If it stops raining and the wind keeps blowing like it does, the track will be dry in 3 laps. The spray just goes sideways. :lol:
 
The weather is going to get much worse before it gets better. The bulk of the storm hadn't even got over Texas yet.

How is he not black? I mean yeah he's mixed but is most identified black, you know like how Obama isn't full Black but he's identified as such. And what's unfortunate about him being a WDC?

He's mixed race, not black. The "unfortunately" was aimed at PM's World Champion comment, personally I think Hamilton deserved the championship because he scored the most points.

I know he's mixed race, but people are ignorant and at first glance wouldn't know that. I know this from personal experience thus it's easier to identify as such because in the end who cares.

Also I think Lewis deserves the championship because of getting the most points and because he's a great driver. As for PM's irrationality on certain drivers because they're talked up by people or media, I just learn to ignore that.

Fair point, but that doesn't make him black.

Moving on... his FP3 lap was a hell of a display, if it turns out to be his Pole lap I'm sure he'll be very proud of it.

And unfortunately, that being the case, we could also forget about VIR (also a great track--probably one of the best in the US), as is Road America. As they're both out in the boondocks too.

VIR is about 60 miles from a major metro area (Raleigh-Durham) that rivals Austin in the amount of tech/biomed/pharma money splashing around. It's an easy daytrip for everyone there. It has an active media market, too. That said, the facilities at the tracks are boondocks/boutique, so someone would need to put tens of millions into them to have a hope of interesting Bernie.
 
What would be left of VIR of it were upgrade to grade 1 status though?

The two best portions of track, namely the Esses and the final sector after the back straight, would need massive paved runoff - which to me, would kill the feel of VIR. It'd probably turn into an Eau Rouge situation where track limits are a joke.

I definitely would love to see money go into VIR so it can attract more world class racing, because the actual ribbon of Tarmac is amongst the best in the world...and as can be see from Fisichella's win in 2014, it can produce some unbelievable racing action.

As much as I would like to see VIR upgraded and improved, I would like to see it preserved as well. There are too few tracks like it left in the world, it needs to be held on to.
 
I'd say I want none of the current U.S. tracks messed with because the whole reason they're a challenge and legendary is because they're the complete opposite of a Tilke design.

Sebring, Watkins Glen, Road America, Laguna Seca, Lime Rock, VIR, Road Atlanta, Mid-Ohio...they'd all be trash if upgraded.
 
I honestly think one Grand Prix in the US is enough. At this moment, there is one mecca for Formula One here, which is how it should be. But, if we are looking in the East US for a GP, Tilke has made another track in Atlanta, Atlanta Motorsports Park I believe, that might be of consideration.

If the track was in the middle of Raleigh-Durham it would even be a hard sell. But an hour or more north? I just can't see it. That said, if they had the money and were willing to pay the sanctioning fee I could imagine it being possible. Although I suppose the main entrance being an unpaved loose gravel road would have to be addressed. :D There can be such a thing as too much character.

Looks like a nice circuit, could work.

A West and then East pair of US GP's would be interesting. It's too bad the New Jersey Grand Prix idea flopped miserably.

How have I not heard of this track before?!?!?!?!?!? When was it built? If Tilke actually is responsible for this layout, my hat's off to him!! This is fantastic :drool:



The elevation change is breathtaking! Almost reminds me of Cadwell Park in a way.

Again though, not sure how suited it is for high downforce single seaters.

Looking at the current conditions, I can't imagine a qualifying session take place today. At best they can do it tomorrow morning, but wouldn't be surprised if they just use the results from FP3.

Need to call it off for the day, it is the logical move to make. Ben Ainslie will be preparing for his F1 debut at this rate
