"I am socialising r-tard! I'm logged on to an MMORPG, with people from all over the world and getting XP with my party using teamspeak".

I need to stop quoting The Simpson's and South Park. :ouch:

Note: please read "sometimes someone parking..." not all, and always.

I park it in the Pits when I've messed up and hit someone.

I feel that bad about it that I don't feel that I can continue the race.

I retire from the race in some disgrace.

Yep, thanks Sphinx for representing the GT Planet community so well at the OPSC. I didn't read any beyond that (if there were replies) but if your excellent post doesn't educate these doubters, I don't know what will.

Sometimes, it's just not worth arguing with these kind of people.

One thing I do think is bad... running our own lower PP limit races within online events. I do think it is rude to ignore one or two guys at the start and wait 20 seconds. I think we should make-do with the PP restrictions provided and race with the public. Effectively ignoring the public on a public server is what is giving us this snobbish, elitist reputation with some outsiders. I know why we do it - because we don't have a means to have private races and because of punters. I must say, I really don't come across many punters any more (I only play Expert). I wonder if the lack of RBE has put them off...

I agree with you on this. I've been thinking about it too since I've met quite a bunch of fair non-tagged racers the last few months. We just have to deal with what PD offers us and wait with adjusting the PP until we have private rooms.

I'll get into it more...

You have a point there Obli, I sometimes felt guilty when I saw 2, 3 or 4 cars start the race and then see them almost stopping, confused about why everybody else just pulled to the side. Those guys wanted to race againsta a full grid, some of them were fine racers and I'm sure that as soon as they realize that from the 10 car grid where they were randomly placed, they'll only have 1 or 2 guys to race with (once, in the Evora cup, we were 11, so the other guy that was placed in that lobby was condemned to race alone) they got probably frustrated and mad at us.

But what can we (and they) do if PD doesn't allow private rooms and gave us only this random matching? How else can we have Mazda Mondays, Evora cups, Bond Events, etc. Do we give up on it? Do we wait for GT5 even if we still don't have a clue about when will it be released?

Tough call ...

EDIT: Obviously I'm a bit slow writer (in english) I didn't see Hugo Boss's post and mine became a bit redundant. However,it reflects what I think so I'll leave it as it is.

Didn't get to read Sphinx' post on OPSC, before the thread was closed.
Too bad since people are raving about it.

As for the nerd part - you have to have at least a bit of nerd in you to join a site like this - count me in.

Exactly. Count me in . 👍

And when it comes to Playing GT series yes

I think I am mostly a GT4 Drag Strip nerd . :sly:

Me too - I shall no longer be involved in events that require me to stop and seperate ourselves from the public (apart from any remaining Sixaxis Competition group races).

this thread was a shame.
in the german section we had also a discussion like that some weeks ago.
was like the same, all GTRP members was the bad guys.
what was really funny, the most flammers are racing in the beginner cups, daytona oval etc. :sly:

the ´Official PlayStation Community´ is only a big joke. :irked: there is no moderation, no news, nothing.
only the spanish section is interesting in the moment. 👍

+1

I agree. The biggest disappointment with the OPSC is the lack of news and moderation - hence the reason why I left and don't post there as often as I used to. It's now mostly just casual banter and no news or input from Sony or PD.

It's rubbish. And highly embarrassing.

But anyways, we're getting off topic!

:dunce:

Some people may not like this but we are like the Manchester United of the GT racing world. Love us or hate us we are one of the best out there and there are alot of jealous people.
That cebarus guy was talking out of his backside 99% of the time.
Aero and Auto Aki did well to put him straight.
Aki asked him numerous times to prove it or mention someones name from GTP and all he could say was do you think ime a liar.
I've played GT5 every single day since its release and never met him once.
It probably comes down to that he can not cut it with some of the drivers from GTP, GTRP and all the other respected forums.

I'd like to say that as a relative novice, my experience of GT5P has been nothing but enhanced by this forum.

Before getting prologue and experiencing online racing I thought I was pretty good. It didn't take long racing online with you guys for me to realise just how much there was to learn.

This forum makes learning new things a very easy and enjoyable thing to do. People's willingness to share experiences and knowledge is a great credit to the online community. Other forums I've been a part of have invariably descended into fractious bickering and bitching, but I don't see that here. I see a large group of people of all abilities united by a sense of fair play and competition, as well as an enjoyment of all things that the multi-cultural environment of the internet can offer.

I salute you all! 👍

Well worded response... couldnt have said it better! :) 👍

I've found that too - very few other games have an inherent respect for the newbie - they are locked out of the gameplay by more experienced people and aren't welcomed into the fold.

Gran Turismo isn't like that at all, however I hope we can all make the distinction between noob and rammer - the two are completely different species.

Does a noob who makes a mistake become a rammer? Or are they forgiven and allowed a second chance?

This is the essential question for GTP-ers and everyone should ask themselves. And this I think is the essence of the question "Are GTP-ers stuck up?"

Do GTP-ers like racing with noobs?

Good point. I have a theory about rammers an newbies.
If you have close race with someone, and finally manage to pass him, if he then blasts you off the track, then he's a rammer. Or if they swerve from side to side to block, then again a rammer. Someone who seems to not have full control while you're behind/in front of/side by side with them, and they hit you somewhere or somehow that makes little sence, they I usually asume he's just a newbie...

I guess you could classify a rammer as someone who will blast you off the track and doesnt wait.... If I make a mistake and knock someone off or overlook a turn and blast someone of the track I wait... GTPer or non-tagged... I dont want my mistake to ruin theyre race so I give them theyre place back... and this is also in line with OLR rules of this site.

You wait because you are a member of GTP and you understand the ettiquette of OLR.

But what if you had just joined the online fracas and had no idea that it was considered gentlemanly to wait? What if you accidentally bumped a GTP-er because you weren't used to OLR or didn't understand the code of ethics?

Are you then considered a noob or a rammer by the GTP-er who you bumped?

This is a very hard question to answer... what did I get myself into.. lol :dopey:

Does that mean that I could blast someone off the track deliberately, wait and then be forgiven? :)

Don't answer that! I think we take the game too seriously at times!

If it looks deliberate he's a rammer, if not, I give the benefit of the doubt and consider it a noob "racing incident".

If he insists on getting into "incidents", he's also rammer.

HAhahaaH yeah but thats what make it fun.. :D In the end rammers and noobs will always be there... so I guess we just have to deal with them as they come... 👍

We where all "NOOBS" once. I personaly hate the saying. And I feel that anybody who calls someone a noob is just showing there lack of respect. They are begginers.

I voted "perhaps a little".

I mean, yeah, i'm a car-nerd 100%..i dont think i'm stuck-up, tho. Well, maybe i come across that way to some folks.. :guilty: I talk to anybody who shows up here at GTP tho...any new member other people seem to ignore.

Look, we use a forum to play a stupid game. If you like it or not, that's nerdy. Ask any of your friends that don't have a ps3 if they think you're a nerd and I guarantee they will call you a nerd. Having said that, it's fun being a nerd.

With regards to punters. When on track I find it's very obvious who is there for a good clean race. Question is, do you take revenge? I have to admit, (on the odd occasion where I am constantly being rammed after catching up again - never a tagged racer might I add) I find it all too hard not to give them a taste of their own medicine. Am I a bad person?
