So unless I'm missing something (possible, I'm painkillered up the eyeballs and not that smart on a good day) the Trial Mountain race is 12 laps, RH and RM available yet it's 1 mandatory pit stop and you must run RM at some point so it's an obvious RM/RM race then? Why bother making RH available?
I did a drive through on mediums in the first slot. The mediums will easily do the full 12 laps.

Guess it depends on tyre deg. Depending on quali spot or if you get punted out I might be tempted to run the hard long and pit with a few laps to go or pit early

Would make sense if the mediums weren't enough to go the full distance, but they are. All a bit odd, really.

Unless they’re trying the mandatory pit penalty system this is completely stupid.

People were saying not pitting would be a 1 minute penalty. Not only that doesn’t seem harsh enough but missing a mandatory pit should disqualify.

If they are trying out mandatory pits stops and a mandatory tyre they should increase the tyre wear then. That pit stop at Brands Hatch made no sense at all. In my race the tuning made huge gaps between cars which then made the pit stop drive through pointless.

Im going to start in rh then switch to rm in slot 1 and see how that works since its a 1 pit mandatory

i like that idea because a 1 min penalty doesnt matter if you are ahead 10 secs because everyone else pitted

Agreed. I’m not saying it made sense and they could still test the penalty system and have tyre wear or fuel that would imply people would have to do something when pitting.

The tuning you’re mentioning is most likely people cheating. That shouldn’t inform us in our opinions on that mandatory pit stop.

Asia Slot 3. GT1. Vantage.

The lobby loaded and I was ranked 10 of 15. 10 of the cars were AWD.

Qualified out of my skin with a 28.8xx Good enough for Q5 and the only non-AWD in the top 10.

The race start was hectic with a WRX in P3 getting the first complex wrong and dropping a spot to be right in front of me as we exited the first tunnel. This presented an opportunity for some fuel saving and I slotted in behind to short shift and hold the slip for the best part of a lap before he was away again.

Lap 3 and another WRX and an Atenza are right on my hammer and the Atenza dives both of us into the hairpin at the end of the back straight. He is then all over the place and I’m able to get past him out of the next hairpin. He and the WRX then start battling through the next 3 turns and I get a gap. 2 more laps and suddenly I’m on my own, 3 seconds behind p4 and 3 seconds in front of p6.

At the end of lap 5 the cars ahead start pitting. I stay out in clear air. By lap 9 everyone else has been in, I’m p1 and have enough fuel to run flat out for the last 4 laps. On lap 11 I pit with no clear sense of where I will be when I rejoin. As the infinitely long pit sequence plays out I watch my position drop from 1st to 10th in the list and despondency descends.

As I exit the pit I am wondering how I lost so much time and then as I rejoin I see p3 just ahead and p4 goes by as I cross back onto the track. I am 10+ seconds in front of p6.

I sit right on the bumper of the WRX in p4 until the back straight where he gets a better run and leaves me in the dust. I get back within slip range by the time we hit the last chicane, but I can’t close the gap and cross the line 0.5 behind in p5.

Couldn’t have raced any better and take the 216 points and run.

Slot 1: Rain was torrential in qualifying. I tried to qualify on Inters but had to abandon that after struggling for grip due to the random hydroplaning. I ended up qualifying on full Wets, even though the track was dry enough for Inters by the final lap. I qualified 7th, I think 6s off pole IIRC. I stuck to the Full Wets for the start of the race, and for some reason 6th place started on Mediums, so I was immediately past him before we even got to Eau Rouge the first time. Everyone else from 11th on back were also on slicks of varying grades, so they quickly dropped well behind the rest of us (still, props to @Geauxgreddy for sticking it out to the end). I picked off several other people in front who were struggling for grip in the Inters until I was up to 2nd briefly before screwing up Eau Rouge and handing it back to the car I had just passed after they'd screwed up La Source. From there, I held 3rd until Lap 5 when the track dried out too much for the Full Wets and the cars on Inters started catching me. A BMW passed me to put me down to 4th before the other car ahead on Wets pitted at the end of the lap, promoting me to 3rd once again. I decided to go 1 more lap to let the track dry out a bit more. I lost another spot to another car on inters, dropping me to 4th yet again.

Pitting on Lap 6, I elected to go for Softs, and surprisingly came out of the pits still in 4th. From there, I slowly started catching 3rd...until I ran off at Les Combes a couple laps later by allowing myself to drift off of the dry line. Beaching it cost me 6s and halved a comfortable 11+ second gap to 5th. I managed to avoid that mistake again until near the closing laps, where I proceeded to run off 3 more times (including Les Combes, again...). Running wide at La Source to start the final lap dropped me back to 6th, then I picked up a penalty from running wide at Eau Rouge/Radillion. Fortunately, up ahead the GT-R GT500 I'd given a free spot to a few laps prior had run wide at Pouhon, then got shoved of at Stavelot by a Z4 that caught him because of it. Somehow the Z4 didn't get a penalty though. At the same time, @Dezcom in another Corvette that had done the entire race on Inters was struggling. I passed the recovering GT-R, then @Dezcom out of Stavelot, served my half-second penalty, then caught and re-passed Dez at the chicane to grab 4th, as well as first of the 3 Corvettes and first American, and 40s behind the winner. Everyone from 8th back finished at least 1 lap down.

I could've had a relatively easy 3rd place were it not for all of my stupid mistakes (seems to be a theme for me in this game so far...), but it was worth 274 points, which would be silly to risk by going again.
Great job @GTWolverine !! Me and a Subie on slicks were battling it out at 42 mph! Lol. I bought rain tires and went again, was up to 8th in top split, then disaster as I hydro'd into Les Combes and went from p8 to pLast. 181 points and advice for any and all... the gr3 Lambo is a death trap, stay away!! 🤣😫😭

How does the point system work? Race 1 I got 2nd and 72 pts. Race 2 I got 6th and almost as many, every position had more points than the 1st race. Then you guys say you got over 200, that wasnt even available in my lobby. Is that cuz I'm a B/S driver and you guys are A or A+? Someone said they got 1st and walked away with 40 pts. A D rank lobby maybe?

Yes.

The points available scale with DR ratings. Although the raw numerical value is now masked in GT7, in GT Sport the winner would get points approximately equal to 0.4% of the average DR of the lobby.

Ah, so my driver rating points must have went up just slightly, thus putting me in a better lobby with slightly more points per position. Thanks for clearing that up Famine. I was wondering how I did worse but got similar points.

Does normal lobby/multiplayer races count towards your driver rating to increase it? Or just sport races?

This was actually my first drive of this track in anger. I'd had a look at launch just to see but I'd never come across it much in the single player and it hadn't came up in the online mode for me to have a reason to learn it (last played on GT4 a long time ago and even then it has changes to it) so spent a decent amount of the day learning and getting to know the circuit, and what a beauty it is.

I thought I was doing some pretty solid Rank B times but when I put in a good practice lap time for me in Qualy it was only good enough for 10th, okay lots of work to be done here in the future. I'm looking forward to it but I'm limited on free time, so 1 slot, this evening.

Race was pretty fun, got into a three way fight for the 8th,9th,10th spots with a German and a Brit, throughout pitstops, penalties and spins we were basically fighting each other to the end. I did get a bit sick of the German nipping at my heels and gave him a squeeze coming out of the chicane onto pit straight which ended up slamming him into the wall, my bad, little naughty I can't lie :D but a few laps later when it was me on his heels and I managed to spin at that awkward camber right hander, he surely had a chuckle looking in his rear view.

This bloody section right here was catching me out all race:

Anyway, finished 10th here, I'm happy to take it, no time to race again and I didn't really see the cars ahead enough to make me think I could improve significantly to go and catch them with another run.

Lovely track though, great flow, takes me back to the GT4 days.

Yes, the points give out are based on the ranking of the whole lobby. getting 10th in a A lobby is like 5x points getting 1st in a D lobby I think lol

I’m done with online racing now! 2 races in a row I’ve race fairly and clean but some people are just sore loser! They have to deliberately crash you out because they don’t like been overtaken!
Also the fact the dailys are meta cars only races I just don’t see the point any more!
I see you in some races, im usually one of the couple in non meta cars, like the megane or scirocco, but im with you on this, i hv been staying out of the wrx only races this week, as they always crash my little hp when i pass them or im in top 5

It's no worse than GT Sport and the Supra or Scirroco or Megane only races. Then you'd get that one off like Monza no chicane where Veyron is default best, or Blue Moon Bay where the Evo had different BOP so it was best.

Same tune, different band

After yesterday's round where I had a good qualifying and a nightmare race, I've just had a nightmare qualifying that led into a fantastic race.

I got out of the pits second, but ended up getting uncomfortably close to the Porsche that had left first coming down towards the final chicane on the out lap so I backed off and pulled over to wait for a gap. Attempting to start the flying lap was a farce as someone made a mistake at the chicane, and the gap I had gone into immediately disappeared with 3 cars very close in front of me bumper-to-bumper. I quit back to the pits in frustration and went out again as it had completely compromised my entry onto the start/finish straight.

However... something was wrong. Leaving the pits to go onto my second out lap, my steering felt extremely heavy all of a sudden as though my wheel's FFB settings had been cranked right up. I tried wrestling with it but made a mistake on my flying lap and got a penalty. Back to the pits again, but I eventually set a 1:59.670 for P12.

At the start of the race, I discovered that P12 on Trial Mountain with a rolling start is NOT fun - you start on the right-hander of the final chicane but pointing straight at the wall.

P11 came very quickly as the Mitsubishi in front of me had started on Hards and couldn't match the pace, with me slipping up the inside at the first tunnel as it slid wide. I came into the pit lane at the end of lap 1 and drove through, figuring that if I'm going to salvage anything from this my best chance is running in clean air for as long as possible. I had already practiced fuel saving and finding out what the tyres would be like if I didn't replace them, so the chase was on.

My plan worked far better than I could ever have hoped. Incidents, penalties, people replacing their tyres/taking on fuel and even some rage quits meant I just kept moving up and up running in clean air by jumping everyone during their pit stops.

Looking at the race results, this was the best I could have asked for after my practice times. There's no way I would ever have been able to touch the top 3 even if I started in front of them. I'm genuinely shocked to get this as I was being thoroughly outpaced in qualifying. My best in free practice was only a mid 1:59 as well. I'd have been very happy to get this from further up the grid, but to get this after starting P12? It feels like a damn win! :D 218 points is right up there as one of the best scores I've ever hauled in too.

I’m at that point now we’re I’m just gona race dirty. Racing fairly hasn’t got me anywhere as somehow I try and avoid contact I end up getting a penalty or shunted off the track. 2 races tonight in the cup and 1st race some uses me as a brake so they can launch one on the inside of me to get pas. I go wide but as I didn’t fully go of the track they didn’t get a penalty. And 2nd race I was pit manoeuvred as it was my corner and already ahead, but they kept the foot down and wouldn’t yield so I got pit manoeuvred from it.

Going to go again later and hopefully get a clean lobby

Hey bro, dont lose dr & sr because of the idiots, its not worth stooping to their level because thats why they are stuck at level they at or lower, i sometimes dont try to qualify just so i dont get put in middle of pack to be hit & if i get bumped off track i make sure to intentionally put all 4 wheels off track so they get a 3-4 sec penalty, but they get mad when you beat them in a non meta car, you race good, i have saw you plenty in my races

Did today’s race on the porsche. Such a boring race. Those long straights really need something with more speed. This isn’t a track I would race again on gr4. Brands was THE gr4 track. Shame people cheating defeated the purpose on running that one.

Anyway, qualified P14 and finished P10. Did the whole race on one set of RM tyres and added one lap of fuel in the pit. The atenzas were so much faster on the straight it’s not even funny.

Didn’t have any issues connecting on ps5 once again.

Since we can't see exact DR points anymore I can't see how much I gained/lost last night. I was wondering though, since I got disconnected due to a game error during warmup 2 times, does that count as finishing last and lower my DR? I can't remember how it was on GT Sport.

Im back!
Took an hours rest away from the game and came back to a decent race. Steady race, consistent driving and lap times and stayed away from trouble.
This time I used the 15 mins free practice and got a rhythm going where as other two races I joined with 5 mins to start.
Quali was pretty rubbish. Couldn’t match my FP time down in P12.
Decent start to the race, just held back from the scrap infront and them fight it out for 4 laps. Then I moved up the board. Pitted on lap 10 to let the driver behind create a nice gap so I didn’t get caught up. Finished P5, with a clean race star too.

Done my 3 rounds with a 2nd, 2nd, 1st in DR B group was good fun and set some fastest laps with a pole on last round also as well as the win. Must be close to DR A but its a pain that there is no way too tell how close you are but have being seeing myself in mixed lobbys on daily races now must be a sign.

Some of the driver's in DR B are insanely bad losers and doing all sorts of bad driving like stopping you setting fastest QR etc gets a bit frustrating and penalty system really needs looked at more.

Looking forward too nations cup now....🇬🇧😎

So unless I'm missing something (possible, I'm painkillered up the eyeballs and not that smart on a good day) the Trial Mountain race is 12 laps, RH and RM available yet it's 1 mandatory pit stop and you must run RM at some point so it's an obvious RM/RM race then? Why bother making RH available?
You could in theory pit on the first lap. Then run hards for the rest of the race. Also makes it possible to simply **** up tire selection!

Well, my first GT since 4 and first online series. Took Aston Martin and only got the 15 mins practice in before each round. The first two I did okay but didn't really enjoy the races as there were a few idiots intent on knocking people off the track, myself included. I need to work on avoiding them.

Third round tonight I had an absolute blast though, really good clean race in a B/S lobby. Didn't pit until lap 7 as tyres were okay and had a nice clear bit of track. Pitted and came out P10, worked back up to P8 but couldn't close the couple of seconds to P7. However, then finished 6th due to people not realising they had to pit.

The best part is the guy that thought he won got a 2 minute penalty for doing a no stopper on hards.... he finished last instead haha.

Yesterday, I was quintissential Ferrari going with intermediates race 1 when it ended up bone dry. Didn't really matter; I was last place regardless.

Thankfully, Mother Nature in the second race gave me somewhat of a figthing chance. Still binned it twice although just about everyone in the field made one major mistake. Les Combes was the biggest offender as the dry line through there differed from where people usually ran.
