Body modding, custom tuning and GT5...

Not all standards have 'hubcaps'. Some of the wheels on the standard cars look just fine. I wonder if there is more to 'unlock' later as you progress through the levels (like NFS: Shift). In that video that was posted of the wheels, we probably didn't see but half of them. There's gotta be a bunch of them. I'm optimistic with the different types of wheels. I wonder though, is it possible to just paint the face of the wheel, or the lip? That'd be great! Keep the black face and paint the lip a red to match with the car...

Okay, was I the only one who felt as though PD had missed a chance to give an awful lot of street racing games a good hammering?

Take a look at GT4... we got NOS (a la NFS) but no licensed company supplying it, and only one type... was it wet shot, dry shot... it doesn't tell you..!

We got tuner cars, but... pre tuned bodies. hardly any customising in the tuner village (new suspension and turbo, whoo-hoo) and you can't give them a custom paintjob either (pearlescent paint, anyone?)

We got licensed rims, but and wings you can add on, but, they're not licensed... and it's hardly a breathtaking variation in styles, is it. And a choice of 3 colours. Gee, thanks, as I strap a BLACK wing onto my BLUE car... yeuch!

You can tune up the power of the car to outragious numbers, but your car still looks lik a family runabout?! I mean that's nice if you WANT it to... but c'mon, wouldn't you love to body body something in the game?!

Imagine being able to do that to ANY car in the game! Licensed tuners who tune your cars power like no other tuner does. Actual decals on your car when you choose them as a tuner! Taking your beat up used car, and playing with wings, grills, lights, neons, darkened glass, paint, custom paintjobs, custom tuning and NOS, until your ride frightens the AI into crashing at every corner!

Imagine street racing cars with GT5 PS3 graphics... designed by YOU.

Now... who wouldn't want that? And if you don't... you could play the game without too... just as you do now... *wry grin*

Later - FTB.

are you serious? that would just make it like all the other game. i agree that custom paint would be cool and maybe some different settings for wings like hight and downforce that you can see. maybe do like nfs pro street and adjust everything in a wind tunnel. or even an option to take the wing off completly if youre just doing it for cosmetic reasons. and it WOULD be kind of nice to put sponsors on your car, ONLY if you have those parts installed. but as far as body kits go i would say no. and maybe like custome exhaust. idk if you will be able to see your upgraded exhaust but it would be nice. it would also be nice to cut the exhaust off completely or maybe angle it.

I had a habit of putting the same wheels on all my cars, and tried to keep them all the same colour if possible as well.

And you think they can do all that overnight? Or that it's so easy they haven't done it so far cause they're lazy? At this point, I think they need to concentrate on GT6.

I never said it had to be done over night. I meant as in a DLC release or something similar.

Most of us want alivery editor for the simplest reason, maybe more R tunes for standard cars like GT2...

to make things like this.

No anime porn, no animal genitals or cuss words, just pure simple Personalized liveries, thats one reason im jealous of PC racers, is the customization is nearly limitless, of course thers always a limit to good taste.

Don't know if this has been cleared up, but I was playing the game last night and I was able to add a body kit to the front of my old RX-7 (premium)

Also, I bought a used Lotus, an old used one, that had an interesting red colour too it that Ive never seen...and I collected the "paint chip" colour...and I can paint any car that colour...but can only use it once, so I could save it for when I get an enzo...for example...or wait until i get a metallic colour and paint the enzo with it and so on...so ALOT of possibilities...

very exciting!!

It seems that you have the game, can you look up any info about the toyota sipra mikv in the game? =)

To me, this simply means that you can't change/swap your rims/wheels to another set e.g. a set that you already have. What you can do is buy a new set of rims. I guess, for Standard, you have to buy new rims always. But for Premium, you can keep some and change/install them whenever you feel like it. But then again, I'm not sure. =P It would definitely be a downer, though, if you can't buy new rims for Standard. That'd be like uncool. Hey, you can buy new rims in GT4, why not in GT5? :D

There's already a video and a GIF showing a standard car and you can't change the wheels at all on a standard car.

Is it a new bumper or just a generic front splitter added? Did you also have to unlock it?

So you would have to buy multiple cars with the same color in order to use the color multiple times? Or does the color return to 1 owned after you take it off another car?
Sounds dumb.

No, it means what it says. Standard cars can't change wheels as it's been proven numerous time.

Does anyone know if you can change size and width of wheels, as well as changing tire pressure? Your wheels and tires are pretty important in a racing sim. I dont care about the standards, yeah it sucks the MKIV Supra is a standard but theres enough premiums to entertain me. Some cars have terribly narrow wheels stock, and I like to tune my pressure for my current needs. Thoughts?

My thought is that it will be very puzzling if it's not possible.

So how would you paint another car the same color? That's gonna suck if you only get to use the color one time (until you find it again). I know that GT (at least in the past) has been quite heavy on the grinding, but having to find another "paint chip" in the same color in order to use it on another car just seems unnecessarily tedious.

You can use it all the time however you have to pay for the paint every time you use it. thats what I got from the videos just my opinion.

*sigh*

I'm one of those people that wanted a significant amount of customization options. I think many people here, including the OP, have missed the fact that there's more to tuning and customizing than ricing up a JDM! What about classic hot rodding, what about european style modding, what about more tasteful stuff like that? Cosmetically, there's more to it than throwing a tacky body kit on your 240SX. To go the whole nine yards, GT would have to offer just about any option under the sun, everything from different bumpers for older cars, options to flare fenders, and perhaps to relocate body accessories (for example: removing or relocating side view mirrors or radio antennas, tiny little things like that). At least then some of us can fix the awful mirror-on-front-wing thingy the older japanese cars have: some of us hate that!

The point being, if GT lets us modify our cars performance wise in a near-limitless manner, it should allow for a near limitless amount of cosmetic alterations as well. Some of us want to change the appearence of our cars exactly to our tastes, and don't say we'd never see those changes because you know that's not true.

EVERYBODY should get what they want. GT6, 7, 8 anyone?

Edit: I forgot to mention the most important inclusion for tuning options: engine swaps! Let's get serious...

I think a lot more customization would be great, although I still love the GT series anyway and understand why they don't do it. Had they put the customization options we all want in there it wouldn't come out til hell froze over. However, I would love it if they could release updates to existing cars in the game as downloads, like slowly shifting all the standard cars to premium. And the differences aren't always ricer just because they're cosmetic. I own a 1999 Z-28 Camaro, and changing the hood out has an affect, putting an SLP Ram Air hood adds about 10hp, and so would changing the rims to brand name lighter ones like Fikse. And the difference between wet/dry, and how much power is in the shot would be nice for NOS. I can tell you right now putting a 50 shot versus putting a 200 shot in my car would make a huge difference, something that isn't really realized in GT. Also, brand name auto parts would be great, cause the difference between an STS rear-mount turbo and a Garrett turbo is more than anyone would ever realize, and the same goes for a Vortech vs. a Whipple supercharger, and things like heads/cams etc. Brand name's make differences. It's not ricer logic, it's fact. But regardless, I love GT, and understand that it'd cost a lotttttt of money, and a lot more time to do all of this.

I agree with the above.

The main thing I want is for them to get realistic with wheel selection. Have it so you can change the width and the offset and see it changing on your car as you preview it. You shouldn't be able to fit wider tyres unless you fit wider rims, and I guess you should be able to choose to stretch tyres a bit for drift and show. Cars should have a limit to the width/offset you can fit and if you want more grip from wider tyres you need to add a wide body kit or flares.

The way they have it now(at least it was in GT4 and I don't see them changing it now as it would suck for standards) is you change the tyres to race tyres and that's it... magical maximum grip on standard wheels. You should have to choose your wheel specs carefully so that they are light, big enough to clear bigger brakes but not so big as to effect tyre performance/longevity, wide enough to fit good tyres, and have a proper offset to give you wider track.

Then you could still have show wheels which are heavier and bigger, but you wouldn't want to race with them, just for photo mode.

To me this is one of the best things about modding a car.

I didn't get that JDM, I'll have to dig up the video, but I believe it said something about losing a chip if you used it.

If that's the case, it's an odd way to artificially lengthen the game, for those who do want to paint there cars, anyways. A simple "unlock a colour" thing would've worked well and not required me to, say, keep rebuying a certain Subaru just to keep my stock of WR Blue up ;).

Exactly. I was in denial for a while. :)

You see, I like my cars clean but I also like to customize them a bit. Clean paint and interior, some performance mods and rims... that's it.

:dunce:

I just have to 👍 this. Couldn't agree more. Well said, sir, well said.

Well, I must've missed it before, but after seeing it in a Youtube video, I noticed it:
When you're painting a car in GTAuto, the paint item will disappear. The game states so itself. So, does that mean that I have to buy dozens of cars just to paint others in a color I like?
I mean, ftw? GT5 is going to be more of a grind than World of Warcraft ever was, if that's the case...

I do hope that there's a race like the Rally di Positano (or whatever it was called) in GT4, where you can win a car that sells for an easy 200,000 credits in a rough ten minutes...

Just ridiculous. PD can't even seem to get a paint shop right.

You also can't install CF hoods on standard cars from what I saw. It might just be the unpainted CF hood.

Forza 3 completely destroys GT5 in the customisation stakes, it's almost not even a contest.

I'm very disappointed with the customisation options on offer. I didn't really care about them much back in the old days of GT1/2/3/4, but after playing Forza 2 and 3, I've seen just how much more it adds to the game.

I want to customise my cars, I want to paint them and change their wheels, I want to change the size of the wheels and slap a bodykit on, I want to create a racing livery to use online and I certainly wouldn't mind engine swaps either.

The customisation features GT5 offers are that of a demo, extremely limited with some features locked/unavailable. That is not how it should be after how long this game took to make.

It's pretty much just like it was in GT4, just a new interface and a few things taken out of STAGES and available separately.

What’s going on people as you know some people already have Grand Turismo 5. I wished I had my copy but I got to wait until Wednesday morning like some of you as well. The last thing I’ll have for you on this are these stills I took from the Opening Movie. You’ll see a Lexus IS F with a DTM Body; it may be the 08 Racing Concepts. The one thing I really wanted to point out is the flipped Acura NSX; you’ll see a racing wing and molding. The key thing to the molding on the car is the wheel well flaring. You’ll have to pay close attention to notice it. Another area is on the Vett, you'll notice the two tone color Yellow and White. ( Which has nothing to do with this thread just wanted to point it out). Take a look at the Red Benz and tell me what you see. So instead of giving spoils I gave you this, you’ll have to wait to play the game to see what you’ve got. ( I got to wait too)

The lexus is the one kaz drove during 24hrs at Nurb.
The vette is all yellow. The side is washed out from the light.
The benz looks like it might have a CF hood but it could be shadows, and a front lip spoiler. The wing is your typical GT wing. I think the benz displays the extent of GT5 super evolved customization.
