Wow even with the issue Hamilton didn't have to worry...nice.

Hamilton looked the most comfortable in the wet. Fastest in Q2 and right there in Q1.

YES HAMMY!

Roll on the race now!

Surprised to see the Red Bull so close to pole. Doubt they'll manage that pace throughout the race though.

That's great don't have much worth in Bruno, guess it's better than Davidson since he can't properly pass GTE cars without them going off track. Also it's not dry weather the lock up isn't going to be massive the car was sliding through that corner and slammed hard into Alonso.

Hill says a lot of things so that's great I guess, I can see it as an incident in the least but not any where near Alonso's fault you can see the onboard. How was Fernando suppose to see behind him? We saw how big the rooster tail was from Daniil's angle, and Fernando was making the turn as DK made his choice not to run into the back of him but the side. Also Sky showed a similar clip of Fernando doing the same thing to Daniil but backing out because he knew what would happen if he did the same, so that's more proof of who was wrong than Damon Hill.
I'm not sure if qualifying should be judged differently than the race. If it was a race i'd be 100% behind blaming Alonso because he did turn in on Kvyat. But acting this aggressive during a qualifier seems a bit reckless.

Either way lets wait and see what stewards have to say(it is under investigation right?).

You still don't get it, how can he see a driver coming in such conditions, you've completely ignored that and ignored that Alonso did the same move to the same driver prior in the session and backed off and turned to the outside. You have rather just said, "well I think Alonso is to blame (I don't like him/or I don't like people blaming the poor new guy) and thus Daniil did nothing wrong". At least I can see it being an incident due to the conditions at play, however since I've watched this racing for a long time usually these types of incidents in this condition are the fault of the passing car not the one being passed.

If it rains perhaps, I'm not at all surprised by this pace because they have one of the best downforce packages on the grid and it's power that they lack. In these conditions they don't need to have power like dry conditions and thus they can easily fall back on their drivers and down force to help move them up the grid. However, if it is dry tomorrow, I don't see them having a chance against the faster more powerful cars, MGP will walk away from them in dry.

Only saw Q3 whilst I was checking some E-Mails... The Mercedes Engined Cars do seem to be performing well! What did surprise me is to see the Williams Cars so far down the Grid Order - as there was many talks about them performing well during testing! Still, time to turn the F1 off and go back to BTCC! :P

Williams chose the wrong tyres in Q2. They still have the outright pace though. I expect to see them both cutting their way through the field come the race.

Why is it relevant what Alonso did previously. A an aggressive move might be stupid during qualifier but that doesn't make it illegal. If Alonso was looking in his mirrors he had plenty of time to react and avoid the collision.

Also "i've been watching racing for a long time" is a hilarious argument to try and use after trying to discredit Hill, Brunno and Davidson.
Tsk tsk.

I have to agree. I think he was going slow enough to not have rooster tails obscuring his view

Williams were strong during testing and are strong at the moment but need work, what no one can really gauge other than theory and these first few runs is who has the best rain package. That is something they hardly tested during the winter.

I'd agree with you if there wasn't an in car video from Daniil's car showing Alonso's roster tail that obscured both views.

The corner is so slow and Alonso missed the apex anyway. He had plenty of time to react up until the very end.

Oh really? Fair enough, didn't see that. I didn't see any onboard from Alonso's car though either. I still maintain he was going slow enough to see him at the point of turn in.

I agree. Also it looked like Alonso was taking a wide line from his positioning on entry and wasn't trying to hit the apex. I don't blame Kvyat for ceasing seizing an opportunity to not be right behind another car in qualifying.

What's a hilarious argument, considering it wasn't experience that I was relying on but moments from that experience and as such I gave you an example. Now if I had said "I've been watching F1 for 20 years thus I probably know better than you" and that was all then I could see your claim of irony. However, that wasn't the case so don't get caught up in semantic and think it's one up.

It's relevant because it is an nearly the same situation. Also who said anything about aggressive moves being illegal? Alonso probably did look in the mirror, how do you know he didn't? Don't just go off of Hill's theory and then think it's absolute he is watching the same images as us and theorizing he isn't full proof. And I'm not saying I am either, obviously.

So basically your claim is that he should have turned right last minute? Cause that gif shows on obvious rooster tail. Also Alonso was on a cool down lap hence his "missing the apex".

Yeah looks like Alonso gave plenty of room, the lock up as I said and the hydroplaning slid him up into. Alonso didn't turn down as much as you seem to be claiming watch the video.

Judging from that there's no way Alonso couldn't see Kvyat had he looked in his mirrors. There's barely any rooster tail from his car at that point.

The video I posted once again proves there was a rooster tail, I will admit that Alonso probably saw him as he started his turn in and seems to have given room but didn't expect him to not have the car under control.

It wasn't even that bad an accident, they tapped each other, a bit of bodywork came off and that was it. What's all the fuss about?

A reasonably dull quali session (excluding the incidents) thanks to the rain, Q3 especially so. Hopefully it stays dry tomorrow.

Also @GTPorsche how in the name of all that's holy would Vettel be able to get a Caterham (or one of the other back markers, Marussia perhaps) to the front row if he couldn't even take pole in his Red Bull?!? Use common sense please.

Indeed there was but at the point Kvyat starts to move left on the straight it wasn't bad enough to not see the car behind him. However, after watching that gif over and over, he may have been so far over to the left of Alonso that he was in the Ferrari's blind spot. Hence Alonso turned into him.

That's a good point I didn't think of that, and since the drivers sit lower this year than last it is probably even worse.

As you say, it was reasonably dull. There's no fuss, just people discussing one of the few real events of the session.

Indeed.

Yeah that was a very boring quali compared to last weekends in the rain. I think the main issues was it started so late and then we had all these boring incidents that slowed it down.

I believe Williams are the only top team out there this weekend without any new parts on their cars .

Also they have been poor in the wet as we saw in Australia , car just doesnt have enough rear end grip / downforce.

Hope the race is dry and I hope next qualy is dry too .

Hulkenburg is still the most impressive driver in the field IMO , if he ever gets a top team drive he will be a world champion or at least come very close to one

What were the teams trying to accomplish by using intermediate tires? The conditions didn't seem nearly good enough. Were they just trying to get a feel for the performance of the two different types in the rain? Would this likely not have happened later in the season?

In Button's interview he said that he would have probably qualified 8th on full wets, so he thought he didn't have much to lose and tried the inters in the hope that something would happen. He's done it before and it's worked, today it didn't.
