Not a typo. I drove the Red Bull Audi tuned to 550PP in the first event and was way ahead. So I looked for the German Touring Car with the lowest PP level (Merc 190E) and the most narrow wheel width (lower handling) and came back at 500PP. It was still really easy. I only stopped at 480 because that is where the car fell naturally without using turbos or the power limiter. I could run this over and over to try for even lower PP numbers, but what's the point. I had more fun with the Miata 380PP seasonal using 335PP cars.

My absolute favorite set of events in GT4 was the European event, DEUTSCHE TOURING CAR MEISTERSHAFT. Please bring back some form of this event (not all tracks in GT5). This one just doesn't measure up.

I remember that, it was when discovered how good the CLK was.

Firing up the PS as I write. Happy to put my Merc up to loan. Send me a friend request to dlone47

You can try Adrenalins tune although the pretty ordinary one I'm using did it for me.

Car is now on share. Good luck.

Thanks. Just used what you had. Was running the ring gp, 2:04's consistently with the fastest being 2:03.160 cutting the chicane at the end and I passed first every time on the 4th lap there. Went from 27k credits to 20 mil in about a hour and a half. Greatly appreciate the share!

Now to buy my own and finish the other tracks ;)

Not a typo.

He wasn't implying you made the typo, he was referring that perhaps PD did when they created this Seasonal Event. Perhaps the event was intended to be 490PP limit, not 590PP.

Pad= steering from the controllers D-pad, Stick= steering from the controllers analogue stick.

Ahh, okay, so both are with the DS3 PS controller? I wasn't sure if one of them was that aftermarket racing controller with the wheel thingies on it.

I accept that some people excel using the DS3, but clearly it is better to use the wheel.

The fact that the vast majority of top players use them speaks for itself.

I find this to be somewhat of a strawman argument.
While I agree the top players have wheels, I don't believe it's the wheels that made them the top players. Alternatively, I also think that it's common sense that the 'top players' are the 'more serious' players, thus people who are more willing to spend time and money on their GT5 experience, thus the wheels/rigs/etc.

Essentially, the best of the best, are the best because of how seriously they take the game, not because they're casual players.

Yes, they both relate to the DS2/3, not sure what that aftermarket thing would register as, someone on here will know for sure though :)

Ahh. That would make sense. It did seem weird that when you check the typical apponents list, none of them were near 590PP and a few of the German Touring cars can't come close to achieving that limit. So the PD intern in charge of this week's seasonal made a typo and it would be interesting to see how long it will take PD management to notice the mistake since they are all focused on GT6 now.

Yes, the best of the best would be unlikely to be casual players like many of us here are.

However pressing buttons does take its toll on ones thumbs and there would be no similar disadvantage with wheel users as far as I know. And of course I accept that one can use the paddles (sticks) or buy a wheel instead.

I had your argument in mind when writing my post however like you say, it should be common sense, so didn't add it.

Good to hear it worked for you, however I think you have to wait until one comes up in the OCD or UCD.

Yep. Correct.

I was actually being facetious at the time, but seeing as someone was downtuning to 410 PP, 490 PP might have actually been the number intended.

Sadly, PD will probably use the "popularity" of this cash cow to gauge how to create future events. Look forward to more LCD content! :dopey:

Ha ha, 590PP. I thought it was 510PP all along.

For a change I used an Audi in the 1st race and won at 510PP (as I haven't done them all yet and want to see what car I would win) when I could have been using way higher PP.

Anyway tried it at 436PP at the Nurb race and won easily, similar to the Merc.

Thought that was as low as it would go but found I forgot to remove all the aero. That only brought it down to 433PP (new car I have never driven before) however it's in maintenance now so I' won't brother with it.

I'd really like to see Spa in one of these seasonals; they wouldn't have to make it count as one of the races that need to be won for the ticket, but i want to race on it for once!

Yesterday I said;

"OK, was intrigued by Adrenalin's tune so checked my garage for another car to use, and hey presto, I found I had another Merc 190E '92.
So slapped together roughly what I could remember of my first cars tune, no aero, 200kg LSD around 6-12-6 and height -10/ +7, springs 18.7/16.8, cam 2.1/ 1.2, toe -.05/ -.02. Didn't change the rest, don't understand it.

Had a couple of laps with the above tune for comparison with Adrena's tune next.
Did my fastest lap, 2.02.6 as well as a 2.03.2, not to mention a horrible 2.08.
That was at 429PP 303hp, 1180kg 66.2% power, $3.4mil.""

Wanted to try at 415PP again however I find that after todays update the lowest PP I can obtain is 449PP @ 229hp.

So that's the end of that. With that in mind I took my Merc off share as it won't do the trick now.

It is now, in the TT (55) although you have to use a NASCAR.

"Anything goes" means by any means necessary. If I have to use 1 cheat, I might as well use them all.

so with shortcuts?

I did this seasonal events race with my mercedes clk touring car, completely stock setup as i don't put parts on my touring cars, only use them as they are. My pp was at 535 when i did the race, won easily depending on how well I knew the track. Just checked the pp on the car today and with the new update to 2.11 my car pp went up to 599. Good thing I already did that race with it.

1 other thing I always have to have abs on no matter what the event or car setup. Didn't use any driver aids except for abs.

Same thing here, I only did one race in the CLK, had like 545pp & made a nice bonus, but after 2.11, the CLK is over 600pp. Took a stock evo II out and won by a few seconds after correcting the top speed on the transmission ( stock is 320km/h, set to 230km/h for Laguna Seca).
I'll try to win the remaining 3 events with the stock evo II, will have to set the tranny right every race though. I dont think it's strong enough to win without the right tranny setting.

Whoever took a CLK out before 2.11, got off easy in this seasonal.

"Every other week, DoodleMonopoly runs his TT's with the DS3 and finishes top 10-50. Is it easier on a wheel? Probably, but clearly it's achievable on a controller.

Edit: Time Trial No. 55
#1: 8th, 37th, and 39th all on DS3.
#2: 16th, 30th and 34th all on DS3.

Edit2: What's the difference between 'pad' and 'stick', I might be making a fool of myself."

Only 13/top 100 in TT54 were with pad or stick, 11/top 100 in TT53 with pad or stick, 22/top 100 in TT51 pad or stick, 11/top 100 in TT50, well you get the picture. That is 57/400 out of the recent top end results, of people trying their best.

There is a difference between wheels and pads/sticks. I thought I saw somewhere average 3 seconds faster with a wheel?

And on completion yes this seasonal was one of the easier ones, from a stick driver.

That 3 seconds figure you saw somewhere was a result of someone pulling a number out of thin air that made them feel better about themself. Similar and wildly different numbers are reported all the time, as are complaints from wheel users about the unfair advantage that controller users have and how they win more often than not.

The reason most of the top racers are on wheels is because most of the top racers take their racing very seriously and as such are much more likely to want to invest in wheels. Nothing more. The fact that doodlemonopoly can be so competitive with either shows that both are quite capable in dedicated and well-practiced hands.

Wheels have some advantages such as the obvious smoothness of steering and accelerator input. Controllers also have some advantages such as the ease of moving from extreme steering angles back and forth when wrestling with an out of control car, and the speed-sensitive steering not allowing you to overturn the wheels(much).

If there is an absolute difference in pace it is a matter of tenths, not seconds. Various different wheels are widely reported to be reliably faster or slower than each other as well by at least as much. In any given online lobby you're likely to see a good mix of wheel and pad users and there is no way to predict who will finish where except who has the better car, who has the better setup/tune and who is the better driver.

The fact that wheels and pads are as similar in pace as they are in GT5 is a very good thing. Games often do have wide gaps in performance, and it is by no means always an advantage to the wheels.

Why was the BMW 320i Touring Car '03 left out of this event?

Because it's not a DTM car nor in any way intended to be one, as all the others are. It raced in WTCC/ETCC or similar if I recall, which are very different types of "touring cars."

Golded all the races. The Nurb was the most fun and the Eifel the most boring. Did the first race with an Audi and the remainder with a BMW without any tuning or upgrades. Only jacked up the front downforce. Now time to run the NUrb event with as low a PP as possible to make some dollars.

Agree with Morgoth_666. I am DS3 user and have been playing for a year now. I believe that its got more to do with skills rather then the equipment. If you take a bad image you can't blame the camera, can you? I am working hard to improve my skills and ability to drive fast with a DS3. Throttle modulation is the only reason why skilled and fast DS3 users are a tenth or two behind the faster wheel users.

Once I get more practice and get better at throttle control my time will improve. And I also realise that I am not as talented as most players on here are. So I am happy with my place on the totem pole!!

I drive with a controller and use the buttons, as against the paddles (sticks), and find that it is the directional buttons as well as the throttle/brake which can handicap pad players.

Having to take your thumb off the button to change direction can be a disaster sometimes when switching directions very quickly.

Having said that, I am well used to it and likely compensate (subconsciously?) one way or another most times. But not every time.

Apologies Morgorth_666 but I couldn't disagree more.

I have never heard a wheel user ever complain about a DS3 user having an unfair advantage. Quite the reverse, and that 3 second figure IMHO is not that inaccurate although I will say that it probably represents the top end of the performance gap between equally skilled wheel vs DS3 users.

The reason most of the top racers are on wheels is because most of the top racers take their racing very seriously and as such are much more likely to want to invest in wheels. Nothing more. Correct, most serious players have wheels because they take the game seriously and want the experience to be as realistic as possible but lets not kid ourselves. They also have wheel and pedals because it gives them the best possible platform to be able to be competitive too.

Holding up Doodlemonopoly (sorry Doodle) as an example of the norm is preposterous in the extreme. There will ALWAYS be unique individuals that rise above the limitations of any situation and Doodle is one of those. There is no doubt that he is quite extraordinary but to say because he's doing it everyone can is just plain wrong! DS3 users in the top 1000 probably represent less than 2% and I can never accept that at those rates that is a proof positive sample that the DS3 is an equally capable component. If that were true we'd see a much higher sample rate.

Wheels have some advantages such as the obvious smoothness of steering and accelerator input. Controllers also have some advantages such as the ease of moving from extreme steering angles back and forth when wrestling with an out of control car, and the speed-sensitive steering not allowing you to overturn the wheels(much).

Smoothness as you put it or predictable and linear control as I would put it are some of the reasons a wheel is better. Aside from that, the most significant reason is that they are far more accurate and allow much finer levels of control. On a wheel you have inches or movement to determine turn rate on a DS3 you have millimetres of movement so It seems reasonable to posit that error rates would be far higher on a DS3. The same rule applies to braking and acceleration. On the DS3 you have such a fine margin between right and wrong it's almost impossible not to get it wrong.

If there is an absolute difference in pace it is a matter of tenths, not seconds. Various different wheels are widely reported to be reliably faster or slower than each other as well by at least as much. Here we almost agree, regardless of what equipment you use it's up to the individual and whilst I will argue Wheel vs DS3 till the sun turns blue I would hesitate to argue one wheel over another. If you are a bad driver having the best equipment in the world won't make you a good one and equally if you're exceptionally gifted then I doubt it matters what you use.

The fact that wheels and pads are as similar in pace as they are in GT5 is a very good thing. Games often do have wide gaps in performance, and it is by no means always an advantage to the wheels.

I think you are mixing up people with devices. The fact that so many people are equally paced in GT5 is a good thing.

I might not be so quick to agree although I do agree with you that a workman should never blame his/her tools. Having a DS3 does not mean that you can't be competitive and can't have fun but for the ordinary folks in the world who aren't as gifted as Doodlemonopoly like me, a wheel would probably offer a better platform for improvement over a DS3. Who knows Freerizzy, maybe you're the next Doodle and that would be fantastic if that's true but don't discount a wheel.

As a final parting shot, I am a huge fan of the DS3 it's not perfect but it does a really good job and I would never discourage anyone from taking the game as far as they can with one but if you want to make the final move then you simply MUST get a wheel and pedal set. Real cars don't come with DS3's!

 No problem Alan, I guess I deserved that.....gotta love the design work on some of those cars. I'd love to have a go in that Honda :)

 I'd feel really uncomfortable in this, but crossing the channel would mean just shifting seats! They made this in 1996 and we haven't seen it since except for the Honda so I'm thinking they stopped eating those mushroom pizzas?
