If they come to Aus I'm all for Sydney Motorsports Park, the layout is perfect for these cars and it's in the middle of Sydney so attendance will be good.

Chances are it will be a Street Circuit though.

Mexico city should also be seriously considered, Indy has enough Street courses, a Permanent Race facility wouldn't go a miss.

I know a lot of it has to do with the way Formula 1 is with support series and drivers, but there's a lot of International talent coming to Indycar recently.

If international drivers bring in the spectators and viewers then give them all to Indycar. There's a lot of good stuff going on, but they don't seem to be able to bring in the attendance and ratings.

I think if Indycar would actually bother to race in August, swap out a couple ovals for circuits, and do 2 or 3 more international races that could solve a lot of their attendance and TV rating problems. Of course having a driver rivalry or two wouldn't hurt either since pretty much everyone in the paddock are friends and you pretty much don't see drivers getting properly angry at each other.

Their biggest issue is they keep trying to schedule around the NFL and not their actual competitor NASCAR. On top of that, TV promotion only shows up on the channels that Indycar is on, and I don't think ABC/ESPN ever promote that they air races outside of the Indy 500.

I'll be watching Indycar this year regardless of what else is on at the time of the races.

Papis and Luyendyk are some awesome choices for that position! Have no idea who that Dan Davis guy is, but he looks like he's got some pretty good credentials from what I'm seeing.

The problem is that Indycar keep thinking themselves as small, when in fact they are one of the top 3 North American championships (WSCC, NASCAR and Indycar). They need to stop selling themselves short and be a little bold. They've got fantastic racing, fantastic cars, fantastic drivers, good officiating and FANTASTIC safety crews. All they need to fix is the front office decisions.

Agreed!!!!!

Its understandable due to circuit safety why they go to a lot of the same ovals as Nascar, but they could get rather experimental with where they have road course races, if you can reach a crowd that is somewhat isolated from the rest of the North American motorsports scene then that will automatically attract fans, and possibly convert fans over, a lot of the most successful events outside of the Indy 500 for Indycar are events held at places where neither Nascar nor sports car racing go, spread the love!

Places like Imola, Mugello, Magny-Cours, all of which would be good tries.

Good choices, but places closer to home like the humble Portland come to mind, I'm not sure where the nearest circuit to that in which Nascar, IndyCar or IMSA go to,

I'm just thankful they haven't gone into full gimmick mode like NASCAR has.

I really wish they would just back off a little and let the racing speak for itself since I'm guessing that's what did it in the late 80's and early 90's.

It sounds like they are looking at somewhere overseas, so places like Portland, Brazil or Mexico probably aren't being considered for the non-points event at least.

I think a track in Europe would be the best option as you would still be on at a decent time in the U.S. Australia and Japan wouldn't be as suitable as they would be on at very odd hours in the states.

Portland isn't an option primarily because it's in North America, and Portland seems like a place that would have more hassle getting approval than Boston.

I doubt it. :sly:

The only issue I can see the coming into is the usual noise restrictions.

I'd love to see them back at Surfers Paradise. Imola would be awesome But I guess this is about the Middle East wanting a round non championship rounds can only be a short term thing. CART used to run till November get back to the glory days ASAP.

Seeing quality drivers like Felix Rosenqvist and Dean Stoneman is fantastic for lights.

Can I just ask what is WSCC is that TUSCC new name?

The land of my people like things that make loud noises, unlike the wimps in Boston. :sly:

Why not Brands Hatch, and not just the short Indy circuit? Or even Donington...

Rockingham could be a good choice too if the road courses can't cut it.

I'm talking more about a calendar restructure entirely,

International events could be held at Dubai, Nurburgring, Nordschleife :sly: Paul Ricard, Misano,

But I guess this is about the Middle East wanting a round

I'm not so sure about that as they tried it a couple years ago and it fell through. Who knows if they even want to entertain the idea again.

I reckon if they bring it back a week, the Surfers Paradise would be perfect. Since Bathurst is the same weekend as what Indycar have proposed, any race in Australia would get a crowd of hardly anyone. If they do bring it back a week, then the facilities from the Indycars can be kept around for the V8Supercar race the week later.

Surfers' Paradise isn't possible. In the time since Indycar left, the Queensland government built a light rail network through the area. It goes south down Surfers' Paradise Boulevard, following the route of the old circuit. The only option would be to follow the current circuit, but it's probably too short - and besides, Indycar outgrew the circuit years ago. Plus, V8 Supercars has worked pretty hard to turn the Gold Coast 600 into a marquee event ever since the A1GP fiasco, so I doubt that they would like to see Indycar return.

If Indycar were to return to Australia, it would have to be at Eastern Creek or Philip Island, or at Tailem Bend, Toowoomba or the new Bathurst sprint layout if and when they get built.

Yeah surfers is gone, Bathurst could work maybe have it the week before the 1000.

Bathurst could work
Pretty much everything from the Cutting to Forrest's Elbow would be out of the question. The proposed sprint circuit might work, though; the city has been talking up the idea of a MotoGP race, so I imagine that other international series would be on the cards, too.

I was talking about the sprint version, the full is easily unsuitable.

Wow Stoneman and Rosenqvist will raise the profile of Indy lights. I hope more of the races will be televised this year compared to the past few years.

Also, I must have missed it but is PIR under some noise restriction law now and that is why IndyCar can't return? That's too bad if so.

Thanks for the link that was interesting. So those regulations were put in place in 1989 and they raced there until 2007. I don't think the noise would be an issue, especially since the current cars are quieter. Anyway, they probably won't race there anytime soon.
