If you don't like the rules, leave? Doesn't bother us, & it's one less group of posts we don't have to read. Win-Win....Well, for us, anyways.

Couldnt have said it any better....

Don't the people rebelling against proper grammar understand that they agreed to the AUP when they signed up here? Its like youre signing a contract... Same principle. So if you agree to the AUP that means you agree to follow the rules and abide by them, there's no arguing about that. Its just how it is, period. It also works like this in RL and society as well. If you agree to something which is outlined on paper and sign or give your consent, then its your responsibility to follow that or suffer consequences.

Now if you don't like the rules, then just continue to break them. Then you can see what is acheived by acting the way you all are, right now.

...It is a contract, but you do realise,if it were legally binding, unless it states otherwise, the rules apply to all parties, irrespective of the duration they've been on the forum. So,to aprehend one person, mods will need to apprehend everyone that contravenes that law on this forum. So,if its grammar,It would extend to everyone and include all gramatical errors. So people from Non english countries,as there is no way to determine who is from what country,if you break grammar laws of the (holy) english language, your I.P will be tracked and you will be given an english course in the pits of Siberia when you are captured.

The rules do apply to everyone regardless of how long they have been a member, are you implying they don't? Have you got examples of this?

As per the below post from a site admin quoted from the previous page of this thread allowances are made for non-native English speakers and the mods can determine which country they are from by their IP address. The bottom line is that everyone agreed to the AUP, which has been set by the site owner, when they signed up . If you don't like it then don't come here and if anyone repeatedly breaks the AUP they will eventually be banned. It's not a hard concept to grasp.

Do other languages not use capital letters and punctuation?

1) We set the standards high so that we don't become another brain-dead idiot vortex.

2) Allowance is made for non-native English speakers. As noted above, many of the people here who speak English as a second or third language actually make much clearer and more readable posts than many of the native speakers.

3) Ignorance of the language is an entirely separate issue from being lazy and sloppy. Posting in txt spk is the latter, not the former.

4) It's in the rules to which you agreed when you started posting here.

No joke.

I knew it would be too hard for you to understand.... I quit....

LOL aaah please. You know,it isnt the first time Ive seen forum posters get 'picked' on.I guess it must be one of those 'Some are born more free than others' moments. I have to laugh it off, anyone can be a bigshot behind the pc screen lol. Also, yes, there have been instances where Ive wondered why mods havnt stopped some of you,but hey,in the end,I wont name names,or say who was attacked, but it is funny because karma is a bitch and Im sure it'll be repayed 10X. The worst is how rude some of you can be,dont you see,you can even limit traffic to this site with your rude behavior. I still dont believe the fact that you dont realize how lame it is to critique peoples language.I think its some frustration you're suffering from,it must be more personal than the wait for a GT5 release date..

Rules are rules I agree. But you can't compare a forum to real life contracts. Not even equal. Banning someone because of grammar, spelling or punctuation especially when its readable, is a little low if you ask me. It seems as though you guys that have 1k+ post are all uptight about this. That baffles me. How about you guys become Moderators and clean up small things as such as grammar, just a suggestion. If someone can't type clear English, you complain. If someone doesn't us caps properly, you complain. Run-ons, fragments, typos, etc. That is very discouraging to a newcomer to come aboard and get flamed for mild infractions. Gessh, having to worry about minor stuff like this when typing takes the fun out of posting if we have to worry about getting hassled.

Well,Its not everyone with plus 1K posts,offcourse.but yes.I agree with you.+1

Capitalise is correct too.

I stand corrected. My apologies. Goes to show different parts of the world can have minor spelling differences in which others may not be aware of. Another example is tyre. I was like what the heck. In the U.S. it's tire. As long as most can understand, we can overlook grammar which in my opinion tolerable.

I think we're getting a bit off-topic now, but I don't think it is too much to ask that people use good english. Certainly, basic things such as capitalising sentences, and proper spacing, should be observed where it is reasonable to do so.

People seem to be getting a bit carried away with this incident. Duke gave a friendly reminder about using good standards of english amongst some good advice (that I question would have been given without said reminder as an excuse to post, Duke? :) ).

Was it a bit "tight"? It's a grey-area, and probably a matter of interpretation. But, it was not a direct or immediate threat, so let's all calm down. If kitchenboy3 wasn't aware or well-versed in the (admittedly, often barmy) rules of our language, then he'll be one step closer now. In this case specifically, kitchenboy3 is aware of the need to use capitals correctly when typing in english. In your case, KillzoneStrife, the consistent lack of proper spacing actually makes it harder to read your posts for myself, a native-speaker, and more so for those who are learning the language. For newcomers to our language, it is easy enough to be tripped-up by good english, never mind the badly-typed mess of letters and symbols that litter most forums (although I appreciate that this may be a limitation of your phone)!

One of the points of pride in being a member of GTPlanet is that, wherever you go (minus the news section!) and whoever you are, you can expect a clear dialogue, intelligent responses and a general maturity that I hardly see anywhere else. I also believe that, generally, the AUP is not unreasonable, and that having perfectly attainable standards of English is a rule that the mods are welcome to make and enforce.

Maybe I'm just repeating what has been said by other members; but the harsh reality is that you don't have to like it, and you don't have to join. There are plenty of forums that discuss Gran Turismo who don't have the same standards and you are, of course, welcome to post there and use whatever grammar their AUP deems acceptable as much as you like!

Lastly, I believe that the issues of approachability is also a matter of interpretation, and in my opinion, overstated in Flight50's post (previous points notwithstanding); kitchenboy3 wasn't exactly 'flamed' by Duke, was he?

Phew!

^ 👍 Good point well made Danisfast, I couldn't have put it better myself...in fact I didn't!

Sent from my phone ;)

December 7th has been mentioned as a possible date, but as each day goes by, I find it hard to believe.

Surely the Schick and Subway promotions and the article(s) in Top Gear were meant to coincide with the release date, and presumably couldn't be delayed for whatever reason.

However....

What worries me about the Dec. 7th date is the lack of advertising. If "Black Friday" was a target, I'd assume we'd hear something between now and next Wednesday (Nov. 10th), quickly followed by tons of marketing (including commercials). Yes, it's been shown in the background of a few Playstation commercials, but this is a franchise game. This game sells consoles.

If it's that close, where's the big push?

Speaking of promotions, did anyone on here earn an advanced copy from the Subway promotion. I wouldn't know because my area stores weren't participating.

Are the demo kiosks still up and running, and is anyone confirming them?

The silence fuels my inner rage, much like coke to Charlie Sheen.

Please, PD... gimmie a fix....

I'm pretty sure there are members who won the subway early GT5 promotion so hopefully they'll be able to share some juicy info when they get it early.

Good point although as long it's not late getting it free would be pretty cool.

Oh Dear, seems I have caused a fair amount of ruction with my post, I DO humbly apologise, I do pride myself on a fairly good command of the english language, which, by the way, is not my first language.
So, dear Duke, please accept my sincere and heartfelt apologie on seemingly causing you great distress with my sloppy punctuation and lack of capitalisation.
I shall endeavor to do better in future.

I would like to thank those of you who came to my defence during the intense and outraged debate regarding my lack of respect toward the english language.
To those, I think it was 2 people, who actually bothered commenting on the content of my post, I would like to say that my 'rant' was borne out of frustration, I believe the fact that I have ordered the Signature Edition shows me to be a GT fan. I don't believe that my post was any worse than some others I have read here and am somewhat perplexed at the ferocity of your attacks.
Duke, as much as I appreciate your commitment to the rules, I am also puzzled by your select criteria as to who shall be censored, case in point is your 'reminder' to use punctuation etc., while others who engage in personal attacks (not just against me) are let off scotfree.
Please enlighten me.

maybe its the spellingpolice? :)

personally, when i read stuff on a forum ect. i dont care at all about peoples grammar or anything, as long as the post is understandable OR the person who writes the post is willing to clarify any ... weird words or whatever.

thats just me. That being said, its of course a lot easier and nicer to read a well punctuated and correctly spelled post.

I'm not english myself, but i wish i was. :)

anyways.. i read the main post of this and then the last page.. and now i forgot what this thread is all about.. so... heres a youtube link instead

I just read the post you are talking about and I must say that you need to grow up. Its just a game and there is no need in getting so wound up because of the game getting delayed again.

I know the delay is ridiculous but don't get mad. Just play other sim games: F12010, Supercar Challange, and of course Prologue for PS3. GTR2, Rfactor for PC, if you have a decent computer you can buy them for cheap and enjoy the simulation! Having a good sim to drive really help the waiting for GT5 Imho.

As HKS racer said above, the delay is ridiculous. But, we will get the game soon enough, and hopefully in time for Black Friday:)

Why would you want the game anywhere near Black Friday? All you would do is fight the idiots at the malls and big boxes to get your copy of the game. Not to mention you run the risk of your preorder being sold and then you're out of luck.

I think I could deal with a little mall traffic if it meant I'd get to pick up GT5 in 3 weeks.

If by the end of next week we get no release date, then I concede to the fact that march 2011 is our next target for release, which would suck because it would miss my birthday.

A release date during the week of Black Friday means only US buyers have to deal with the mass hysteria. I know it's just another day here; a few stores do sales, but Boxing Day is a bigger event. So that's one country that would have to deal with a rush if Sony sticks to a worldwide release during the same week. Meh.
