Well I'm damn sure that more then confirms survival

Wait, that was your problem? Why didn't you just say that instead of just calling it "Appalling safety standards"? That's literally the only problem with the corner and that by far does not warrant a chicane, just a wall less prone to killing you.

Also, Daytona? Pretty there are SAFER Barriers on the banking and a mix of Guard rail and tire barriers on the infield, not Concrete.
I was talking about the pre-Kyle Busch accident state of the walls.

Yes, I live under a rock. I follow racing, not people. ;)

Honestly, I do names about as well as oil does water. Good to see all is well.

My point really goes back to the question of "Is racing safe ENOUGH to be okay with what is available at the races where we are going?"

And the answer is yes. To the extent that traveling (well) over 100 mph in ANY venue is safe. ;)

Mexico likely off until 2017. http://motorsports.nbcsports.com/20...o-16-races-expected-on-2016-indycar-schedule/

Confirmed

3/13 St.Pete
4/2 Phoenix (likely)
4/17 Long Beach
4/24 Barber
5/14 Indy GP
5/29 Indy 500
6/4-5 Detroit
6/11 Texas

6/26 Road America
7/9 Iowa (likely)
7/17 Toronto
7/23 Milwaukee (rumored) State fair runs from 8/4-8/14 so either here or 8/21 or 8/28
7/31 Mid-Ohio
8/21 Pocono maybe? or Gateway
9/4 Boston
9/18 Sonoma

Miles said 16 races over 15 weekends. That means Toronto remains a single event sadly, but almost guarantees Phoenix will be on. 16 races around the 100th Indy 500 seems so devoid, it's heartbreaking.

Yeah, it should be around 18 venues now...

That's actually pretty close to the size of ye Olde CART schedule before "The Split", actually. The difference is that it's 16 races spread between February and August/Early September instead of 16 races between March & October...

Also sad that there won't be a race in Mexico, but on the other hand if they could get Phoenix & Gateway I would be pleased.

Some massive missed opportunities. They pulled Sonoma beyond Labor Day, which means either the whole early end idea's slowly being trashed, but they still missed Auto Club, and nothing outside the US and Canada for the 3rd straight year. Auto Club, Cleveland, Mexico City, to name a few. Phoenix and Gateway doesn't seem to be worth missing those to me.

I'm now taking all of the international race talk with a grain of salt. Indycar management might as well keep their mouth shut instead of spewing possibilities until they can 95% guarantee the race happening -Brazil was 95% until the government shut the door, which wasn't Indycar's fault-.
But hey, it's not as bad as emperor Bernie with Argentina, New Jersey, Greece, Thailand, Long Beach, France, South Africa, and many more.

No promoter=no race. Take the time to get it right and open 2017 in Mexico.

14 spots are taken leaving Milwaukee, Pocono, and Gateway all likely left going for that 8/21 date.

Brazil was weird in the fact that 2/3 of tickets had been sold when the government pulled the plug.

But when the race was pulled by Indycar, the money to finish the track magically appeared again. :indiff: :banghead:
The money was to finish reparations to the track since when the government pulled the plug, the track was inoperable. The government let the track finish repairs before pulling support completely.

Most of that speculation came from the budding promoters, not Ecclestone. Ecclestone only ever commented on ones with a contract to hold a race.

Hmmmmmm...

French GP:

South African GP:

Greek/Mediterranean GP:

These are all quotes from him rambling about wanting a race or discussing how he's trying to get a contract, before anything's set in stone.

And actively trying to expand the calendar into new matkets is a bad thing? Especially in comparison to IndyCar, a series that has struggled for a stable calendar - much less expansion - in new markets.

What the hell are you talking about? I never said that expanding into new markets is a bad thing, I said talking about new markets/locations before things are set in stone is bad.

I for one have been a huge supporter of international races for Indycar. What I get upset about is when there's lots of talk from management of races, both domestic and international, and then they don't happen (bar Brazil, as I said was not Indycar's fault in any way, shape, or form). If I remember correctly from last year, there was lots of discussion about there being events in Dubai and another location, it was hyped up and then dropped without hardly any information.

I forget where I had seen the article on it, but one of the hold ups in a potential return to Pocono is that Indycar wants the track to add taller catch fencing.
What amazes me is that the track didn't have any catch fencing except for the front stretch just a few years ago :scared:.

The Boston race is getting gripes from locals. Wonder what will become of that?
Source? I wanna read what's going on.
