Yeah. He has a lot to learn. It's probably tough being thrown in with the pros and he hasn't driven the car that long.

I am not worrying too much about him battling with the regular DTMs but even if you're fast but always getting spun around by somebody is just ridiculous...

He has been in many kind of cars, has performed well in many others so I think this shouldn't be an exception. He will do well. Give him 2 or 3 races I think he will get up to grip with the car. The only issue he will face is spending some time getting familiar to some tracks that DTM will use this season. I believe he has never driven the Lausitzring so that's one of the track that he has to take his time and learn.

Yes, he is a full time DTM driver.

Once again, thanks Tired Tyres. I just got finished watching the race. A few things to take away:

I was impressed with the clean racing between Paffett, Green, and Ekstrom in the early laps. (Take note RSC)

ALso impressed with the clean racing of DC and his finish after qualifying 18th.

Schumacher disappointed me. That was a dumb move. I don't think he purposefully took out the BMW's like some people seem to claim, but very incompetent. And later on during the race he made some good clean passes which boggles me. He tried way too early.

I wish I would've been able to see Spengler finish the race. It would've been nice to see all three makes have fair chances to compete for the win, and if anyone besides Mercedes wins, I would hope it would be Spengler.

Vietoris is a nice addition to Mercedes. He drove well and clean and went from 15th in quali to a solid 4th place finish.

Although it was in German, I enjoyed it. At times it sounded like Arnold (I know he's Austrian). The only thing that kept bothering me was they always seems to have the driver names and the manufacturers mixed up. It was distracting because I'm still trying to learn some of the drivers and the teams they are on. But other than that, good feed. 👍

I think I'm going to give a nod to Vietoris for a better run than DC, who has many more years of racing experience. Also, I'm going to be the first to say that Vietoris is the next big deal in DTM, unless he gets snatched up as a Test/Reserve/Michael Replacement at Mercedes AMG F1.

At that early stage in the race it looked like Spengler was able to make up a few places, compared to Tomczyk who seemed to be stuck where he was. Has the incident with RSC not taken place I think Priaulx, Spengler and Tomczyk would definatley have finsihed in the top 10, probably with Werner also.

What I was sligtly confused by was the mechanic who seemed intent on disguising the exposed engine of Spenglers car by ripping the car door off (or getting a spare one) and holding it infront of the vehicle!

I would suggest that the guy was covering the badly damaged part of the engine from being exposed to anybody from any competitors because as we all know the engine is pretty much developed by BMW themselves so like Formula One, they won't show what's inside to anybody else ;)

Is it worrying that that relatively minor impact led to a terminal problem and retirement for Spengler, where as Mortara's Audi seemed to run fine even though it had a Joey Hand shaped dent in the front. I hope our cars aren't made of glass.

I'm not sure but the impact could be on the worst place possible on Spengler's car which resulted in BMW retiring his car. If that's not the case, if you remember and if I also remember correctly, there was smoke coming out from the front right of the car as soon as the bonnet flew up in the air. Perhaps something else kaput? Don't know...

But seriously though, since you mentioned glass, all the cars are like that this year. These cars are seriously fragile :scared:

Yea, that "door cover up the engine" bit was a bit odd. I wish I understood German at that scene. But hopefully the impact was just perfect enough to cause irreplacable damage and not that the cars are so fragile. But like already said, Mortara's car looked alot worse, so who knows. I'm hoping to see some kind of statement come out explaining what the damage was, but I doubt it since they are so secretive, and the language barrier won't help either.

I would have said it was steam from the radiator as he was told to watch his temperatures and pressures on the radio, but I still find it suprising the Audi can take a whack like that front and centre and still be okay.

Official statements haven't really given anything away so far.

Bruno Spengler (car number 7, BMW Team Schnitzer, DNF):
"We were having a really good weekend until the crash. I had been able to overtake Adrien Tambay and was going well. Then came the collision. Ralf Schumacher braked too late and drove into Dirk Werner’s car. He took me out at the same time. It is such a shame, as we could have picked up a good result in this race."

Either way, a touring car that can't take a bit of rubbin' is not a very useful touring car.

Hey guys, I was just wondering when and if the itv4 highlights were on, because I missed them, and didnt see them listed:ouch: and by the sounds of things it was a big miss

They are not really touring cars though. They are more like GT cars to me.

Also unlike touring cars if you punt to pass in this series you will get a drive through penalty unless you give to position back.

10:30 AM this Saturday if my memory is working. It was announced at the end of the BTCC coverage when they where saying what would be on in the next few weeks.

Any of you knows a way to watch the race in hd ? Is there any channel or an official site of some sort ?

Maybe so, but in close racing contact is inevitable and the cars should be able to withstand a reasonable impact, I doubt it was any consolation to Bruno that Ralf got a drive through and went on to score points.

Just to confirm that the highlights are on ITV4 at 10:30 AM Saturday. Only 30 minutes though.

Round 2 of the DTM is at Lausitzring this weekend.

Does anyone know if theres a english commentary version of the race i can download or watch somewhere?

I'm really looking forward to watch the 2012 DTM season, but theres no way to watch it live in Brazil. :(

I watched it on www.Justin.tv on Freddy49cup channel (qualy and race) and with a nice quality too... the downside was when Green crossed the finish line (chequered flag) he changed to the WTCC

Oh, thanks mate! I will keep this in mind for this weekend's race. I don't know why but we don't seem to have a coverage for this weekend. Very inconsistent from Astro Supersport :grumpy:

There's nothing wrong with that 'downside' though mate because the racing schedule that night was pretty tight. As soon as the DTM race ended, I also quickly changed to Eurosport to watch the WTCC. I think it's better watching the racing than somebody being interviewed especially when they're talking in German

I caught a repeat on ESPN UK, felt like muting it though as the commentators were horrendous :ouch:

But he could have waited for Filipe albuquerque to cross the finish line in 10th.. I was following his race and didnt know if he had made it into the points or not

^^^Unfortunatly the guy (Ralf) thought he could win the race in the first lap and was braking too late and ran into both (front runner) BMWs

...he didnt even get a penalty and made it into the points was an idiot (Ralf)

Seems like they closed his channel.

I still haven't found an english commented version of the race, but i found this 720p full race on youtube:

EDIT: Found this link for the english one:

PS: for the OP, Audi uses the A5 model and not the A4 ;)
