. He was ahead of Webber at the time.

Damn it tree'd by everyone.

Great race! I expect to see Vettel and Alonso going for the win at Suzuka too. Kubica was fun to watch :dopey:

Ugh, SPEED Channel. We don't care about NASCAR! Show the Post race press coverage already!

Webber's fault.Hamilton had the line, gave him more than enough room(he turned 2 metres from the apex) and also was more than half car lenght in front.(Web hit him on the rear wheel)

If Red Bull's continue like this(taking one mclaren out every other race) the constructor's is theirs.Good strategy:tup:

Vettel,''Fernando is faster than you.''

McLaren should've pitted Hamilton when Webber started to get the tyres working to keep position. Seems like they assumed Webber would struggle late on and Lewis would pass him or just left it too late.

Just heard Whitmarsh but the gap started to favour Webber before and they should've covered it.

Yeah. I'm disappointed about this as well.

I guess America's national racing series is more important than the world's best racing series.

While this is true, in racing, the guy in front has priority for the corner. Always. Lewis was ahead. Whether it was by a length or half-a-length, he was ahead.

He left enough room for Webber to make the apex and not hit him. That's avoiding contact. Unfortunately, Lewis went in a bit tight, Webber went in a bit wide, they touched. Still... it wasn't Webber's fault... just a plain racing incident.

Hamilton had the line,

Webber had the line. Hamilton was half a car length in front. Webber knew this all along but anticipated by keeping the inside line so that he could re-overtake Lewis in the corner. Makes perfect sense. Except for the fact that Hamilton was expecting Webber to simply back off, which of course he won't. Hamilton clipped the apex, so there was no more room for Webber to give. He already was riding the inside curb, is he supposed to drive into the wall to not hit Hamilton?

Racing incident, simple like that.

I don't like how NASCAR takes priority over everything else on SPEED.

Oh rubbish, I don't want to wait until the race is re-aired to see the full post-race coverage.

Sorry, but Webber was at fault. From Marc's onboard he had no chance of keeping his position with the line Hamilton was taking even with the room he was given so he wouldn't have to cut the corner. Which he was heading almost straight into the apex/curbing. Enter the Kubica pass on Sutil; however, Sutil was using his head and corrected his line. The same move at the same corner! Come on folks! This screams that Hamilton had a legit move on Marc.

Untill that moment, if Hamilton lost the title I was rooting for Webber to pull a Button and finally win a Championship being a good driver in a great car after so many years. But this kind of blatant disregard for getting passed is just bad form. Webbers defencive capabilities on track are known; he's no easy meat. However, once passed, in his first year to actually win the title, by the guy favored to win it, with a handfull of races left, he punts him. As fond as the stewards/FIA are/is at handing out penalties I'll be truly shocked if they don't see the Kubica/Sutil pass and put one and one together. *sighs*

You are right he didn't have the line,i don't know why i wrote that.

But he didn't clip the apex at all..i don't know where you saw that...

Webber's 100% fault, and he got away with it: as usual, FIA is a bunch of sissies 👎

Everything you just said is completely wrong.

:rolleyes:Naturally...

It's obvious neither Webber nor Hamilton was going to yield in that situation so a collision was inevitable - that's part of racing. It could have easily been a race ending collision for Webber as well.

From my point of view, it was a little Mark's fault there. He might just be too optimistic to keep on the inside and passing Lewis but instead it all went really wrong. Hamilton was nearly half a car length in front but he left a bit of too less space for Mark. 50:50, both made mistakes, as simple as racing incident. Same as Michael and Nick's incident that is just plain racing incident. It certainly looks like Hamilton's championship chance might be over but he needs to keep it clean for the next 4...

Nice showing by Fernando and Sebastian. They both running tremendously well until the battle rages on the last lap. Not bad too Kubica giving us more entertainment passing Nico (Hulkenberg), Felipe and Adrian. Did he got a puncture that sent him into a pit lane?

Sad ending for Kobayashi, I was hoping to see him scoring more points this race but he may just misjudge a little there, colliding the wall and Bruno collected him. Was scary Heikki driving the flaming car, the cause could possibly due to the spin he had with Sebastien (Buemi) where he might over-rev and putting stress on the engine and gearbox. He was a fireman for a while :D

That's it, heck of a great race that was. Suzuka next...

OK, all I can really say is I need to see it again. I'm sure I saw what I saw, but I'm human. Looking at it again will definatly shed more light in these eyes.

On a side note:

How can this not be the next pic for the caption contest? Unfortunately, it seems to write itself, really:

Am I the only one that thinks neither Webber or Hamilton were to blame? Webber couldn't have done anything differently, and Hamilton (who maybe could have left more room if you're being super critical) didn't know quite where Webber was going to come up the inside.

Just one of those things, not every incident has to be someones fault. This isn't InjuryLawyers4U.

The circuit needs work. Get rid of the pointless chicanes in the final sector so the cars run along the waterfront flat out, and get rid of the two corners after turn seven; go around the war memorial instead.

Isn't that what they plan to do next year, anyway? (I recall talk about removing some chicanes and going around the War Memorial...)

Why does Weber get away with this collision, but with Vettel's incident at Spa, which was even more of an "accident, no one's fault" imo, Vettel got a drive through?

That was entirely Vettel's fault. Vettel lost control of his car and crashed into another, entirely innocent, car. How is that not his fault? Button did nothing to cause that accident.

According to technical analysis Webber's front left would have deflated after another 0.5 miles.

I don't think they should remove the controversial chicane, but they should at least make those kerbs less violent. From some of the on board footage there you can see a lot of G's being put onto the driver as they go over the kerb, so why not make it more driver-friendly and lessen the size of them?

I feel really bad for Lew. I think it's Mark's fault because Lewis was ahead of him and I think Mark should let of the thortle a bit ...

Go job from Alonso but it was obvious that Red Bull was better, Vettle could easily push more throtle and force Fernando to make a mistake.

Stupid Saubers :)

Not good race for Schumi, obviously he still have problems with car ... hope next year Merc makes better car.
