You mean Dallara have spent the last two years developing the car?

It is a Spec series you know. The only bit BMW do is the bodywork.

Even the engine is a Judd with a BMW badge on it and exactly the same engine with an Audi badge sits in the Dallara with an Audi body on it.

The link up between DTM and GT500 is still on the cards.

Id like to see the source of that info because I find it very hard to believe that they use a Judd engine.

Direct link to podcast.

By the way, why are you surprised if BMW don't make their own engine?

Racing engines tend to be made by specialist engine firms.

Because they supplied F1 (as did mercedes) with engines and because the new DTM reg. are very similar (I think identical from what I could gather) to Super GT and in that series (GT500) Honda uses a Honda engine, Nissan uses a Nissan engine and Lexus uses a Toyota engine.
It makes sence because its a series were they promote the manufacturer.

But Im not saying that you arent right... I just find it hard to believe... Im checking that link now.

EDIT: just listened to the link and what he says is that its a specs series with the same specs (Dallara) chassis, same suspensions, same transmission but with diferent engines (1.02.58) he says he believes the Audi and BMW engines are basicly the same and he believes that Judd has done two of the engines... very vague and hardly factual.

It's certainly true that most racing engines aren't constructed entirely, if at all, by the manufacturer that races them, I think that varies from team to team.. as does chassis construction. But, I would be suprised if a crate turned up from Judd with an engine in it, along with a crate from Dallara with a chassis in it... like I say - I've always wondered.

edit: With regards to F1.. dug this up, think it was taken from BMW literature at the time..

http://scarbsf1.com/BMW_P83/index.html

BMW Munich handles, among other things the manufacture of the crankshaft (steel), camshaft (case-hardened steel) and camshaft covers, as well as processing of the cylinder head and crankcase. The oil system and engine electronics also stem from BMW Munich.

The chassis is the same in DTM and that I already knew... and thanks to Tired Tyres I now know that dallara supplies it to all teams... but the engine is something that I thought was the main flagship of each team...

Well, whoever does the chassis, and whoever supplies them..... still think the BMW M3 DTM is one of the best looking racing cars of all time!

I've been trying to book my tickets for Brands Hatch via BMW ticket-shop (to get some free stuff :D) but it doesn't seem to be working properly at the moment, I can't wait for the UK round, I'm praying that the weather is good and it won't be absolutley heaving - I've got lots of photo's to take :D

It doesn't matter who makes the engine as long as the manufacturer can put their name on it.

Manufacturers are good at making road cars and engines. When they want to race, they turn to specialists. As long as they pay for development then they can badge the engine and everyone is happy.

Good luck with Brands Hatch tickets. It's a great circuit to watch a race.

I was at Brands last year for the race, weather somewhat dampened the day as we were in the car for most of it. The noise of the cars were brilliant, still can't decide if I preferred the growl of the Audi or the "F1 hum" of the Mercedes! Support races didn't overly appeal to me however (open wheel fan) though the length of the races did.

EDIT: Was never off the Brands Hatch schedule, I'm thinking of WTCC instead.

Sorry if this was answered somewhere else, but I can't find any info. does anyone know what channel I can watch these races on in the US? If there is a stream, can I watch it after the actual race? It's hard for me to be able to log on for the exact race time. In the past, all I've been able to do is watch a few of the videos on the dtm website and some on youtube. But they aren't the entire races. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Even though my favorite driver has jumped ship, I'm still supporting Mercedes! Seems like I'm the only one with the addition of BMW. :)

I'm having trouble finding any of the good race series in the US - DTM, FIA GT Champoinships, V8 Supercars, etc. I see a race here and there on Speed, but not nearly enough to follow a season. Thanks again guys!

If you're lucky, you can watch it at Speed2.com. Otherwise, you get to wait until the winter and they show the full season then on Speed TV. FIA WTCC, BTCC, and DTM in addition to the FIA GT Championship are all shown then. V8 Supercars is on within one or 2 days of the event taking place on Speed.

Vietoris, Wickens and Merhi fill the last three Mercedes seats:

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/98556

As we’ve seen in the past, both Robert Wickens and Roberto Merhi have been pretty competitive in their respective series, but their careers have been stymied by a lack of sponsor dollars. With Mercedes having supported Michael Schumacher (who will mentor Wickens) early in his career, and promoting Paul di Resta from DTM to Formula 1, I wonder if they are planning the same with Wickens and/or Merhi (and/or Vietoris) …

I seem to remember Vietoris being the "Best of the Newcomers" last year. He also did semi-decent in GP2 if I remember correctly.

Thank you very much. I will try Speed2 or keep scouring the internet for something when they start. I was hoping that they will show the DTM in the U.S. this year since they will be adding the series over here in 2013. Maybe try to get some exposure and start building a fan base, but it doesn't seem that way. :indiff:

This german site (http://www.sportschau.de/sp/) has broadcasting rights to stream DTM live everywhere. Completely legal last year and presumably it will happen again this year. They dont store replays. YOu can only watch the events live and then they are gone from the web. The link appears on raceday

Did I hear and see right that ITV4 will be showing the DTM? Just highlights I assume. But is this a one-off or is it for the full season?

I'm going to be honest, last night was the first I had heard that Joey hand will drive in DTM, looking forward to seeing how he'll perform:tup:

Same here:tup: But I'm more interested in seeing how Hand will perform.

Looks like DTM is pretty popular outside of germany for some reason :D

No doubt that the entry of BMW has turned DTM for me certainly from a boring procession to a serious and intense bragging rights motorsports series. Im a BMw fan though. I wanna see them win. Drivers wont be the problem if they dont take the championship this year...

26th of August in Zandvoort. Nice. I'll be there.

I was supposed to be at Brands Hatch, but I've got a 🤬 business trip to the US instead, so I'll miss the coverage of the N24 also... 🤬

Anyway..

Qualifying..

http://dtm.livetiming.de/

Man it 🤬 me of not being able to watch anything live!

<cough> http://www.justin.tv/freddy49r#/w/2992510304/2 </cough>

edit: Damn the M3 DTM is sexy.. :D :D

edit 2: I just realised my 2000th post marked the start of BMWs first season back in DTM, sweet.
