2010 Singapore Grand Prix

That was entirely Vettel's fault. Vettel lost control of his car and crashed into another, entirely innocent, car. How is that not his fault? Button did nothing to cause that accident.

He lost control indeed but not on purpose. Mark should brake a bit and let Lew pass him because evidently he was faster than him. Did Lewis do anything to cause that accident? No, he was ahead of Mark, Mark was the one behind him raming into Lewis. Anyway ... it is what it is.

Lewis should`ve been more careful, he just saw the oportunity and took it without realising that Mark wouldn`t slow down. By the time they got to the curve I knew Ham was doomed, you can`t expect mercy from someone who would take his own teammate out in order to win a race.

 True. True.

Funnily enough I've always thought that the point of racing is trying to finish ahead of the others no matter if they're faster or not. Faster cars are let past when being lapped, not when fighting for positions.

looking forward to the race, I've never seen a night race (new to F1). too bad I can't watch it until tuesday afternoon :indiff:

Then perhaps you shouldn't have been in this thread then. 💡

Hope next year Merc makes better car.

Their car isn't that bad. Rosberg is still relatively consistent as well, it's definitely not all about Schumi.

Well this has sucked, I had a driving lesson today so I missed two hours of the coverage so thought I will watch it on iplayer I waited 4 hours for it to come on and it bloody didn't, so I settled for the highlights which I strongly dislike doing, I find it really annoying without any pre-race build up and full commentary it just annoy me, then to watch the race which was, yeah exciting but dissapointing as both my guys went out(Koba & Lewis) Lewis going out looked a bit of Webbers fault IMO it looked like he just wouldn't give and clattered into him, which I may believe has ended Lewis chances unless he wins 4 out of four but its unlikely.

how fast has this season gone though?
And kubica good overtaking today HIGH FIVE!!

Coming in after the replay, fantastic (utterly fantastic) drive by Alonso, took the position right from the start and kept it. Fantastic drive from Vettel as well, he made a minor flopsy but nothing worth looking into, a couple of drivers make that same mistake. He finally seems to be learning and if he can keep this up for the remaining four events (and onwards of course) then it's about time. :D

Enjoyed the race to absolutely no end: collisions, sparks, fire, close racing, Kubica kicking absolute arse. Might be the best race all season thus far. Shame what happened to Hamilton though, and after I just told him to take it easy, he goes and becomes 'Captain Courageous'. It looked like Webber's fault at first, then it looked like Hamilton's own fault but after seeing it fifteen times the Stewards made the right decision by not penalizing either one of them. Also, unless I've overlooked his name all season long, when the hell did Heidfield come back? :odd:

He came back friday and is here to the end.

Had I not forgotten to watch a little bit of the practice sessions, or hadn't missed qualifying I'd know that. :p

That's awesome though, glad to see him back in action.

... for costs of crashing into someone? Really?

So, your idea is to (and correct me if I'm wrong) let a faster car pass by you when you can fight for the position, but because it's faster, let the car pass you and as a result be criticized by the media, fans, pretty everyone under the sun...and then be yelled at by your team?

mark webber drives like a kid playing gran turismo 👎

Miss the shift key much?

And, can you do better? I sure as hell know I can't...

Webber sure is a lucky dog to have made it home in 3rd with his tire basically hanging onto the rim somehow :scared:  That bit of luck and good fortune could very well win him the Championship in the end.

Correct me if I am wrong. So you are saying it is okay, even if you are slower, to crash into someone, ruin someones race just to be better?

Sometimes you have to admit if someone is faster than you. Not to be stubborn and destroy everything around you. You are saying that Glock should crash into Webber when he overtook him? Because from my point of view I saw he didn't blocked him or try to close his line. You see sometimes you just have to admit someone is better than you, let it go and hope next time you'll beat him.

That's the Ferrari school of thought - I prefer my drivers to battle it out, collision or no collision. There's a difference between racing and punting someone a'la Schumacher which Webber clearly didn't do.

Of course - You don't run/own a Formula 1 team either, so easier said than done.

Just watch it again:

Lewis already passed him. Mark was behind him. So Mark's job was to get postion back. Ramming into Lewis? I mean what??? If you cannot pass him fairly try another time not crash into someone. I would really like to see you guys racing. You would kill each other on the track. If you CANNOT overtake someone, dont crash into him! As simple as that.

Are you forgetting that a VR-01 was holding them up? Hamilton took advantage of that but wasn't able to get enough headroom, and Webber was already practically hugging the rumble strip as it was...any closer and he would have been going through the wall. It was an unavoidable collision unless Webber would have just slammed on the brakes, which, would have caused seventeen new problems as a result. No one was at fault here, it was an incident and it's pretty much as simple as that.

Also, I never said you should attempt to purposely wreck someone's car just to get a place, but this is what happens when you're running wheel-to-wheel with someone who wants to win just as badly as you do.

So you are saying Button should try everything he had, even crashing into Alonso at Monza?

And if Lewis, when crashing into Massa at Monza, had caused Massa to end the race and that Lewis was the one continuing racing, were you be saying "well it's racing and not Lew's fault" which evidently was.

F1 is not destruction derby.

Seriously, there's nothing to it. Webber was on the inside and Hamilton on the outside - Hamilton took too an optimistic line expecting Webber to yield and the rest is history.

My response was no more serious than your comment :D
Ouch!;)

I find strange the amount of times Webber gets involved into "racing incidents".

Other than that, it was a surprisingly good race. And Rosberg is really proving he deserves a better car that that.

Hamilton on the subject:
"I'm still not exactly sure what happened with Mark and me," said Hamilton. "But, telling it from my point of view, I saw that he'd made a mistake, and had got caught up with the backmarkers, so I was in position to slipstream him. I was on the outside going into Turn Seven, and he was in my blind-spot, just behind me.

"I thought I'd got sufficiently past him, though. I braked, turned in, and tried to leave enough room for him on the inside – and the next thing I knew I'd got clipped, my tyre was blown, and that was it. But, as the saying goes, I guess that's motor racing."

Wait a minute, hold on...

Did you really just compare a straight that you have to brake from 200mph+ from to a mere incident? 1. Alonso already had a good enough lead over Button into a chicane. What could Button have done? Miss the breaking marker and risk going off-track, which would have resulted in much of the same thing anyway? 2. Yeah, he could have been a bit courageous and tried to stay as close as possible, but again, there's a chicane...he would have (again) risked going off-track and lost the position anyhow. That comparison makes no sense as no one is being held up by a considerably slower car.

"Ramming into Lewis?"

What could Button have done?

He could make a contact with his rear tyres ... you now what comes next.

Well it is what it is so ... nothing can be done now. Honestly our debate also won't make any diference.
