Any stores planning a midnight launch?

Ok, I tried it and called Target. For the first 5 minutes or so while I was holding on the phone, I thought it was going to work. The sales rep. who answered the phone said he didn't have it; I told him I had just spoken to the store manager(gave him her name) and that the game was on storage, so he went to get it there. In effect they do have it(DAMN IT!!) But after talking when he came back from storage and scanning it on the computer, he told me that it couldn't be sold till the 24th. I replied again(raising my voice this time lol) that I had just spoken to the store manager(gave him her name again) but he said the store could lose their liscence for selling a game in advance of a date the computer indicated and that not even the store manager could do that.. blah blah blah.. lol, oh well, I decided to call it quits right there. At least I gave it a try. He did say that Walmart may have it by midnight sice they open 24hrs though..what do you think??

I tried that with WalMart on Saturday night. Didn't work there either. I'm going to try my local Target and WalMart on the way home and just have a quick peek.

I live in Diamond Bar CA which is like an hour or two from Pasadena and I, too, am having a midnight release. BTW Pasadena is beautiful and you should be grateful you live in a place like that bro! :sly:

I can shed some light on this topic, as I work at Target.

Target already has both the Normal Edition and the Collector's Edition in stock in the back electronics room. I know this because I work security and every night we have to count the "popular" games to make sure none of them are missing...and yes, I have seen GT5...both editions, sitting back in there in all their glory.

The boxes are NOT street dated! meaning there is no RED wording on the cardboard boxes saying: "Do not sell before November 24, 2010".

So..(this is what I would do):

1) Call Target..and ask what the STL or LOD's name is.
2) Once you get that name...memorize it!
3) Go to the Target you just called and head straight back to the electronics department.
4) Go up to one of the morons working in the electronics department and tell them that your'e there to pick up a game that just came out today called Gran Turismo 5.
5) Before they have a chance to respond, say..."Yeah, I just called and spoke to (insert name you just got on the phone), and they said that they are in stock in the backroom and I can pick it up.
6) If they try to say no...cut in again and tell them that you JUST drove 1 hour to this store because the STL told you that they have them! Raise your voice!
7) Get your game, and pay for it.
8) Go home and enjoy.

The reason why this will work is the fact that ALL team members are afraid of the STL (Store Manager)....they will NOT want to go against something that an STL told you.

By calling Target...you will waste your time. When the Team Members hide behind a phone...they are the toughest people ever....but when you confront them face to face....they will back down...trust me!.

Most important part is to get the name of that STL! Once you have the name...go after 6pm! If you go before 6pm...the STL might still be there and then, the team member can verify that you never talked to them!. Go after 6pm and there is NO way to verify what was said between you and the STL.

Sometimes the STL's stay later than 6pm...but usually never on a weekday. They are always gone by 6pm on weekdays.

My plan was to use the guys name that told me it would be there and basically raise my voice saying I drove 1hr 30mins to pick this game up if they made any problems between me and my GT5.

LOL...this post made me Lol. But, im glad you tried. I knew they had it back in their backroom...stinks they didn't sell it to you though :( Im pre-ordering the standard edition as well...just incase the CE is backordered. Would hate to go pick up my game Wednesday morning to be told it isn't there. lol.
 
Ok.. I tried exactly the same thing at Walmart just 20 minutes ago. Once again, I thought it was gonna work.. Spoke to a girl @ electronics dept. she didn't have the game there, she went to get it at storege after I told her I was the cousin of the store manager lol..
I even complemented her by telling her she sounded like the LOD and boosting her ego.. she didn't wait to go in the back and yes they do have the game as well, but she said the same thing: the game can't be sold till the 24th. I tried sweet talking to her, almost hitting on her, made her giggle and laugh even, but at the end she said she could even lose her job, so I didn't want to push it anymore. I said thanks anyways and that was it. Guess we'll have to wait guys :(
 
It appears Sony has strict rules with all US retailers and they have to stick 100% by their release date, otherwise these stores can lose the rights to sell Sony products.
 
I literally do live an hour from the Target store, so if they tell me they can sell it tomorrow, and I drive all the way down there, and don't get it.. someone is going to hear it from me, big time.
 
Oh I will... The girl I spoke to said to make sure and call before I begin my journey, so I will also do that.
 
Just called Local Gamestop No midnight release here either. They answer the phone, " Gamestop, where you can get your call of duty black ops" Who cares about black ops I said, people want GT5!!! NOW

Edit: you guys would have loved my GameStop store when I was a manager. Everyone knew what they were talking about.
 
I just called a guy answered I asked the 1 million question he then replied, "hold up it doesnt show up". After a minute a women picks up the phone saying it was delayed and she thinks it doesnt have one yet.:odd: She then said she is going to see if they even have it. She then goes into the back room to find it. She then finds it and then takes it up front and tries to ring it up. She then said to me it tells her she cant sell it until the 24th.:sick:

So now Iam just going to wait and pick it up on Wednesday :sick:.
 
Well just got off the phone with my local Walmart supercenter. I can pick it up there @ midnight tomorrow. I'm heading to Gamestop to cancel my order. SWEET...
 
Game and Gamestation in Derby are both doing Midnight releases! Happy days! 23 hours time and Ill be shredding open my signature edition like there's no tomorrow! :D
 
The fact that many Gamestops are passing up the chance to take these early sales tells me why Walmart has been taking lots of their market share the last few years.
 
Yeah, if Target doesn't have it for me tomorrow, I'll be visiting a wal mart on the 24th, several hours before Gamestop even thinks about opening.
 
i'm from columbus ohio. called 14 of our gamestops. not 1 doing a midnight release. if i didnt have the collectors edition pre ordered i would be going to wal mart as well. i'm gonna try and haggle them all day tomorrow to give it to me b4 they close..........so help me god
 
the main reason alot of gamestops arent doing the midnight is because how the release dates got shuffled around and alot of stores didnt have time to prepare for it. it didnt even show the 24th as a release date in our computer til last week. It actually came up as 1/11/11.

Ya, I went to a Futureshop asking about the game and they said it got delayed until January, probably thats what showed up in their system too.

The only thing is it take maybe 2 people to do a midnight release, I'm sure the manager would do it and I'm sure there is at least one other employee at each store who would like to get it at midnight. We are in the vast minority on this forum, but there is quite a bit of business being lost by not doing a midnight release.
 
so I went to my local Ebgames and the clerck told me that they have the standard edition on time for the 24, but the collectors edition will be delay for 2 days cuz sony did a mistake in the shipping, yet he was not sure said maybe he get them wednesday morning.
found another store in montreal that does midnight lauch Microplay I,ll rent the game untill I get my collectors edition

Nothing heard hear yet, apart from ill informed and ignorant people in Brevard county ! The best attempt at customer service came from Target in Merritt Island. They think it will be out on sale tomorrow ! If it is I will advise accordingly.

My local gamestop was frankly appaling and has lost a customer, I also have a standard preordered with them. To be told "It won't be out this month" is indicitive of the lack of professionalism so apparent today !!!

Good luck, is you are after a c.e. Best Buy in Kissimee has stock available. Good luck the wait is almost over !!

if it was up to me i would do it, hell i would even work the midnight lol. It sucks cause had it came out when it was supposed to we would have had the midnight for it. im thinking of going to walmart buying a copy, then returning the unopened copy from my collectors edition to them.💡

I say teach them a lesson, and we all appear there the next day saying we wanna cancel the order since you already got it from Walmart the previous night..

I know it'd probably be only 10 hours till the game'd come out the next day, but if we had it our way, most of us would most likely be playing through the night ;)
