It was tricky because I had to catch him up on the track walk while he was talking to engineers. He walked past and my legs just started carrying me onto the circuit :lol: I had a short conversation asking about top gear and wishing him luck for the weekend. It's barely sunk in!


FP1 now. Track very wet but better grip than expected. Everyone just doing installation lap. How is Ricciardo going to do this weekend?

As many British motor tracks tend to be just a bit of tarmac, some portable bogs and some cones, yeah, I think it matters! :D

Seriously though, I think it matters to an extent, F1 is the biggest motorsport in the world and the tracks have to reflect that. Give the teams somewhere nice to work and they'll be happy, give somewhere for sponsors to enjoy a cucumber sandwich and they'll be happy, give somewhere for the fans to eat, defecate (no, you can't use Bradford), sit and most importantly not a single lane access road and they'll be happy.

Given the money involved, good facilities are a must. If that also means the track can get longer deals and thus we secure a British GP for much longer (until 2017/19 isn't it?).

I'm more than happy to go Drag Racing to Santa Pod and get some average but adequate facilities, as it's only £30, but a GP at Silverstone is what 5 or something times that?

Fair enough then, but I'm of the opinion that silverstone's facilities were adequate, or at least only needing minor changes, but sometimes I don't think of the bigger picture. Take rallying for example. I am happy about the track changes at silverstone though. My least favourite corner still remains though (woodcote).

I'm so jealous. I'm a big Vettel fan. As it happens, I'm going to Toronto Indy this weekend, so I can make do with that, but would much rather be going to a grand prix.
 
I threw a couple of dollars on Ricciardo to get fastest lap lol, you just never know. (it would have been $3 but the machine spat the ticket out since it's 2000:1 odds)
 
Schumi now fastest on track!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know, Ferrari should just say 🤬 it, and get both Schumacher and Barrichello back.

It might seem crazy, but the odds are really good and the money he paid is very little. I put 1 gbp on Sebastien Bourdais to win the 2009 German Grand prix at odds of 3000:1. I lost, but I could easily afford to lose a pound. Funnily enough, he was the first retirement and it was his last Grand Prix, but sometimes in F1, something completely unlikely can happen. Ricciardo most definately will not set fastest lap, but if something crazy happens and he does, I think Rt will be looking quite smart come sunday night.
 
Alguersuari is impressing right now. 4th at the moment, right up with the big guys! I know it's only practice one, but still.

Congrats on getting a pic with Sebastian, Alex! I'm super jelly!

Hopefully I'll have a similar run-in at next year's USGP. :D
 
so kobayashi just wiped out, and I loved how in the onboard cam view, the marshall was still waving a green flag.

So just as I say ferrari should bring back Schumi and Barrichello, they pull out a 2nd and 3rd in the last lap of practice. It was so awesome.

Perez takes a good 4th, something is pulling these teams that never had blown diffusers closer to the front. I wonder what... oh wait, maybe its the new rule that I thought would slow Vettel down.

Although Mark webber did perform outstandingly, but I still don't like Red Bull.

Absolutely pouring down here. Wet FP2 surely.


It's getting heavier. Heaviest rain I've seen in a long time here in Northamptonshire.

New engine maps regs now allow Renault to use their maximum cold blowing map (Which RB used this season) while every other engine manufacturer must change their map to the new FIA regs within the next few hours.

They gave everyone a month to design a new map and allow Renault to prove they did this before the EBD, now Renault proved they did so everyone else has to change it before Saturday.

Right, I'm gonna go ahead and say it.

The Toro Rosso looks way better than the RBR.

I know it's trivial, but I'd really rather spend the race watching the STR livery.
 
So did anything important happen during practice? I couldn't watch it.

I'm hoping for a Mclaren pole, don't know who yet.
 
Sadly guys, I can tell you now that the chance of rain this weekend at silverstone is less than 5%.

Sources: Live in the UK so know what websites are ussualy accurate, and they all say no rain.

On the upside though, it is going to be a lovely weekend, sunny and around 22 degree's.

Twitter is ablaze with the FIA's decision to pedal back the 10% EBD limit to whatever each team was running in 2009... Which means that RBR, Renualt and Mercedes get dispensation. :lol:

Ok, let me see if I have this right. So FIA did not ban blown diffusers entirely but instead allowed 50% of throttle blowing on braking... to protects teams that advanced reliability concerns, namely Renault, Mercedes and RBR?:dunce: Andddd, they may change their mind again in between FP2 and FP3?

It's all a bit of a joke now. "No, its banned". Now, "it's partially banned, for some teams, not others".

RBR wouldn't be making such a stink at the 11th hour if they didnt think they were actually quite badly affected by it, probably worse then thought. Now they have it back in, so they are chuffed as chips, whilst their rivals are back to square one.

And people think Ferrari had the FIA in their back pocket!
