On this day 15 years ago, Dale Earnhardt lost his life in a wreck on the final lap of the 2001 Daytona 500. He will never be forgotten.

My dad has a model of the C5R that he and Jr. drove in the Rolex 24 just a couple weeks before that fateful day. It's one of his most prized models out of all of the ones he has. It's surreal to see the picture of him and Jr. on the podium at the Rolex 24, and seeing both happy (second in class, fourth overall) a mere two weeks or so before he was killed on the same race track that he was having the time of his life on. My dad deliberately taped every race from there on that year. He flat went nuts when Jr. won the July race at Daytona. That (and Harvick's win a couple weeks after he died) really helped NASCAR heal.

My damn sides.

Add that to the list of crappy paint shemes.

How is it crappy?

Sorry what was the joke again.

His undying hatred for any young driver that drivers a number formally driven by somewhere one else apparently (Dillon in the 3, Elliot in the 24), nevermind the fact that none of them asked for the media to go all ape about them (or the fact that again, the 3 is Richard's number).

Watching Truck Series practice. Rico Abrew.

I'm pretty sure that's not how his name is pronounced, but I guess I shouldn't expect anything else from a bunch of white southerners.

I do wonder what is the proper way to pronounce his name (which by the way was pronounced in similar fashion by the guys at NBCSN when the was in the K&N races).

Maybe that is the proper way to pronounce it, but every other time I've seen someone with that last name, it's been pronounced differently.

The 78 looks like something someone threw together in the last 5 minutes prior to the car being presented

Designers try too hard or don't try at all. :dopey:

They should just all run the bare steel (carbon fibre? Magic racecar material?) cars, would look tons better

Looking forward to duels.

@RACECAR its too simple for me. (78 car)

Simple isn't bad (is better then SNICKERS smearing most of the car). That team is the embodiment of simplicity so that paint scheme is if anything, pretty much fits (along with their traditional, simply matt black paint scheme).

I think the car would look better with contingency sponsors. As is it looks unfinished. I also think a matte blue would have been cool and different

There's no denying how quick Jr's cars are at restricter plate tracks. Seems like nobody else can catch him, and then he just drives around everyone else.

It's a combination of his driving style and Hendrick engineering. Unless they change the package or another team finds something Hendrick hasn't, Superspeedway races are Jr.'s to lose for the forseeable future

Just heard Carl doing an interview and they said something about "did Denny do." Remeinded me of this for some reason. Can't remember exactly, but it's possibly NSFW.

Man, Blaney was doing very well at the end there, high hopes for him; also "Amelia" is bad fast  Jr gonna be a big contender this sunday. Time for duel 2

I was hoping that the race would end clean. Kenseth, JJ, and Truex are pretty much guaranteed to go to backup cars now.

Can someone please explain to me why the 10 car just randomly decided to join the sliding cars in the grass?

Anyway, I've played enough Gran Turismo to know how this was gonna end as soon as people started darting about at the end
