That doesn't bother me, since it was his strategy to stay out forever on tires at a track that is notorious for eating tires. It was cool to see him try it, even though it failed.

But, had there been a late caution, chances are good that none of the top 3 would have had a chance. They would have had to pit, as anyone behind then with 30+ lap fresher tires would have annihilated them on a restart.

It's exactly how Kahne lucked into the Indy win, when it should have come down to Bayne or Kenseth.
 
That's why I love the endurance side of the sport. Passes fast and furious are fun, but dammit this is tense too. The tires made it 65 laps, Truex just needed them to go two more.

The race was falling off before Harvick had a loose wheel, then all uniform strategy went up in smoke and we got that last 70 laps.

Truex looks beat and sounds heartbroken. I feel for him.
 
I guess the situations are easy to figure out for Richmond this year: No new winner=no changes in top 16; Elliott, McMurray, or ...the other one win=no change in top 16; anyone else wins=someone's getting bumped.
 
This is the last chance for Bowyer, Dale Jr, Logano, and Erik Jones. Logano won Richmond earlier this year, but the win didn't count due to a rules infraction. Logano and Bowyer both have two career wins at Richmond, with Dale Jr having three. Anything's possible, no matter how improbable.
 
Calling right now: Dale Jr ain't making the chase. I honestly feel like at this point, he's just ready to be done with this stuff for good. I'm under the impression the championship is nowhere a concern for him right now.

Felt it would be that way 6-8 races ago. Now it's just a fan hoping to see one final win by the guy. If not oh well it was an interesting ride through the years, there was the potential.

NBC should consider stepping in for that race, too.

He was done the moment he crashed out at Daytona in July. He just hasn't been the same performance-wise ever since he came back.

I can kind of see their point, but considering there was only 1 race left in the contract it seemingly would have been better from a PR standpoint to just finish the contract and not renew it.
 
So handing out donuts gets a Suarez terminated as a pitch man but the same company had a guy they knew was a pedophile for years be their pitch man and were fine with it until it all came crashing down and Jared Fogle got charged with multiple sex crimes. Great logic, Subway.

This post made me think of a joke, but I don't think I could live with myself if I made it public.

And people wonder why they think of public relations so poorly.
 
Elliott, Kenseth and McMurray are separated by a mere 3 points going into Richmond. If someone below the cutoff wins, that last playoff spot could be determined by a single finishing position. There are going to be some nervous teams and fans Saturday night.

I was about to say that maybe they'll end up with whatever RPM was putting together for Bubba, but then I saw the posts below this, kinda scummy of them.
 
Both Hamlin's Darlington wins last weekend encumbered. Something about the rear suspension on the Cup Car and Xfinity car. No elaboration. Will lose his Crew Chief for 2 races.
 
Jr. will be without Greg Ives for a race after the 88 was found with loose lug nuts at Darlington. Kind of a pointless suspension in this case though since Jr. checked out this year and the whole team has looked like it's gone missing anyway.

I'm sure they will have serial numbers branded/laser cut/stamped on the engine blocks somewhere.

My biggest fascination with this rule is how much will the teams tune down the power in an attempt to guarantee the durability?

I'm going to guess quite a bit on top of skipping quite a bit of practice and qualifying. I just don't see how they are expecting the engines to last at least 5,000 miles (just going by race distances, with practice and qualifying I'm guessing it's a couple thousand higher) without internal bits breaking.

I do like the idea of engine limits though, but on the other hand asking to get 13 races out of 1 sealed engine seems like asking too much.
