Hehehe...make a whole bunch of fake pre orders!

I have been thinking about it! đź’ˇ I wonder if they want a deposit for each pre-order. Harvey Norman wants $10 per pre-order :ouch: I guess they have been burnt before or just want to weed out tire kickers

That's a complete con, anyone asking for a deposit for a pre order shouldn't be in business.

Go somewhere else. Amazon and Play.com don't go in for this shoddy practice.

the 2 gamestops closest to me always require deposits as well. $5 for regular editions and $10 for special edition. i don't know if every gamestop in the states requires a deposit. i always just thought it was natural. lol.

but, they will refund your money within 1 week of release if you choose to cancel.

at this point, if i could, i'd pay them full price ahead of time to secure a midnight opening.

It's not a con. It's in place to make the customer commit. It's also to prevent a surplus of product the store may not be able to sell after the release. Companies have programs and software that will help determine distribution of product to the stores based on sales, volume, location, etc. I doubt pre orders would get factored into this number, or change it in any way, so if they suddenly have twice as many copies as they would be expected to sell, there's a problem.

Now with the new Release Date of 11/24, any u.s. stores planning a midnight release on 11/23?

I talked to my local Game Stop and they said they probably would, but I haven't gotten a simple yes or no as of yet. I will call again on Monday and ask.

I called Gamestop the day we got the new release date and they had no clue - they were still showing a placeholder date of 1/1/2011? I'll be calling back too! I am stoked for this game.

Weird, I figured that all of the stores selling this game would have updated by now. This is huge news in the gaming community.

I've not been this excited about a game release since GranTurismo 3. I can remember when it released in the summer time - I was on vacation with my family and made excuse to go shopping at the mall that day so I could jump in line when the clerk opened the delivery box of shiny new copies of GT3. Now I'm ready for the latest iteration like a kid a Christmas, except it will be Thanksgiving!

I talked to my Game Stop and they weren't sure, but probably not with such short notice on the new release date.

Mine said that too,but the guys there are pretty cool and they said more than likely they would have a midnight launch.

I wonder what time the game actually hits the shelves in the 24hr stores eg Walmart etc etc?. Maybe it will be before midnight you think?. Or will/can they refuse to sell before then?.

I did pre order via Amazon, but i just had to cancel that this morning seeing as im off work that day. It would of killed me to have to wait at home for the Postman/Delivery to deliver it, knowing that the game is actually already in the stores. Much prefer to go the store and get it in my hands..........FINALLY.

Oh i went and bought a DFGT wheel today. Im hoping GT5 will play along nicely with it. GT5P seems to, though it does seem lacking in settings to change, eg wheel weight etc etc?. Am i just missing a section of the setting where i can adjust that kind of thing?, or isnt there anything like that?

My local Gamestop wasn't sure if they would or not. I don't really care because I wouldn't go anyway.

I work from 6:30-4:30, so I'm up at 5:30 every morning. I have to work on Tuesday, so no way I'd be able to stay up much past midnight. I'll get a nice night's sleep Tuesday night, get up and be at the door of my local Gamestop at 10 AM when they open. Then play for 5 days straight (Wednesday through Sunday). It's gonna be glorious.

I haven't even checked. Gamestop is like 25 miles from here and I do not much care for the idea of driving all the way over there at that time of night. I'll pick it up early in the morning instead.

I used Amazon and received an email today that I'd have it on the 24th.

I don't bother with the midnight releases for the same reason as Pedal-Force (work 0630-1530). Since I work and live in the middle of nowhere, it takes 35 min to get to work. It takes an HOUR to get to best buy, game stop, etc.

Amazon is a godsend for we that be remote.

I just called a couple of Game Stops in my area and got a definitive no from them. Looks like I'm going down there tonight to get my money back. My friend called Wal-Mart who said that they were planning on midnight, so I'm just going to go there.

Man, at this point, the gamestop i've pre-ordered from is also not doing a midnight. Chances are slim they will at all because they're doing a midnight opening for Black Friday.

If I wasn't getting the CE, I'd also do what you did CopenKagan. Walmart's only got the CE via their website.

Luckily for me I only have the standard edition. I don't even really care to go to Wal-Mart, but I'm too excited for this game to wait 10 additional hours.

I wonder if the game case that's packaged in the CE is the same as the standard edition. Hmmmmmmmmmm? Walmart's the King of Returns so I could always buy the SE at night then return the sealed copy that's in the CE...

Who am I kidding? Wife's not going to be too happy with me running out to walmart in the middle of the night for a video game, especially with Thanksgiving stuff to do the next day. Man, why didn't this game come out BEFORE I got married??

Wow my Gamestop I always go to isn't going to have a midnight launch oh well. Half day at work it is then haha.

I doubt any Gamestops are doing midnight launches due to the short notice on the release date. I think a lot of people will be able to score the game Tuesday afternnon/evening when GS gets there shipments in. This is what I'm hoping for. I don't want to cancel my preorder with them so I can get that Mclaren. Thats probably why they are nolonger selling the collectors edition because they get the Mclaren wich is the best car out of all the stealth preorder cars.

I think there won't be a Midnight Launch because of two reasons:

1) Its the day before Thanksgiving
2) Its not a Tuesday.

Either way, I wouldn't go at Midnight just to buy a game since I'm not going to stay up that late to go and play it. I can get the game at 10 AM that day and since its a pre-order, all I have to do is walk in and pick it up.

I told my wife I'm going last Friday when we learned the new release date. Nothing is going to stand in my way. :D

I have a preorder through Amazon with release date delivery.

HOWEVER, I don't have any responsibilities for 11/24 and I am now hunting for somewhere that I could have it guaranteed on release date.

I called the 24 hours Meijer (Sort of upscale Walmart if you're not from the midwest) and the person in the media department, when asked if they'd sell them starting at midnight responded "If we have them, yes. I'd call that day to make sure."

I'm REALLY thinking about cancelling with Amazon and trying Meijer.

Edit: I'm only going for the standard edition. Odds are that stores won't run out, but who knows?

Thoughts?

What about stores that sell the game and are open 24 hours? :)

Edit again: Here, some nincompoops discuss getting games at midnight from Meijer: http://www.se7ensins.com/forums/topic/300892-really-meijer/page__st__15

Meijer looks to be a good bet if you're in the Great Lakes region.
