I realise that, and that no one really wants to wreck anyone else's fun, but just be advised: it pisses people off.

IMO play the game you have, not the game you wish you had.

when we do run events with lower power, we pull of the grid then start the races 30 seconds or so after everyone else. If anyone in the higher pp car gets passed, then they should question their driving, not our choice of cars, or, like i do, just accept that someone is faster than them and not get jealous about it. We are playing the game we have, utilising it to it's full potential, to the best of our ability.

I don't think any of us are stuck up. We are just a community of people that want to have good/clean/fair races. In the end of the day we are part of a group of people with like minded views on how we should conduct ourselves in the online world. To want these things is not the actions of nerds in my book.

Have you ever invited these people over to have a look, or is it the opinion of just a couple of people that just don't get the point of the GTP Tag?

I have to admit when I first started playing GT5:P I did think GTP'ers where a bunch of stuck up nerds.

What did it was mainly the GTP online events, like this one. Putting half a dozen 450PP Cervos at the front of a 650 or 750PP race caused havoc for everyone else trying to run the proper event the way it was meant to be run. This also put big gaps in a field of reduced size, making passing a rare event, furthermore with all the good clean GTP racers not participating the punter concentration was higher than usual.

I thought to myself "look at all these GTP guys ruining this event for everyone else so they can run a stupid Cervo race on a public server, what a bunch of...", "what? do they think they're too good to race with the general GT community".

I know, that's not the way it is, but that is the way it looks.

LOL my thread, It was great racing though

I have noticed a lot of hate towards us in recent events, My tag seems like a magnet to punters when Im racing on my own. Its not like we are elitist though really is it? I suppose it is rather annoying when someone is passed by a F40 when they are in a clio that they think is godly.:sly:

These insults are nothing. Go to the official Playstation site and mention GTP on their GT forums. They apparently are the refuge for our banned members to talk smack.

It's not like that and you know it, Rev.

You make it sound like all people do at OPSC is talk about GTP-ers because they're the refuse of GT Planet.

"you're just stuck up
Maybe so...

Yeh...

"drive around with fancy GTP tags"
Fancy?

"think your better than everyone else"
Some GTPers are among the best, but most of us ain't. Merely 'thinking' you're better than anyone else is pretty pointless anyway - proving that you actually are is quite a different matter. The evidence shows that GTP is home to many drivers who can mix it at the highest level, but I don't see how that makes us any different to other large GT forums, like GT5net or GTRP...

"You must use all your time tuning the cars"
Yes, it takes ages to figure out how to get the car to the desired PP level, or use a tune from someone who actually knows what they are doing :p

"and don't have a life!"
Guilty as charged...

I am massively offended by these statements
Don't be - if anything, they are mostly back-handed compliments ;)

It is a bit of a shame that the GTP_ tag is perceived badly by some people, but at the end of the day, I don't think names or allegiances should have anything to do with it - if your driving stinks, then you deserve criticism, tag or no tag.

I still think some of the people on here take this game way to seriously so the nerd term does apply but not most, some of of just want to drive.

When I came here I asked questions and got honest answers.

I made some interesting and not so interesting friends.

While I'm not a great driver, I am better than I used to be.

I have a "GTP" tag because I am a member of this community. Proudly I might add!
I also drive under a couple of other tags for my own personal amusement. I also understand that when I see certain "tags" I must either beware and drive very defensively or I'm in for a good time. By reputation some are better than others. I didn't create their "Rep." they did!

If that makes me "elite" a "nerd" or "stuck-up" then I have two words for anyone who feels that way about me or this community and it ain't "Merry Christmas!"

At the end of the day, I'm too freakin' old to buy green bananas , or tolerate a lack of respect in my life or for my friends. If you can't play well with others stay out of the sandbox!!

Are GTP'ers stuck up nerds?

I'm a GTP'er and the only thing stuck up is my hair :dopey:.

A nerd you say then yes....I confess I am a nerd. I recently spent a couple of hundred quid on a new HD capture device to record my online racing and then sit for hours editing the footage to later post them on YouTube......

I'm a Nerd but who the hell cares!

NO WAY, while there are unsavory elements any time people are involved,I think the GTP guys are a great bunch.Nothing wrong in being passionate about what you enjoy. Like a few others have said I have gotten a lot better since becoming envolved with GTP. I respect the abilities that the best on this site have and would consider them some of the best virtual racers in the world, I am proud to be a small part of this community.

Have you ever invited these people over to have a look, or is it the opinion of just a couple of people that just don't get the point of the GTP Tag?

I know that some of them are member here, but only read they don't take part in anything, so they will probably learn of this thread soon.
It must be said that most of them DO get the point of the GTP tag, and know that it's all about clean and fair racing.
It's seems to me that some of them consider the tag like a big expensive bling watch, a sort of "look at me, I'm so special" sort of thing.
I have tried to explain to them that this is not the case, and most of them get my point, but some insist on being unfair in their views on us.

I don't want to get a GTP tag. I will rather stay hhow i am. GTP'ers aren't nerds at all. They are just people who like GT and know all the stuff u need to.

When I get in a race where I see a GTP. I know that it's going to be a good clean race and more than likely going to be racing a very fast and experienced driver. I never ever see GTP members as stuck up or nerdy.

That's complete BS! grrr Refuge??? :irked: I'm an active member there as well (so are other GTP members) and have never read any smack talk about GTP members.

Ha ha ha :) yea of course i am i was just testing the response else i wouldnt be on here now would i,back to the thred there probaly just jealous of this site cause its the best:tup:

I don't think it's nerdish at all.Wearing a GTP tag represents the finest racing community on-line.Good,clean,honest racers is what we are all about.

I recall an incident recently (rwd Suzuka) last set of events,I was in the Tuned 111R,driving my a** off hard trying to reel in a non-GTP tag driving a NSX.There were times were I could have been a bit aggressive, but clean.Instead I layed back, not wanting to bump, scrape, nudge him.I rode his bumper at times on the last lap (he was being very defensive, but clean),he won,I took 2nd.I got pm'd by him saying " THANKS FOR THE CLEAN DRIVING , YOU GTP GUYS ARE AWESOME ". I asked him if he was a forum member, not wearing the GTP tag,his reply was " no I am not,I like to do the solo thing , but I have the utmost respect for all of you GTPers. So in my opinion,we have a good name out there with some respect,I do not feel we are nerds.

I competed for a tag mostly to gauge how fast I am compared to other drivers who are really giving it their all.

I know I'm not the fastest, but I aim to always be faster, cleaner and more in control of my ride every time I race.

I'll take last place rather than run what I consider penalty laps, I'll brake heavily to avoid other cars at any cost and I'll leave a wide berth through the corners if I'm barely hanging on to a skinny lead. I wont roll over, but I'll use my best judgement at all times.

I don't race as much as I should, mostly because there aren't enough drivers online (outside of planned events, my playtimes are pretty random) who embrace the high ethical standards of tagged GTP members. I don't like getting run off the road on lap 1 of a ten lap race without the other driver even just simply acknowledging they should penalize themselves.

Just my two cents on the subject. And the charitable nature of the subscription cost just tops it right off.

I have nothing but pride for being a part of this community. Kudos to all members and staff.

👍

It may have changed somewhat, but there are banned members there who talk hate-speech towards GTP when its brought up. It's not BS in any way.

I dont mean to anger anyone. But i do see how the ridgid rules regarding gramar and how some of the topics about adding new aspects/racecars to GT5 that get shot down gives that impression.
This has absolutely nothing to do with online racing, as GTPer's are clean friendly racers.

again racing is awesome, but the GTP website can be weird at times.

The rules regarding grammar are there for a reason. You have to bear in mind the fact that we are an international community and the correct grammar has to be used in order for those that don't use English as there first language to at least have a chance of understanding. If you started allowing things like text speak and bad spelling what chance would people have at understanding what was being said. Another reason is the age range. The age range goes from early teens up to and above people in their 50's, so the community has a lot of mature members that like to communicate in a mature fashion, in other words use the language correctly. This also helps in peoples mind set that when they are asked a question in a mature manner they tend to reply in the same fashion.

Regarding your comment on topics being shot down, I aren't quite sure what you are getting at there, but If you mean these topics get closed, they are closed for the simple fact that they are done to death and use of the search function is suggested in this situation to find an existing thread with all these types of discussions.

The points I have highlighted are what keeps this community running smoothly, and this is why some people make comments like we are all "nerds" and "we think we are better". These sort of people tend to be those that don't like being asked to conduct themselves correctly. This is why you here such comments as highlighted by this thread.

You find me one business in the world that has never had a complaint or bad word said about it. Trust me you will struggle.

👍

PS : I corrected the grammar in your quote. :D

The GTPlant site is a wealth of information, it's not just about GT5 Prologue, many other topics and I've only just dipped my toes into what's on offer.
You enter a race, 8 other people and yourself, no tags are on show (not just GTP, several others), you have no idea what to expect, your catching the guy in front and just when you go to make the pass, he side swipes you, taking you out of the running. I know when i enter a race and tags are on show that if i do manage to make an overtake, the chances of being hit, on purpose are zero, because all in some form drive to similar set of values and are there to enjoy and compete in a race. I know that there are many untagged racers, like myself who will race clean, or try to, but i don't know that till they pass me or i pass them, whereas the tags i already know what to expect even if it's my first time with them.
As for spending time developing a quick tune, you cannot use the game to it's full potential if you just stick to choosing a car and racing on standard. How are you supposed to progress as a all round racer/gamer unless you take the time to practice, to race and even to set up a quick tune. There's garages in this forum where people take the time and do the hard work in setting up a quick tune for differing cars, you then have the option, use as is, or change maybe for the better, maybe not but your learning by trying.
Nerds, iI'm sure some people out there will think anyone who presses the power button on any game console is a nerd.

If stuck up and nerdy means tuning a car to the maximum potential and cleanly racing people online, then I guess I'm guilty as charged. I'm sorry for those Norweigens that I didn't punt them off last time in order to beat them, I'll remember to do so next time with an non-tuned car and all aids on, if it makes them feel better about it.

For some reason, this makes me think of Fox News...perhaps because of the rediculous criticsms.

The rule regarding grammar is one of my favourite things about this site! Text speak is a blight on the english language that should be shot down at any and every opportunity!

The rules regarding grammar have actually helped me a lot, I have become much better at typing well thought out sentences since I joined this site and have become much more competent when it comes to using commas.
