BMW Team Scotland Enters The Fray

The BTCS series has gained another strong entrant as BMW Team Scotland showed off it's 320si to the media at the Knockhill circuit in Scotland. Driver Gary Slater said, "We've seen BMW's potential in touring cars before so we feel our 2 E90s can provide a strong challenge to a formidable field." The team was only able to show the #10 of Slater as the #11 machine of his team-mate Ryan Stewart was still on a ferry from Germany.

After the media briefing, Slater took the car out onto the famed Scottish circuit to participate in a filming run before conducting a shakedown test.

Out of curiosity, how are cars/teams/drivers differentiated in terms of performance?

Not quite sure I get what you mean, but I can tell you that the drivers' talent files (their use should be obvious) are identical bar the name that's attached to them. There are still variables, but this is as close as I can get.

I will do some testing to hopefully fix the biggest and most obvious balancing issues between cars. Like I said, though, neither AI nor myself is perfect when it comes to spec testing, which is where, hopefully, the success ballast should kick in and keep things as exciting as possible. It should stop anyone from running away with win after win (I'm looking at you, BMW army) yet still be relatively fair.

Ah ok. Fair enough.

...well, I think I'll join this. Touring car racing is my jam, and I feel this is one jam I should be a part of. As long as fun is the only gimmick needed here, I'm game. The technical shannenigans are a must in a morten-run series, so I won't mind those as they're part of the "contract"...

One question, though; going by @AudiMan2011's Beemer, can I assume there is a windshield banner template for these things? Or the answer to that is a "no"? I'd say having one unified banner would make the field look 25% more professional and 5% less OCD-bothering...

Glad you've joined us, there should be more fun than you can shake a stick at.

As for the banner, nope. Done by hand.

Naw, that's just BK being masterclass painter as usual.

I guess that's the old gang pretty much back together then!

I get what you're saying, but eh. It's a tiny thing. Whether people have fun painting their windshield in weird and wacky colors or go with something sensible doesn't really bother me. If anything it fits the "anything-can-happen" label I put on everything I do.

Somehow I'm getting conflicted messages here... Maybe it's just because it's late from where I'm writing, chalk it up to lateness and such.

If I get this right; there is a banner thing, but it was BK's mad skillz that made it and it's not quite mass-produced yet? I'd like to request those mad skillz if possible, so that I don't design a rotten French cheese-level banner...

And speaking of French (the segueway!), that's what my entry is for. As a member of a family who owned three real-life Peugeots, it'd only be fair to defend the honor of the Lion. However, unlike last time I ran a Pug in a morten-powered series, it won't be through Henrietta. She's been retired to the Peugeot museum (OOC: I actually deleted the livery, oops), so someone else will fill her shoes.

But don't fear, a girl will still be the driving force of this effort...

You're waaay to kind.

Again, waaay to much credit. AudiMan decided he wanted the GTP banner, so I obliged. Nothing too hard, just a little tedium to get it right, my inability to grasp the deformation tools hindering it a bit.

If you want one, I'd be happy to make one for the 407.

And I doubt a French-cheese banner would outdo my French-cheese of a livery:

If you could, I'd be grateful. Also, I may or may not need some help with saving the window files, it's been a long while since I did it, and I obviously can't find the "how to not save like a goof" files in my subconscious. If it's not asking much, could you lend a hand?

That ain't no French cheese, son. That's more like a... Italian hot tamale from Brazil.

did i just say that out loud?

First thing I do with the window files is 'Save As', select the file of the livery it'll apply to, then add 'Glass' to the end of that. Puts both files next to each other.

Yes...yes you did.

No, I mean the whole "DXT5" and bitmaps thingies the "file info" note on the livery's files. I try to save them in the formats required, but I can't set the number of bitmaps somehow... Guess I need a re-lesson on how to save files to .dds formats. It's a good thing I already made the basic intangibles for the windows, so that the only thing I have to worry about is saving them properly...

Yes...yes you did.

Well then, I think we have a nickname in our hands. I shall dub your Pug the "Hot Tamale feat. ITA". Golden mine, I'm tellin' ya! :sly:

.....I have no idea what any of that is or means.

As for what I do know, here's something for ya, and others can modify if they'd like to. Here's three pngs for the GTP banner text and logos, they're positioned to be easy insert layers so you can make the banner itself whatever color you'd like then plop one of these down.

Morten probably does understand, since I believe I've discussed the DXT thing with him before. I apologize for not being able to explain it better, but "pro painter" is not a class I spent EXP poiints on yet... :dunce:

Inexperience aside, thank you for the banner! 👍 These bad boys are going straight into my windows, so I can finalize then and then move on to the car itself. Maybe with some luck, I'll figure out how to save them as .dds files by that time...

But RACECAR does have some reasoning in talking about your "masterclass painter" skillz, I can say that much. A helpful painter, no less. ;)

*sigh* Do I really need to revive a dead meme and make a tutorial on this?

Nah, it can be explained. What are you using to create your livery?

Well you're the top specialist in dead memes in these grounds, so yes. You can't defile your status!

Nah, I'm kidding. As for what I'm using, good ol' GIMP. because I'm a cheap lazy pimp who doesn't get off the high horse and just download Photoshop instead

And another quick question; how do I get my car's side number layers above those pesky black bars that run across the doors? I have added the number, but the bars cover them instead of staying behind the number. I see BK and Audi got around that problem, but so far I can't... (plus it doesn't help that I want to use a black car, because I love making life harder for myself )

Can't say I'm all that familiar with GIMP myself. It doesn't matter too much for the body, and if you can send the windows back in the same file format they came in, I should be able to take it from there.

As for the black lines, they're supposed to be part of the trim. Don't ask me why the templates weren't done differently, but you'll need to mess about with the shading layer.

Fair enough, I'll send them as-is. Hopefully that doesn't pose too many problems, but at least the windows have all they need (thanks to Glover).

Also, I hope that by saying "mess about with the shading" means just turning it off, because I don't think I can anything more complex than that, haha. But I'll try to figure that one out, thanks for clarifying.

if the trim is a part of the car model (above the texture), that won't help

Tsuchigami no Mugen Confirms Driver Change

In initial team entry submission documents, Flora Earthlight was believed to have been signed for a full-season contract to compete in the B-Spec Touring Championship series. Although she was very honored to have been selected for such a position, the upcoming touring car racer and future heir to the Spherian throne has confirmed that she will not be racing.

Rather than go the usual route of scouting out potential full-time drivers or pull a reserve from their rookie ranks, the Honda-backed team used their technical partnership with Hourai Automation to 'hire' and field test a prototype "humanoid servant robot" codenamed Shanghai. Shanghai is currently undergoing development to allow 'her' to operate automobiles with similar levels of proficiency to that of a human's. Her 'mothers and fathers' at Hourai believe that entering Shanghai into BTCS will be the best way to "train" her situational awareness in a hostile, but non-combative environment.

[Note: In entry documents and on in-game name displays, the new driver should show up as "Shanghai Houraisan"]

@rallymorten ,@Niku Driver HC ,

Those black bars are where the trim pieces go. Off the top of my head, I know that the 407 side trim is above and below the main body, respective to that side. It'll look like a strip that doesn't mean anything, but it does. The E90...I'll have to look again.

by the way, are there going to be any possibilities to submit a setup etc

Sadly, there won't be any tuning at all. This time around, at least.

Given the current situation, I figured I'd save myself and everyone else the time it'd take to get a reasonable setup system working. It might not be as involving as some of the others series' around, but right now I'm just trying to get back "in".

Planet Express Racing Blasts Off Into BTCS
A surprise entry into the BTCS was announced in New New York today, as Professor Hubert Farnsworth announced Planet Express would be entering a two car effort in the series. The cars were unveiled in front of Planet Express HQ to a crowd of confused onlookers.

Both cars feature primary sponsorship from Planet Express, with Slurm, Pabst Blue Robot and Bachelor Chow also stepping up to support the team.

The #26 of Phillip Fry can be distinguished by the Slurm logo on the hood, and the darker teal window stripes. The #27 of Leela Tortuga carries a Planet Express logo on the hood and lighter teal window stripes.
