2019 Porsche 911 (992)

I like what I've seen from the Chris Harris video, especially that color. Even the colored stripe on the wheel is growing on me. If the wing is that extreme on the "standard" GT3 than the RS version will be simply wild.

While I miss the simpler designs of previous GT3s (and any 911 for that matter), it's time to accept that the 911 is nearing 60 years old and does need some dramatic updates and modern designs. What I do not like is the digital screens all over car's interiors these days. Feels out of place in a GT3.

The Turbo S has already been announced. That's the "911 Turbo SportDesign Package", a $6,150 option.

Interestingly, the small elements on either side of the front bumper reminds me of the 991 Turbo Exclusive Series

Seeing these together reveals I think why the 992 looks clunky compared to the 991. Look at the way the front bumper and fenders/wings and trunklid meet. That is an awkward joint. That combined with the inelegant & rectangular fascia...man the 992 just isn't a pretty car.

I know many people are not fans of the 996.1 egg yolks (those people are wrong :P) but the front end of that car is so well resolved, all of the panel joints are placed well and everything feels harmonious...the 996 just looks prettier and prettier as the years go by. I actually now prefer it to the 997 (which I never thought I would), particularly in .1 GT3 form. I'm just glad I got my 986 when they were absurdly cheap.

The 992 is more similar to the 993 in terms of how they resolved the panel joints...

...but it's not even in the same ballpark in terms of results. The 993 is one of the most beautiful cars ever made, IMO.

This is partially off-topic but these are the ones that I fancy the most.

  1. A Carrera Coupe G50.
  2. A black Porsche 930, like this one.
  3. A 965 (a 964 Turbo as most people call this Porsche).
  4. A 996 GT3 (the only 996 that interests me)
  5. A 993 S, preferably the very expensive 993 Turbo (S)
  6. A 997.2 GT3 Clubsport
  7. A 991.2 GT3 Touring
  8. A 992, standard or S

Yeah that body panel joint was the first thing I noticed when the new car was revealed. It makes the nose of the car look incredibly horizontal/flat unlike the curvier look of the 991. Overall, the new car has a much more horizontal theme than previous cars which can be seen in the interior and the rear.

I don't remember where I got this fact, but I think the interior was supposed to be a callback to the older 911s, such as the 993 you had mentioned

Personally prefer the look of the 991.2 without light bar over the new 992. However, new one is quite a big tech upgrade. The reversing camera is a big step up in quality, however cup holder game is weak.

I like them both. The front end of the 992 is better looking. The hood trunk of the 991.2 reminds me of the trunk of a VW beetle. I prefer the big fat ass of the 992 (all models) and the wider front fenders. Strange but true but the front bumper of the 992 looks better than the one from the 991.2. :D
The rear end of the 991.2 looks better. The dash of the 992 is also nicer.

Coming from a very good source on Rennlist; Sport Classic & Safari in the works.
Back in August 2019 I reported that the forthcoming Sport Classic would use the Turbo body but with no rear fender induction vents. I got the info from a wider conversation about forthcoming cars (GT3, GT3 RS, GT4 RS, GTS, Sport Classic and Safari) that I was party to. But reflecting back, I am wondering if I misheard that part of the conversation and what they really said was that Gt3 RS would have the turbo body with no induction vents....hmmm.
....
Not to take it off-topic but can you provide more info on Sport Classic? Is it more like RS or more like Turbo?
...
More like Turbo.

Porsche is probably going to release the 992.2 before 2025.

From 2025, Euro 7 is going to be the norm which means full electric or hybrid cars.

So like the old C2S if rear wheel drive or C4S if it's all wheel drive?

Our spies first laid eyes on the high-riding 911 back in October, and now they’ve spotted another prototype from Zuffenhausen with a jacked-up suspension. Beyond the obvious boost in ground clearance, the test vehicle had beefier wheel arches, possibly to accommodate a wider track.

At the front, we’re getting the sensation Porsche has fiddled with the bumper’s design to improve the approach angle. It's a similar story at the back where the license plate now sits slightly higher and the bumper has been modified, likely to improve the car's departure angle.

The German automaker has released a teaser advertising a 10-day countdown to the digital world premiere of “the youngest member of the Porsche 911 GT family.” Porsche also released a shadowy teaser that shows off the rear end of the mysterious vehicle sporting what looks like an aggressive wing.

The GT model is shrouded in mystery. Back in September, Bring A Trailer held an auction for a build slot – not the actual car – for a “new GT variant” from the Petersen Museum. The auction ended that same month, though another teaser attached to it showed a 911 hiding under a car cover. However, that car lacked the wing vaguely spotted in the new official teaser from the automaker. That doesn’t mean they aren’t the same car – the Bring A Trailer listing could have been using a stand-in model.

Allegedly a new GT model will be revealed on February 16th, although it does look similar to the GT3 we've seen

It's going to be the GT3 revealed in 10 days according to what others have heard on Rennlist. Would be surprising if it was something else; the only other GT variant folks are awaiting an official reveal is the GT4 RS, but that's not a 911.
