but Road America would be un-freakin-real!! If they updated the facilities, increased the run-off after some of the hard breaking zones (and The Kink!), and maybe cut the forest back a bit in a few places, I think it could maybe work? It's probably one of those that would have to change so much that it would lose its character.

I think the FIA already has their fair share of butchered tracks.

They should just call the session and do whatever they do when they don't have a qualy (It would be neat if they made the grid by a raffle though :p)

I don't at all! It's more of a pipe dream than an actual wish :lol:

Spectator and pit facilities aside, I more wish F1 cars were more capable of handling Road America, as opposed to Road America being able to handle F1 cars....if that makes any sense.

I agree though, it's stupid when a track gets reconfigured just to meet F1 requirements.

I don't know how to begin changing it, or if it's even possible anymore, but I think it's a real shame that F1 cars have developed in a direction which basically prevents them from racing on many incredible tracks.

....fastest cars in the world, but only across a ginormous parking lot :rolleyes:

Would Road America work if they installed safer barriers where concrete is and put tec pros in the runoff areas?

I would think it would be better at least, but Road America wouldn't be able to afford it.

I really would love to see F1 and other big and popular series race at Road America - but only if the track stays as it is. It's one of my favourite tracks around the world and I really would hate to see it getting ruined for no real reason. Indycars luckily will go back to Elkhard Lake in 2016 so I don't really see a problem why the F1 can't go there too? The track is bumpy, but I'm sure if they would just raise the cars for this race it would be fine for F1 cars. And the "best" drivers in the world surely should manage to get around the track without having 1km tarmac right next to them.

There's also school buses on track. And workers are trying to dig a ditch with a small digger. Perhaps they'll try to drain the track into the Gulf of Mexico.

It's because F1 has higher safety standards than Indycar, the ladder can race on FIA grade 3 circuits (Road America is a grade 2 to my knowledge) F1 will only host a GP on grade 1.

Not a chance, they are just running out the clock so the COTA people can say we did everything we could do.

I think the biggest and maybe only problem would be The Kink and if the FIA really would have a problem with it they could just install a chicane right in front of it to slow the cars down. Just like they did it with the Tamburello corner at San Marino.
 
IndyCar can actually race as far down as grade 3 circuits, though it rarely happens. NOLA was classified as grade 3 (I believe) and the Brasilia track they were headed to was classified as grade 3. But IndyCars have the ability to race on any paved circuit. It's how and why they were designed the way they are. F1 obviously can't do that.

Exactly. In all brutal honesty, Monaco, under FIA's track standards, is Grade 3. But because it's Monaco, it's an exemption to the rule.

Anyways, can we just use FP3 results as starting grid, please? I find it amusing that Hulkenberg would be on the front row. And that there are nothing but Renaults and Mercedes in the top 10, yet "Renault are uncompetitive..."

I believe they just did...or at least that's how it sounded from the NBCSN broadcast.

Edit: Nope not yet. But they are replaying the 2014 race. Heh, slightly more entertaining than watching the crews lose their minds out of boredom. :lol:
